Couldn't find the term Tempomat in a search here in the forums, so thought I would add this... Tempomat translated from German means "Cruise Control" or "Speed Control." And the BR442 Talent 2 DB has it! To turn on the Tempomat, press "Control R" or press the Tempomat button on the left side of your control panel inside the cab. And make sure your brakes are off when you do, as you cannot turn on the Tempomat when your brakes are engaged. Then, adjust your speed using the Tempomat lever just to the upper right of the Tempomat button on your panel, or press "R" to increase your speed setting and "F" to decrease your speed setting. You will see a blue bar and marker on your HUD speedometer showing where your speed is set. Then, sit back and enjoy the ride! The Tempomat on the BR442 Talent 2 DB is very accurate. It will decrease or increase your speed to match your speed setting as you move through the different grades that will affect your train's speed. To turn the Tempomat off, simply engage your brakes, or press "Control R" again (which works as a toggle to turn your Tempomat on and off). Cheers!
This should probably be moved to "Community Tips & Tricks." I wasn't sure where to post it, and I just now found the "Community Tips & Tricks" thread.
Much like AFB, this should only be used to maintain speed, not to accelerate or decelerate. I simply set it whenever I reach the target speed and let it deactivate automatically when I brake for a station stop or signal.
Why only to maintain speed? I'm just curious In the BR442 the Tempomat is very responsive and accurate in accelerating and decelerating, too.
Because - like AFB - it will either slam on the brakes or floor it when you change the setting, both of which are incredibly wasteful, uncomfortable for passengers, dangerous for cargo, and add unnecessary strain to the rolling stock (couplings, buffers, brake blocks, …).
as for the AFB comparison - AFB doesnt really affect throttle... it only limits the speed... so if you are at low speed and want lets say to get to 160 kmh, the acceleration depends on throttle and AFB just stops the speed from increasing once it is on target... here the tempomat seems to do 100% throttle whenever you increase its speed so... it is accurate for this train that once you activate tempomat, it goes either full throttle or full brakes? cos this happens with cruise control on Acela and over there it is considered a bug... but I guess this train has it different?
