    And you delivered,

I am big enough to admit when I am wrong and on TSW3 I was completely wrong.

Really enjoying the lighting on all three routes, but so far Kassel Run is my favourite run. The lighting at dusk blew my mind away, it looked absolutely amazing.

I was very concerned with the performance, but out side of the Training Centre its running as well if not better then TSW2.

    Few minor points

Question about dynamic weather - admittedly Ive only done 4 services but these have all been started in journey mode and Im yet to see any change in weather conditions throughout. Is dynamic weather not available in journey mode, or have I just been unlucky?

Is anyone else hearing a fireman shovelling coal in the ES44C4 or is it just my imagination? Its not all the time just occassionally but its definately the sound of something grating, bit off putting.

RD support for the ICE1 - the afb seems to be impossible to set at the speed limit and seems to jump about 7-9 Km per movement.

Loco tutorials - Please bring back the part where we are shown how to recover a loco from emergency brake.

Journey Mode - Whilst in principle I like the way you need to complete previous chapters in order to unlock the next one, I am concerned if a service/scenario is bugged and is impossible to complete then it makes progressing through the remainder impossible.

Also happen to me when I'm doing Cajon Pass journey mode. The weather & date selection just simply locked.

Journeys in TSW2 always had preset weather as opposed to the generic services, so maybe that was carried over to TSW3. Just a guess.

    Glad you're enjoying it, redrev1917.

To answer your question, dynamic weather currently isn't in Journey Mode, but it may be something we add in future.

Could the shoveling sound be flange squeal? I haven't heard anything besides the traction motor sounds based on how much I've played

Just done a quick run on SEHS from St Pancras to Ashford.

Generally looking good though I may have to tweak performance a bit for my old potato. Getting a fair few micro pauses, possibly tiles or data loading, though this was an issue on TSW2 in BML or any line where you are running fast.

Lighting - well I have to concur a little on the bright side, needs a contrast or brightness adjustment feature. However I will reserve judgement until seeing how nights look as those being too dark was a major gripe in TSW2. False portal pop up in tunnels is a bit anooying and I note the enhanced headlights only seem to work well in the lighter concrete tunnels rather than the dark ones.

Anyhow looking good so far, much more to explore.

Agreed. I’ve just had an extremely dicey descent into San Bernardino thanks to a thunderstorm that appeared halfway through the climb. The lack of save function may have also contributed to the squeaky bum time… ;)

I’d echo what’s been said here - very enjoyable and promising so far. A few issues identified, but overall I think DTG can be pleased with their work.

    I agree! TSW3 is lovely :D
I love Kassel-Würzburg a lot, really nice; especially (as you said) the dusk runs!
Personally, I don’t buy US routes and don’t drive them. I have CSX and Cajon Pass now; and Wow, Cajon pass looks lovely! I won’t play it very often I guess, but it looked (in my opinion) better than every other route so far when it comes to clear sun :D
Haven’t really tried SEHS, as british trains are my least favourites; but I’ll definitely take a look, even if I will only take a passenger ride!
Cheers to DTG, this has been way better than I could habe imagined!

And to give a tip: A few people had problems with the ICE 1: When you get an emergency brake (either Pzb or Sifa) you can’t continue your journey. In that case, press the small black button on the right on the desk. It says “HL füllen”. It results in the braking pipes filling up again. After that, you are ready to go!

DTG JD Then it should be removed from the screen when starting a timetable service in journeys. Because there it shows that dynamic weather is enabled.

Cajon is very nice. Had to do a 40 or so minute run from Victorville to Barstow due to the save situation, but chose dusk and yes it is sublime.

Other feedback: GEVO horn seems a bit weedy, sounds like there's a bird stuck in it.
Night still seems to be quite dark not too much from the loco headlight, expected more forward illumination.

But otherwise fairly impressed, but Matt and JD we do need that Save Game ASAP.

Oh couple of other things to mention - not seen any change in the weather yet and definitely enabled.
My earlier run on SEHS, at Ashford the old problem of getting dropped onto a lower speed limit without warning is still there. Next limit shows as 60 km/h but almost immediately you get a 40.

I can confirm the dynamic weather is working. Depending on which route you choose, it might stay sunny on Cajon because it’s very sunny there irl; but for SKW: On my seven runs I had so far, 4 the weather changed four times :D

So can you have an entire run where it stays rainy or stays sunny only etc, so it doesn't actually rain/thunder etc?

Yes, I'm impressed with Cajon overall, but, for me, the things that let it down are those anemic headlights and the " model railway " track and ballast.

The lack of change in the dynamic weather is actually a good thing, especially in that area at this time of year, when there is very little rainfall, if any. Some folks are saying that the weather is deteriorating in the game more often than it should normally.

And, yes, let's keep blowing our collective horns about the save game.

When picking a service to run change dynamic weather to custom and pick what you want. I'm not sure if dynamic weather's on by default in quick play mode though? Maybe DTG JD could confirm that as well? It would be nice if dynamic weather was present in journey mode though

All in all though, I agree with the positive feedback. Some issues to iron out, but the lighting I think is great and adds a whole new level of graphical nicety to the game without much else changing much in terms of the maps and trains. The new training sections in the training centre are great at explaining what you're doing, but more importantly, why, something that was always missing from TSW 2020 & TSW 2, asides from the ES44C4 Engine Run being switched off in the tutorial and you not being directed to turn it on first, everything is great there.

Of course the main event will come on Tuesday when we can start to see how our old favourites from TSW1 and 2 look and run in the refreshed game engine.

I know they get the dynamic weather, but wouldn't that mean that they also get the new skybox? Can you have one without the other?

From what I remember from the streams was yes TSW3 routes will have dynamic weather but with the 2D sky. The jury is out on how this will look especially the transitions

Yep, I've got to say, this has been the smoothest upgrade - and I think this "pre-release" thing was a very cunning plan - sort of like a final beta test - the keenest players would get it first, report any final issues that could be fixed before releasing to the masses. TBH I wasn't going to get the full package, having already bought SEHS and more interested in fast passenger rather than slow freight I was going to wait until release and just buy the German version - but given all the "hype" (meant in a positive way!) I was swept along and bought it Friday evening! I have had a most enjoyable weekend playing TSW3. Thanks team DTG.

This was my first thought as well the first time I heard it. I been hearing it quite a bit since then, and yes, it's definitely a little off putting. Not a game breaker by any means, but if removed, I wouldn't miss it. It sounds like something that should not be there.

Then the no dynamic weather in journey mode? I thought this was a bad joke the first time I read it. They been tooting the horn about this particular feature as one of the major upgrades for TSW3, then it's not even implemented in what for me at least is the main part of the game. I mean, come on, journey mode in itself is kind of a pretty darn huge part of the overall gameplay, yeah?

Part of the idea behind Journey mode is to force you to drive in preset weather whether you want to or not.

I see what you are saying. You got a point there. Too bad, though. Journey mode is what I mainly drive, and I was looking forward to some dynamic weathers going on. Hopefully they will add it in the future. Game looks gorgeous as it is. I'll still have a great time with it.

My understanding of Journey Mode is that it's kind of an "Editor's Pick" of the best scenarios and a cross section of typical timetable runs. Some routes like Boston Sprinter seem to have it stuck in one season, in that case winter.

First run on the German High Speed route, Fulda to Kassel.
Pros - I love the BR401, has great sound, you can open the windows and doesn't accelerate like a bat out of hell.
Cons - Still seems very dark even in the towns and not much forward illumination. Also for this route, PZB/LZB should really be on default.

The dynamic weather kicked in, or rather I had 2 minutes of clear weather with the rest of the run in a thunderstorm. Sorry to say but the lightning effects are way OTT. It's like having a Van Der Graaf generator in front of your train, or something out of a horror movie. I had lightning bolts hitting the track dead in front of my train and striking the platform at Kassel. This is just unrealistic and needs toning right down. Anywhere with buildings lightning is going to go to ground at a high point and if it hit the track would probably knock out all the signalling! Also I highly doubt the same storm would be overhead for nearly 80km. Most thunderstorms are fairly localised in my experience and don’t even occur that often.

Edit: One other thing to add. This route really serves to illustrate why we need some sort of tunnel and bridge reverb. It’s just a bit flat going in and out of all those structures without any sort of change in the sound.

I’m impressed - really enjoying TSW3 (Xbox Series X). Seems really stable. Like the dynamic weather and nice to see a Thameslink liveried 465 lurking around Gillingham - is this a taste of things to come?

Despite my previous reservations, the German high speed route is growing on me. Just a shame there aren’t any short runs from Fulda to Wurzburg in the timetable ( I presume the Fulda to Kassel trips are trains which join/leave the route at Fulda), so I might have to play around with that UUU thingymebob to save my game, also all the freight runs are over an hour.

Wonder when TSW2 comes across if we will get any other DB electric traction, like the 155, layered in?

A Thameslink liveried 465? Are you sure about that? Would it be possible for you to screenshot this please.

I'm not sure how the lightning is done but it seems like there a few different designs and they randomly strike on the screen estate.

what I have noticed though is the lightning doesn't seem to scale correct to where it strikes on the screen and the accompanying flash doesn't always connect.

I have observed some lightning that seems like it penetrates into the cab. With it being a flash effect though it's hard to capture

Are you sure that's not some custom livery/creators club which has imported from TSW2?

  36. Having played the game on a hd monitor now, I will say I'm liking tsw3 a lot. Dtg have done a fab job, there's still some issues but, that's dtg, become accustomed to it over the years. The lighting seems a bit overly bright in places but having done a early morning run, starting in darkness with clear skies, then watching the sunrise over the mountains with a few clouds emerging. It looked almost real life to me. Perfect.

  37. That's a custom livery there's a 375 too.
