    A quick review of priorities…

    1) Building a complete, properly lit and largely bug free route
    2)
    3)
    4)
    …..
    500) Cats & Donkey’s.

Yes, a nice addition, but for me I think it would have been better to model something like birds swooping around the train occasionally, as you'd get in real life (as if they were disturbed by the train or whatever). Maybe even Rabbits/Foxes/Pheasants near the trackside, running for cover, as you see in a lot of cab ride videos.
I remember in the first routes for TSC we had lots of circling crows etc in the countryside which greatly enhanced the immersion, for me anyway.

The cats are cute but I have always wondered why DTG take the time to get all the collectibles and easter eggs laid down before releases, yet are happy leave some areas of the routes poorly scenicked!

Did anyone explain why there are cats all over this route? I like cats, I have one myself (it looks exactly like the one watching the screen in the OP), but I’m a little confused as to why they are there. Is there something specific to this route that has prompted the devs to put them in?

As a cat owner, it's a nice touch but as others have said, putting in lineside fences and fixing the broken PIS, loss of sound entering New Street and the broken canal sections ought to be a priority.

No, not to worry, OldVern, there is a largish team whose only job is to design collectibles like fluffy dinosaurs, donkeys, colored steers??, and now... cats. They are quite separate from the much smaller dev team that produces routes and trains. :D:D

( I like cats too, but, except for " Butters ", these cats look very feral and rather unlike any domestic variety I've ever seen. );)

This might be the only community on the internet where people throw shade on cats.

Can't something just be fun for a minute?

I did ponder a while ago while Felix and Bolt weren't included at Huddersfield on either the TSW or TSC versions of NTP. Now there is no excuse not to go back and put them in!

When a DLC releases with a section of the route lacking any trackside scenery at all but at the same time someone has taken dev time to model, texture, name and place a load of pointless ‘cats’ all over it then IMHO that’s not really fun. Even if the cats took 3-4hrs, that’s 3-4hrs that could have been spent placing trackside scenery where it is absent.

This is the sort of thing that should be done when, and only when, the rest of the route is entirely complete.

Indeed. Before I refunded (and BTW DTG still haven't fixed the need to manually delete the pak file as the route still shows up) sure I spotted a section of track missing where the Down Goods at Blackwell rejoins the Down Main.

Could be fun and a nice touch if...

    a) The game (core and DLCs) did not have a gigantically large pile of bugs / issues, many not fixed since years
    b) These cats would actually look cute like normal cats do, but they look very "uncanny" in my opinion

I mean, everyone likes cats and for me cats > dogs any day of the week. But this is supposed to be a serious simulator. The devs working on cats could for example have improved the terrible rain windshield effects. That would have been time well spent.
(oh, and i know its most likely just a bought/free asset pack from the UE store)

The recently released Huddersfield Line for TSC does have Felix and Bolt at Huddersfield as far as I'm aware.
As for the TSW version of NTP, it's set in the 80s so no station cats were there back then.

I'm sure the route builder posted in the forum that the cats weren't included in the TSC version.

As regards the TSW version, well such a thing as artistic licence or even time travelling cats!

Point of view and perspective can create interesting illusions, but, in general, this is a great thread & I'd like to see more like it. How does one search for goodies such as this?

Yes the Cats are from some of the people that worked on creating the route.
Really don't see the problem with it. But as per usual the rivet counters are out in force.

Just to really annoy the rivet counters even more here's a Donkey contemplating on whether to jump or not on the BCC route. Perhaps you can make a 10 page thread moaning on why we need donkeys in the route.

No need for a new thread. We don't need donkeys in the route ( any route ). Or cats, colored cattle, green dinosaurs etc.

In fact let's get rid of all the silly collectables.

I have no issue with the cats, I was just wondering why they were all over this route.
Now that I know sort of why the cats are there, I am wondering instead why the donkey is on the roof of a tall building. It does look lonely up there. Maybe it’s scared of cats and that’s the only place it can get away from them.

Donkey suicides are on the increase. Carrying overweight people on Blackpool Beach puts a strain on the mind as well as the body. They need a hotline.

Why not? They come for the cats and donkeys, stay for the trains, and now the next generation of railfans is on its way.

Also, many adults enjoy collecting collectibles too.

Or it's scared of the mice the cats are hunting, and waiting for a signal from them that it's safe to come down.

I highly doubt anyone buys a $40 DLC for a Train Simulator "for the cats and donkeys", no matter your age.

I don't see the issue. They don't personally interest me particularly, although I do love cats. They provide something interesting to spot when wondering around a station though.

I am sure plenty of casual gamers like the "gaming" element of collecting/spotting things and it may well help to attract young people to the hobby.

I paid a few bucks extra for the cats. I was going to wait until it goes on sale, but instead, I preordered it after they showed the cat on the preview stream.

The issue is that yet again the DLC is full of bugs and parts of the scenery are not finished. If you have time to model, texture, name and place cats then you have time to complete the missing scenery on the branch line. It really is that simple.

This is either a simulator or it’s not. Matt P has taken umbrage with people calling it a ‘game’ in the past, but this nonsense is exactly why many people feel this way. I don’t have a problem with collectibles per se, but some of the stuff we’re seeing is just pathetic. Ice creams, bears, etc have no place in a simulator. I’d like to see the collectibles be relevant and real and properly add something to the route. When you add childish collectibles to pointless action points, medals, hidden cats, donkeys etc then for me you’ve crossed the line into game territory.

Obviously everyone has different opinions and is entitled to them. I just feel DTGs priorities are screwed up - finish route first, this kind of stuff if there’s time. Not the other way around.

Stourbridge Junction has a station cat which helped it win station of the year so a cat on a station isn't far from reality anyway. I think the "triggered" generally just want to find something to moan about.

Well, if cats are the reason you bought the route, I'm pretty sure you could have picked up a real one for $40 or less. :D

Don't you think that the time spent on the cats might have been better spent on completing the reportedly unfinished scenery?
