I've noticed more and more that the Playstation Discussion part of the forum is just full of bug reports, technical questions, I can't do this, Help!, and trophy not popping threads. It's not fun anymore. As far as I'm concerned the Discussion thread should be a more light-hearted place where we can discuss enjoying the game, favourite routes/locos, swapping stories, useful tips as well as on-topic banter. It seems that it's become a dumping ground at the moment. Am I alone in thinking that it should be more strictly moderated? It would help if the technical reports forum split into PC/Xbox/PS instead of the mess it has become. It doesn't look good for new or prospective players when they come to this forum and all they see is negativity. Any input DTG? Where is our community manager?
I think it is moderated, but I too am getting rather tired of it as a PC player. However, it is not our responsibility to control what people do and don't want to talk about. Obviously, a little community moderation is required for profanity and such, but as far as I'm aware, the threads here do come under "Playstation discussion." Of course, things may cool down as TSW3 settles in more, but as long as I can play TSW I'm happy. Others, who maybe have an aspect of the game they want to complain about, have every right to do so. Whether we like it or not, we must simply embrace or ignore them as long as they follow the rules. I find that the Off-topic section is the best place to go for light-heartedness.
Hi There is a good reason that you see problems everywhere. It’s just the reality about this game and so it’s time that the developers recognize how bad they are. In my opinion they should bot be allowed to release tsw 3 while tsw 2 is still full of bugs. A typical situation for me is, that i want to play a scenario to finish an dlc. But there is a 50% chance that this will fail. Red signal, trophies not unlocking or a stupid loco is standing in my way and I cannot finish the scenario. All this is very frustrating and so I really wonder if there is anything positive about the game atm.
No, it isn´t! But you might consider the fact that people are upset because there ARE quite a few issues present in this game, and not only in the PS application. Do you want to censor these voices? As an example: You´ve spent a small fortune in DLCs and add-ons and then DTG comes up with a patch. That fixes one issue ............ and introduces three new ones. Professionalism goes different in my books. What would be your reaction? Singing "Kumbaya" around the campfire? Besides, I see quite a few "positivity" threads (Look for "Those small details..." or "Awesome Service Modes ..." just to name a few) where PS players participate (yes we lurk there, guilty as charged!), although these threads are found outside the PS forums.
It probably isn't as tightly moderated (and by that I mean someone sorting the forum into posts being where they should be, ensuring posts stay on topic etc) but then JD and Alex seem to be doing a lot of things other than communication so they probably don't have time With Nat, Sam and Matt all now doing other things we're down to those two so maybe the forum is less of a "concern" for them, even though for us forum users it becomes irritating
Nobody's talking about censoring anyone, but a bug or a fault should be in the bugs / faults section so people who are looking for posts about things they're experiencing can find them more easily. That's what the OPs saying
Just look at the "bugs" section. Most posts there get zero response from DTG. At least in the main forum there is a chance they will respond and acknowledge the bug.
Personally I think the forum strikes a good balance, all sections. Most of us are generally positive about the game but there are still many issues to be addressed by DTG. And compared to some forums I’ve been on, both the salt and the adulation are relatively restrained - contrast that with say Frontier Developments forums for Elite Dangerous or Overclockers UK. For an official dev forum a fair amount of latitude is extended too. I remember when Run 8 first came out and they had their own forum. People were getting banned or kicked for the slightest dissent, even those who had supported the program and its development. Or more contemporary, Railworks America where even constructive criticism is likely to get deleted or thread locked. We don’t want that sort of intolerance here and full credit to DTG for keeping things as they are.
It's well moderated on the whole. The moderators deserve credit for allowing the free flow of opinion and for clamping down on unnecessary argument and personal attacks, neither of which are needed. The one thing I wish they would jump on more aggressively is the frequent use of cursing and foul language. Maybe it's a generational thing, but I find the use of 4 letter words, their euphemisms and their acronyms very unpleasant.
Please report them when you see them, and we'll take action accordingly. I love a good swear, but there are better ways to express yourself in a public forum. My personal take on this is that I'd rather there was conversation and threads, than anyone feeling like they're going to leapt on for saying something in the wrong place. Some aren't right all the time, and in that case, please let us know. We want the forums to feel welcoming for all, so there is an onus on all of us to be constructive, rather than jumping on someone for posting in what might not be the best place (not saying anyone here is guilty of that, but as a general note). For context, we see over 170,000 posts a year on this forum, so we're not going to see everything. Thanks for your continued help.
JD is right. There are people here from all over the world and from all walks of life. I probably also post in the wrong subforums but there are people that first of all don't speak or read English and do the effort to translate what they want to talk about in English. You can't expect those people to understand the structure of the forum. Also have you seen the technical forum? Lot's of posts there and not many replies. As a new user I would expect to get a faster response from the community than from support. Not a dig at DTG but that's how I perceive support everywhere, not only games. What if you are doing something wrong what isn't a bug? The community will help you out.
I have to say the moderators here are doing a good job. There are many dev forums where even slight criticism would get you a warning and possible a ban. DTG seems to allow criticism which is great.
Thank you JD - I didn't realise there were that many posts (~465 a day, nice number)! It may not seem like much, but for like 5 people doing community things that is a lot to do every day.
"I've noticed more and more that the Playstation Discussion part of the forum is just full of bug reports, technical questions, I can't do this, Help!, and trophy not popping threads"... and incessant whingeing.
Perhaps a similar thing happened with the launch of TSW2, and it will die down soon? Besides, they have had the worst experience of us all, what with the TSW Compatible roll-out issues, DLC limit, profile transfer. Xbox come next with their Series S issues and Xaudio issues. PC have the least worst experience of all, so I feel pretty lucky at the moment, and bad for those who really have to fight to play a game.
...with German as my mother tongue, I can't always think of every suitable English word immediately, so I have to take a quick look at Google translate too. But usually they are just specific technical terms that are not used that often. On the whole, I still understand what is posted in the forum, constructive or critical. The criticism sometimes gets the upper hand and it seems as if some only can criticize, but don't contribute their own ideas to the solution. The most important thing is that we treat each other with respect. A couple of nice words and mutual greetings also contribute to the appearance of the forum. Emoticans can also be used, that's what they are there for. For me personally, it's important not only to post text messages, but also to post some pictures as well (should be noticed regularly), which not only provides a bit of variety. Last but not least to the moderators: they can't monitor posts all day and still have other things to do. JD does a good job and always responds regularly and quickly. Alex has certainly settled in well and also gives quick feedback. I and others try to give some help and feedback too, because we may have had similar problems or noticed the same thing. This not only relieves the moderators, but makes the community as a whole very helpful...
Ha, absolutely. Then you add in all the other platforms we cover, the support tickets, the streams, the meetings, etc. etc. We love it though - we wouldn't do what we did if not.
The forum problem I see is there is really no reason to have game discussion split up by platform. I don’t get why there is no general discussion board but a PS, Xbox and PC one. Other than a few technical issues the game is the same on all platforms. I end up posting in PC even though I don’t own it on PC just cause that’s where more discussion happens. Really the forum should be split up more like: General Game Discussion British Routes North American Routes German/European Routes Technical Issues
Interesting choice for splitting it up by region - would you mind elaborating on why that could work? Also I'm sure console players would appreciate not having to scroll past threads about mods to get to their threads about audio issues and DLC limits (and vice versa).
Well, the game is not the same on all platforms. There are always some very platform- specific issues in the game. And you think that players are divided by country of origin or even by country of interest? There are many of us who buy and play routes from all regions. Also many of us like to post on all platform- specific forums, depending on the subject matter. You might, though, have a good argument for a General Discussion forum, except that it's likely to attract about 75-80% of posts, leaving the other forums virtually moribund.
As of the last few weeks all forums seem to be 75-80% people posting tech niggles or bugs in the general forums.
Like mentioned before that's because of the launch of TSW3. Every game launch comes with a flood of questions.
