I haven’t reported this to DTG as they are closed until the 3rd. Since the last update TSW3 fails to load. I bought TSW3 with the Spirit of Steam package which is no longer available on Xbox. Every TSW3 game asks me to buy it again. I have re installed all add ons and the routes it came with as they say owned, but alas TSW3 still won’t load. It hasn’t been a problem as I can still play TSW and TSW2 but TSW3 won’t even work offline as well. Has anyone else experiencing this problem or do you know of a resolution please?
I haven't had this issue, but I suggest you check your drives on your Xbox (internal and external) as it might not be on your internal one. As I once tried looking for a game, I own on Xbox one that I couldn't find, and I found it in my external storage which doesn't show the game on. Also you could try taking the game from you internal drive if there and move it to external and back to see if some of the code got lost when you bought it.
Thank you for your response I will look into that but have now submitted a ticket. I can reinstall everything from the Microsoft Store except TSW3. It has allowed me to reinstall Birmingham X city and the German route but microsoft say I have to pay again on the xbox store but on the Microsoft Store page on my mobile it says install. It won’t install from my mobile either. Wierd!!
Have tried everything DTG have suggested and uninstalled and reinstalled TSW3. DTG seem to think it is a console problem, but I can play TSW2020 and TSW2 and every other game I own. Playing on a Xbox One S which I bought a couple of years ago and have 360gb available out of 1TB. Anyone experienced the same and rectified the problem, I would be pleased to hear how you solved this issue?
This is an odd one. Given you are able to download routes like BCC and SKW, but not TSW3 itself, the only way this would make sense normally would be if you had previously been using the game via Game Pass and it left GP or your GP sub lased, that would have explained it but you said you bought the TSW3 Steam bundle, so you ought to still have the ability to install the core TSW3 game because of that. What shows up in the list when you go to manage game via the XBox dashboard? What message does it give when you try to run it?
Princess Entrapta thank you for your response. TSW3 and all addons show as installed. It stopped loading immediately I installed the last update a few weeks ago. Can play TS2020 and 2. My original purchase no longer shows in Microsoft store but all routes are owned and have been installed. I found on the screenshot you supplied that I could uninstall and reinstall 3 but it still won’t open. The loading process takes 10-15 minutes and reboots to my games. On a couple of occasions it opened the UI but as soon as I clicked it rebooted to my games.
Have you tried clearing the XBox One's cache? Hold the power button for 20 seconds, then unplug it, leave it a minute, and plug it back in, wait for the white light on the power brick to turn orange, and turn it on. If a game is hanging perpetually on launch and then crashing to the dashboard, this will sometimes clear the bad data.
What do you mean "no longer available"? The Spirit of Steam Starter pack should still be in the store. Since you bought it, it should say "You own this" and give you the option to install. Anyway, in a subsequent post you said that you did in fact uninstall and re-install the game, so this is not really the issue. These routes come with separate license. The Spirit of Steam Starter Pack only gives you the Training Centre and the Spirit of Steam route. Actually, when this happens, the game remains installed on your XBox, but you cannot launch it. There's an error message asking you if you own the game, or login with the account who owns the game. This is the one I would be most worried about. Why does the purchase no longer appear in MS Store? Maybe you can take it up with XBox support?
I was specifically referring to being able to install DLC for the game, as initially it was unclear in OP's post if they were able to install the core game itself at all - which would be a problem that would mean that no content installed for it would be able to launch without it. This is why I directed them to the manage content screen since in there you should be able to view a more accurate list than the store displays of owned and available content, as well as install anything that may not be installing properly via the store, since the XBox store can notoriously have issues when trying to install bundles you purchased, where it does not always correctly install all the included content that's part of that bundle, and you need to manually install some of them. I'm not. this is perfectly normal. It happens when you purchased a specific bundle and the store was later updated and that bundle was replaced with an almost identical version but, for example, preorder content removed. The new version will show as unowned and have a buy button in the store even though you do own and can individually install all of its contents. This is one of the reasons why you should only try to install stuff directly on the store as a last resort, and always do it via the install manager first. This seems as if it could be exactly the mistake the OP made in this instance, having confirmed when responding to my post that all the routes like SoS show as installed in the manager, but the currently available SoS starter pack does not show as owned in the store. There's a good chance that if OP checks out their actual MS account purchase history and scrolls to the date of the purchase SoS will be in there too and if they check the store page for SoS and then specifically go to the "content included in this bundle" and click on the route dlc itself it'll show as owned even if the bundle does not. The main problem that's a priority to solve is why the game is not loading, which the additional info on it hanging on the loading splash for 10 minutes then loading to the main menu before crashing to the dashboard suggests is indeed a local console issue, hence me advising clearing the cache. Once we resolve that we can then see if the game is recognising SoS as owned since if it isn't then it should be missing ingame or cause an error message about not owning the content (not sure exactly which as I don't think I have ever tried to load a game with DLC I do not own installed and the only way to test it would be a friend bringing over a USB drive with a game I own but with dlc I don't own on it, and me trying to load it on my account) I'd suggest for the sake of further testing, if the cache clear doesn't work, uninstalling all DLC and only installing the core TSW3 game and training centre and seeing if that loads, if it does, install routes one by one and see if the game crashes with them installed. As an additional note just on my personal experience I did find when TSW3 launched that having both TSW3 and TSW2 installed on the same XBox at the same time, they did not play nice with each other and both would bug out a lot in recognising my installed routes if both TSW2 and TSW3 had that route installed. This cleared up immediately when I moved the two games and their respective copies of the DLC to separate external drives which I only hook up one of at a time. (in the case of my Series consoles, a 2TB and 1TB Seagate expansion card, respectively).
I'm fairly certain that you can install DLCs bought separately from the game without even owning the game. You do that from the store, on the page of the DLC. There's nothing stopping you from buying a DLC, there's simply a note that says you need the game to use this content. Also, if he was not able to install the game, he wouldn't even have a Manage Content screen, right? To get there, you have to have the game installed, and then navigate to its "Manage Content" screen. To the OP: from what you last mentioned, you do have the game installed, along all the content, and when you launch it, it doesn't let you play (long wait followed by crash, or load followed by crash). If this is correct, may I also suggest you try this one thing: remove all the DLC (from the manage content screen), and try to start the game. This should be quick to load, but only let you visit the Training Centre. If this doesn't work, then something is wrong with the game itself. On the other hand, if this works, you could try adding DLCs one at a time, and try to pinpoint which one is causing the grief. Good luck!
Yep, that was what I suggested if the cache clear failed to resolve the loading issue. Install the core game and training centre, and see if it would load. This problem with the game launching as OP described in the response to my initial request for more info is clearly a problem of it hanging and crashing to the dashboard, which is an issue with the local content or the console. The cache clear often fixes this. If not it comes down to diagnosing what installed content is causing the issue.* You can indeed, but OP absolutely does appear to own the game since it launches as far as the menu before crashing. If you don't own it, then it won't let you past the splash screen before giving the "do you own this content?" screen. Therefore my initial questions were in part to rule out the all too common scenario we see where someone installs their routes via the store page but does not install the core game, and so cannot get the game to run. * there are also extreme edge cases where a corrupted xbox cloud save is causing an issue like this and making the game crash when it finishes downloading the save and attempts to access it, but that is thankfully very rare as fixing it is a bit of a faff, and I've only come across it once in the last seven years
Yes DTG recommended this. Also as you can see from the attached photo Microsoft want me to purchase it again. However I have now managed to reinstall TSW3 and all content but it still aborts to the desktop on loading. The package I first purchased cost £45 which included TSW3 all three routes in the package and Spirit of Steam. This package is no longer available. I will uninstall all DLCs as you both suggested and reinstall TSW3 and then each individual DLC and report back tomorrow. Thanks guys for helping.
Yes, this is what I described. The starter pack is NOT the deluxe edition you purchased and so the store page for the starter pack will ask you to buy it, because you do not own the starter pack, it is a separate bundle from the one you own. You don't need to buy it of course, because if you scroll down the page to "In this bundle" you will see listed TSW3 and Spirit of steam, and if you click on either of those it will take you to the individual store pages for each of them which will show them as owned. As I said, what you were doing wrong was looking at the store page for a bundle you have not bought, even though it is made up of individual things you already own. Easy mistake to make. Same thing happens a lot if a game has a "gold" edition, a "digital deluxe" edition, and a "standard edition" where each one contains the full contents of the one beneath it and more, often the store page for the standard edition with no DLC and the digital deluxe edition with certain bonuses will both still show a purchase price even if you own the Gold edition and therefore already have all the content included in the lesser editions installed. Good luck with this, I'll keep checking in to see your results and we can go from there. Now we've eliminated any question of there being a problem with your licensing for the game, and confirmed there's no problem on that end, we can try and identify why it's crashing on load. *Edit* To show this is perfectly normal store behaviour, here's a shot of my own XBox store page for TSW3, I own every one of the routes listed here but because I bought the deluxe edition and the standalone BCC DLC, all the starter packs have their regular purchase price listed because I never bought those specific bundles.
Thank you Princess Entrapta, I am following your instructions and have uninstalled everything. I have reinstalled the base game with Training Centre and can confirm that it successfully opens. I am now reinstalling the three routes and then Spirit of Steam and this will take awhile so will add further news to this posting soon, I will check the loading of the game after each separate installation.
I have now installed the three core routes plus SoS and everything is fine. I am now installing the TSW3 loco pack and decals and tomorrow I will start transferring my owned DLCs from TSW and 2. Fingers Crossed, I will let you know if I find the rouge DLC!
I have to report that although the game was working after I reinstalled everything, but the new TSW3 routes, it has failed after installing BXC and Bremen. After going through all the corrective procedures, still no joy. I am going to have to start again and uninstall everything and restart the process which took two days to complete. I will leave off the two latest routes and play with the game a while until I try and install then individually.
You could uninstall just those two routes and try the game again. This is done in the same Manage Content, you just uncheck them and then save the changes. It should uninstall the routes, and bring you back to a runnable state, without the need to reinstall everything.
Thank you Yardem, yes I did this first, by going backwards on my steps but still not playable. I think I will uninstall everything and now try TSW3 with only the new routes and see if it is profitable. I have even changed power sockets TSW and 2 are still playable. I just wish DTG would work to get one game right and stick with it instead of continual editions.
This can go a lot easier if you have an external drive you can move the content to instead of deleting and redownloading it. Put all the other routes there, keep the new ones installed, unplug the drive that content is stored on for ease of reinstalling it later, and see if it loads with only the new ones. I am wondering if it's a memory issue of some kind, given you're on an old XBox One.
Thank you PE. I have an external drive for PC where I store the TSW games. Hadn’t thought of this for my xbox as I have plenty of storage available on the internet drive of 1TB. DTG have informed me that that I may be affected by an issue other players report suggesting that there are problematic add-ons including London Commuter and the MP36PH-3C. I also have found my last purchase Bahnstrecke Bremen-Oldenburg also stops the game from loading. Is anyone else having a problem with this add-on?
Do be aware that any drive you use for this needs to be reformatted to the file system the XBox uses. It can be nice on the XBox One though, as even a SATA SSD over USB will be faster than the 5400RPM internal drive.
Thank you PE for that advice. DTG have kindly advised that the Xbox One may be running out of memory at approximately 50 add-ons installed and are hopeful of solving with the add-ons manager in the near future.
Yeah, I figured the XBox One with its 8GB of memory, only 5GB of which games have access to, would likely be running into trouble with that many routes installed. It's why they had to disable most of the layers for routes on the last gen consoles. My suggestion regarding an external drive would potentially be a workaround for it. Keep all the routes saved there and plug it in to copy them to your internal storage when you wish to use them. Should take far less time to transfer them each time than redownloading them.
But i need help with db br 766.2 livery in dresden-riesa the problem is when i select livery on db br 146 and 766.2 livery in custom Route then start the scenario my 766.2 cab car is on opposite direction why?
