    12 inches to the foot
    3 feet to the yard
    1760 yards to the mile.
    8 furlongs to the mile
22 yards to a chain (still used in cricket)
    What’s not to love?

I’m old enough to remember the old money as well. 12 pennies to the shilling, 20 shillings or 240 pence to the pound. Not to mention the guinea (which is still used for buying and selling racehorses) which was one pound and one shilling. Then there were tanners (sixpence), joeys (threepence), florins (2 shillings), half crowns (2 shillings and sixpence), crowns, halfpennies etc (too young to remember farthings which were a quarter of an old penny).

Actually children in Britain are taught in metric units and have been for a long time now. Whether that will ever be transferred to rail and roads remains to be seen.

Just leave our Great British Pint alone though :)

Chains are still much used on Network Rail. Bridges (and other infrastructure) are identified (and plated) by their distance from some major terminus (often London), e.g. 43 miles 59 chains - there are 80 chains to a mile. Curve radius is also often given in chains.

I now understand why there were so many British computer pioneers. They had trouble to do calculations with imperial metrics and needed a computer to help them

  7. Trackside signal telephones that allow you to contact the signaller. One of those small details you wouldn't expect.

Found this cool tunnel under the main right of way near Ennepetal station on RRO. It's a neat find that I accessed from the yard halfway to Hagen from there, where I spawned a G6 with some freight wagons using Foobian's TSW God Mode mod, and set a route to the Ennepetal portal to ensure signals and switches were alright. This lets you access this long stretch of parallel singletrack and the road-rail tunnel under the mainline seen below. Just another neat find that didn't quite make it to gameplay until now!

Apperantly, there are green glowing emergency markings on the Boston DLC rolling stock. Very nice detail!

Class 66 it has tiny holes at side.

You normally does not notice them.
But with that sunlight effect are visible.
They will be for helping the ventilation of the engine and other internal devices?

That's just visual artifacting from a combination of tiled rendering and TAA.

    Are you sure about it?
I noticed just checking some pictures I took.
Not yet checked the locomotive itself on the game.

I mentioned that as I noticed the autoracks on UP SH route, it have real "holes" at side, you can see through.

Real class 66s don't have lots of tiny holes like that in the bodyside. ;)

Unfortuantly Cajon Pass is missing alot of small things here and there, this however was surprising.

    Story time!

I was in the mood for a bit of late evening trimming in Barstow so I parked my truck at the yard and was just finishing signing in when I noticed something strange off in the distance.

I ask the foreman Dan Hernandez to take over for me while I take a quick bathroom break (somehow I don't think this was OK with the big cheese but never mind that) but of course I had my eyes set on exploring that curious hilltop. I then quickly sneak my way eastward toward the kicking yard. I see another truck parked at the bottom of what looks like a dirt path. Interesting! I start to head up.

By this time I can hear an SD40-2 approaching from the west. It's Dan! I wave at him over the fence as I walk further onward. He honks his horn at me which I thought was out of endearment, but then he leaned out the window and made some gestures to me about slacking and how I will be reprimanded, blah blah. That doesn't particularly interest me at the moment.

Eventually I reach a more level area perfect for snapping a photo of the sunset through the brush!

To my left I spot a gated fence with the words ROAD CLOSED signed to the entrance. That's curious, because it looks open to me... at least just ajar enough to squeeze my overworked body through.

I climb to the next level spot and take a moment to look back and admire just how far I'd come. I begin to understand the grand majesty of this landscape with the honey-roasted hills glowing on the horizon. I can only imagine what I'll find next.

I mustn't dilly-dally for too long or I'll miss the sunset, I think to myself. Only a bit more to go.

I find myself now here at the top of the hill staring at the backside of the building and aerials I had spotted from way down below. It is almost silent except for the sound of rustling grass and crickets coming out of their daytime slumber. This is almost perfect serenity. I wonder who that truck belonged to? Where did they go?

Upon further inspection I noticed that someone has also carelessly left the gateway to the aerial open. OSHA be damned, this is the perfect opportunity and I'm seizing it.

With a firm grip I hoist myself up the truss, crossbar by crossbar. It's not actually that high to climb but whew am I out of shape!

Finally, I made it to the top. Not just the top of the aerial but what feels like the top of the world. This is what I came here for and I got exactly what I wanted. This was definitely worth the hike.

After I climb carefully back down, I snap one more photo from the ridge for posterity. Hey look, there's Dan! He looks so tiny from all the way up here.

Alright, I have to go make the return trek before it gets too dark and before I get fired. See you all later!

    Cheers

10 out of 10 for the storytelling ;) amazing that they included this in the route.
A similar elevated vantage point is also available on DRA’s Meißen branch, if I’m not mistaken. Are there any more of those on other routes?

Not quite a vantage point, but there is a small footpath parallel to the tracks you can walk on RSN (close to Finnentrop). There's also a little bit of a vantage point on SPG (at Sandpatch).

I think the hill at Dale Junction on SMH can be walked to. Also, Arosa lake can be walked around.

I dont know if this is the case on other german maps too, but on KWG, all the PZB magnets are labeled correctly (2000Hz, 1000Hz, 500Hz and 2000/1000Hz combined). Its a small but very cool detail!

I think the labels were on PZB magnets since very soon in TSW existence; not sure if they were labeled already on Rapid Transit.

If you walk past a person using an umbrella, you can hear the rain pattering on the fabric

yep I had the camera next to someone with an umbrella up in the rain, also one of the others that I thought was good was the fact you can the passengers footsteps as they walk over a footbridge (or fall through it from time to time).
On a personal note I wonder if you could get the the sound team to emit a "To infinity & Beyond " quote to each Jet Pack Passenger that has started to appear (or rather disappear) on some of the routes.

    Tony.

Spotting these little Easter eggs is a real joy of the game. I recall hearing the relay buzz and click of a signal changing aspect along some route too, or it may have been a nearby point motor. But I can’t recall the route now. Such moments are real joys to discover. Hope there will be more to go and explore for.

Heard that yesterday on Cajon Pass.
For anyone wondering, how... Use External camera ( No. 3 / 8 ) and go near any signal face ( the black part with LEDs inside ). You can hear a click when the signal changes.

Cathcart Circle, Bakerloo, BML, SEHS and ECW.
Northern trans Pennine you hear the sound of the semaphore signal dropping. Although I can hear it on the SOS route.

Noticed the helicopter flying around in a couple places whilst on Cajun Pass the other day. I wondered what it was in the sky at first when it was in the distance as it moved towards me. :)

Not sure if this has been mentioned already: Rust on rarely used tracks. Small detail, but a fine one. Found on TVL, doing a run around with the Class 31.

I have just spotted some passengers wearing some quite cool dtg polo shirts on sehsx. Can’t post my pic because dovetail live keeps showing me other folks’ shots, but wonder if they’ll sell them as merch sometime soon.

I was just taking a passenger service in the Electrostar on SEHS late morning in Autumn, and was just passed by a Class 66 running a, RHTT service in the opposite direction - spraying away and cleaning those rails. Nice to see!

Yep, considering I got a custom hoodie designed and printed as a momento of my interail trip for £25.00 it seems high. That said I'm a big lover of hoodies and have some NFL ones which set me back 3 figures so I may still spoil myself 20220120_175439.jpg

    A) It’s nice to have some branded WMR posters, instead of the usual ones.
    B) I see Dovetail does air conditioners now… how much for one?

On PC: Use F12 to make screenshots. These are the steam screenshots. You need to turn the HUD off first, using F1. Ctrl+F12 uses the ingame screenshots, but does not not upload them to DTG. It also does turn off the HUD.

We do. A long time ago I reported in this thread that at WSR you can hear the semaphore signals, if you are close enough. You should not make it a main topic in game development, but please allow for these little features people build for us to discover at some point.
