I recently treated myself to a series x after getting fed up working on and gaming at pc desk. As I was looking for things to play on series x I saw that capcom and some of Microsoft's newer games are now being released as gen 9 only in 2023. if the big boys are doing it I can't see we're too far out from a "no more gen 8 content " day irregardless of supposed player base. Incidentally I tried tsw on the series x. It ran okish, not as good as pc but I do think console players need a hat tip with that control scheme. I think summing will stay upstairs and gaming down
If gen 8 still works, it will keep on getting supported. I have a feeling once a lot of people have a next gen console, then dtg might consider dropping it. Maybe by the next tsw game or the game after that. The games you mentioned are mostly triple a titles that make their games visually impressive and heavy. Tsw isn't like that so I expect last gens to be supported until they are not as common. Don't know when
DTG can see the percentage of players on old gen, and they can also see how much additional effort is spent on readying a DLC for the older consoles. My personal guess is that old gen will be supported for another 1.5 years until Train Sim World 4 comes out. I’m personally still on PS4, but would have absolutely no problem upgrading to a PS5 once enough reasons are there. All the games I play regularly (TSW, GTA Online, Battlefield 2042) still get full support on last gen consoles currently, so I personally see no reason to upgrade anytime soon.
That's my guess. When they bring out TSW4, it will be "Sorry, there will be no Gen 8 version. But all your Gen 8 DLC will upgrade to the Gen 9 version for free." The real break point will be when a mega-blockbuster like GTA 6 releases for Gen 9 and PC only. That would practically force the last-gen holdouts to trade up.
Exactly. It was all quite different during the PS3 -> PS4 transition, where like 90% of games were exclusive to next gen after a year or so. The industry works differently now, I guess, and technology jumps aren‘t as big as they used to be.
This transition was slowed down by Covid, and by the fad for bit-mining which caused a chip shortage, ergo low supply and high prices.
This really depends on when DTG decides to move on to TSW4,if it's later then yes but if they move sooner 8th gen might get one last huraaah.I say this because it's been shown DTG like to move on whenever the technical problems become annoying with the current TSW? game.
