Hi guys, I am in need of assistance. After deciding that my TS was in need of some tlc I decided to invest in some AP products. I have the latest version of TS Tools and have read and watched everything I can find to do with loco swapping (both AI and driver). I have followed the instructions with regards to finding all .ap files and indexing routes and scenarios, however when I swap out a class 465 for the AP version in Chatham ML career mode the tool states and shows that the loco has been swapped until I start the scenario and it will CTD. I have also cloned a scenario and tried the same thing but it throws errors. Can anyone shed any light on what I may be missing as I don't believe it should be that difficult to swap out locos. Many thanks.
I had a similar problem, From my limited knowledge of TS tools, I find when swapping entire consists (rather than locos) it’s easier (and quicker) to use the TSC scenario editor in the game. I think For changing entire consist (for DMU etc) you have to swap out every item individually in TS Tools which for me sometimes to does not work. However if there is a way to change entire consists with TS tools I too would be very interested to know how! If it’s just changing the loco, ie an 86 to and 87, and the rest of consist is the same, the TS tools works a treat!
Thanks for the replies gents, I'll keep fiddling. I have tried changing and saving individually as I go but it still doesn't like to play. I'll report back if I find out how it actually works.
Tying to recall: you mentioned a career scenario, do you not have to convert it into a standard one when changing in TS Tools? Did you click the change loco number in TS Tools (advised on the guides I read, but can’t see why it would cause problems either way)? Also, do you clone scenarios prior to editing (vis the TS menu Build option), so if you screw anything up, you still have the original to go back to?
I converted the career to standard by cloning in TS Tools and I have tried with the loco numbers ticked and unticked. I have now done a verification of the files and re-installed TS Tools to see if it was a bugged install, will let you know how it goes.
Well I decided to download LocoSwap 1.20 and give that a try but for some reason only some of the routes can be accessed? If I select Medway lines it will show the scenarios but when I select Chatham ML it shows a blank and the same is happening for a lot of my other routes even though they are ancient so probably wouldn't be .ap packed files. I may have to remove all of my workshop subscriptions to see if one of them is messing the system. Onwards and upwards!
Have you downloaded ts tools? I found that I needed to extract the route data from the .ap files to make it visible in locoswap.
Doing that right now as I guessed that may be the problem as so many routes are not showing in LS. EDIT- Thanks R3dS41t extracting the .ap data has allowed all the routes scenarios to eb displayed, now to see if a loco swap can be achieved!
Right, Thanks to all of your help I have now managed to get the AP class 465 to show in the cloned scenario BUT I now have a strange issue whereby the cab view is just a mass of flashing black polygons. The passenger view is fine as is the outside view but i can't see anything in the cab, any ideas on what could be causing it? I can see the finish line! (Well not from the cab I can't)
Well I've had some results, TS Tools is useful for extracting .ap files and not much else. LocoSwap does exactly what it's supposed to do with ease. I have managed to swap out different locos on a workshop scenario after following instructions to manually put in the workshop scenarios then unsubscribe from the Steam version. (To stop corrupted Steam installs) I am however still having an issue with trying to swap out the class 465/377 on the Chatham ML cloned career scenario. LS shows everything as being swapped out but TS still loads the scenario into a black glitched mess of a cab then CTD with OOM. If anyone has CML and AP class 465 vol.1 could they see if scenario #3 Gillingham-Victoria is able to have the driver loco changed whereby it works? Thanks again to you great guys on this forum for your help so far, I have had TS since 2014 and have only just decided to spend some serious money on making it realistic and I'm realising that it's going to involve a bit of learning! Just to add I had a look at the scenario with the TS editor and it looks like the driver icon is about halfway down the train and not at the front like it is in the unmolested scenario so that may be the problem? Jay.
Sorry I haven’t tried Locoswap yet, but I’ve never had any issue with TS Tools: rereading your OP, I picked up on the fact you mentioned swapping the loco: wondering if the initial problem results from just swapping the lead car and not the whole unit? Maybe try swapping the entire consist?
Ts tools is usefull for much more than that. Many of the things are niche things that would simply be extremely timeconsuming without it. In my “field”, building consists for my advanced quick drives (Real Drives) would take too long without it. AND adding a new route id to two hundred consists would take 4-5 hours. In ts tools it takes 20 seconds.
Sorry Kim I was just being sarcastic, I'm going to have keep trying to find out why I can't edit a cloned career scenario that has been made into a standard and why, when it does finally start it contains graphic errors. I shall go back to the beginning and start again
I have swapped the entire 4 car consist 1 car at a time, the only thing I get confused with is the DMSO A and B versions I'm not sure what the difference is compared to the standard consist which is a DMOC and if it would affect the consist ? (I know it's Driving motor open class and Driving motor standard open, so they should be the same) Edit- As I had changed all of the AI locos over to AP ones I thought I might try and leave them as AP stock and change the driver loco back to a DTG standard and it now works with all AI using the AP sound and textures, so it looks like the issue is just to do with the driver loco. I can't figure out what would cause it not to work apart from the fact that the driver pin in the editor is halfway down the loco and not at the front as it is in the original scenario.
Right I have used the TS editor to manually put the AP loco in and have moved the instructions to the right place and it still crashes on scenario start. I have to come to the conclusion that this route doesn't like the driver loco being changed even in a standard scenario setting.
Which is the specific scenario, Sparra? I’ll try swapping it tomorrow and see if I have similar issues.
If you could buddy that would be great, it's Chatham Main Line (original one) Career scenario #3 2K90 0708 Gillingham-London Victoria. As a side note I can't get the destination boards to show up using the f keys as in the manual but they will show when I place the loco using the editor?? so it may be that there is some error in the pack itself, although I have re-installed 4 times already (complete with branding and extras) I've tried everything I can think of and hopefully I'm just being amateur and it will work Thanks again.
I presume you swapped the whole unit and not just the driving coach? Try swapping the unit you are having a problem with in the game. You can put the driving coach of the current vehicle on the next track the drag the instructions on to the new unit. The placing of the instructions should not make a difference at long as they are on the leading vehicle.
Just had a look now, Barra, but I’m afraid I don’t have the AP465 EP (and a fair number of other EMU EPs too). Unfortunately the sale has ended, or I might have been gotten it. Not sure if someone else can try this instead?
That's what I have done Pete, I swapped out the DTG 465 for the AP version 4 car set up with DMOC TSO TSOL DMOC and dragged the instructions over. It shows the AP unit as being placed as the destination blinds show up but when I press play it will not allow me to access the cab (almost like it's still in edit mode) Then if I quit out and try to play the scenario it will either show a black mess of flashing polygons or it will CTD?
Have a look at the extra letters in the units number [page 21 in the manual] Example number: 465232h;D2=c;HC=84;DB=1;AC=1 Key: 465232 - Unit number h - Destination ;D2=c - Destination (via) ;HC=84 - Two-digit headcode ;DB=1 - Dynamic brake isolated ;AC=1 - Air conditioning roof unit Sometimes without the numbers they don't work - I have had problems before when swapping DTG stock for AP stock The default train will just be 465232 but the AP version needs more to make it work
Will go and look at that now Pete, I guessed it might not be as straight forward as I thought. I am going to have to spend a day with the manual.
Right I have got a little further, I placed a 4 car AP consist rather than placing individual cars and I using Pete's advice above I have put in the code for Victoria to be shown on the destination blind and a proper unit number (You only have to change the DMOC A to change the whole consist.) Lo and behold I can now enter the AP cab!! Now I have 2 errors showing that my train can't find Kent House Platform 2 and another error that states another service (still labelled as Driver) can't find Gillingham platform 1, would this be something to do with the instructions? Many thanks to all of you who have helped and I think it may be time for a few days of reading and application!
Good to see some progress! Is the new AP consist replacing the old one exactly? In the same spot, with the same instructions? It’s a while since I used the TS Editor, but I found it less finicky if you delete all the cars of the existing consist except the lead one with the driver icon, move that further up the line to give room for the new consist, and after you’ve put that in, move the introduction driver icon to the leading cab on the new consist, then delete the legacy lead car.
It is replacing the old consist entirely. I did it by placing the new consist in front of the old one, move the instructions to the front of the new one then delete the old then finally move the new one back. It could be that it's not exactly in the same spot as the old one. Now I have the knowledge to actually get a working AP consist into the scenario I'll try again deleting everything but the old lead car so I know where the front end limit is. phew.....
That sounds like it should work equally as well, I think I just did it slightly differently due to space limitations. TS Editor used to drive me nuts as multiple copies would spawn and go all over the place, whereas TS Tools was more manageable, but I never seemed to have any issues swapping in AP stuff when I did. Not sure what’s the continuing problem re the error messages: I can’t see why they arise if all the instructions have been copied over. Maybe try an AP ‘swap in’ in a simple scenario on another route and see if it goes smoothly?
I think that may be the best idea, I've spent 3 days trying to get this one scenario to work and I know the AP pack is fine as it works in QD along with the AI. Thanks to all of you for sticking with me
Well for whatever reason it is now working. I had a lot of issues with TS Tools giving a runtime error 6 overflow and it generally was not playing ball. When I checked task manager there were about 4 instances of TST running even though I had closed it down so I basically shut everything down and cleared the cache, wiped the cloned route and started again with Locoswap. Swapped all the AI and my train to AP and fired it up to be greeted by a Track.bin error, f2 and cancel the save and it now runs...???!!! This is a finicky game to say the least but when you've been messing with XPlane for years you come to expect it Now to install the other 12 AP packs I bought in the sale.. Hopefully I can learn a lot more about how this program works so I can give back to this community the same as I have received. Thanks guys
Do you open TS Tools via run as administrator? I believe that’s advised to prevent certain issues, as with TS Utilities.
Everything is being run as admin. I have found TST to be really buggy but I will persevere with it as it does look like a great tool to have. Just finished the scenario and it ran without fault and I've got to say the AP packs make it a different game.
I'm a bit late on this one, but the cause of this probably is that you need to open the scenario in the TS editor and manually check the RSC/ECMLS resources (because enhanced 465's by AP use the cab from the 365 of the ECML South !) This is not something that LocoSwap will do automatically for now.
hello, sorry i'm bringing up a oldish thread. ,i'm trying to check for missing assets on a route, but i'm getting these 2 errors when i click on prompt to search for missing textures, how can i fix? Thanks
