Hi. Can you please tell me if there is any difference between a dedicated TWS3 map and a TWS2 map? Visually? I want to buy some of the old maps because they are on sale. And I don’t want to waste money if they are visually old looking…
If I recall correctly old maps (routes) coming from TSW2 and TSW2020 does not have: Volumetric clouds New lighting system If you consider buying some of those maybe would be good to watch some Youtube videos from gameplay on the route that interest you, so you could evaluate if it suits your graphical preferences.
Dtg are also looking at bringing the new lighting and clouds to older routes which will take time. Boston sprinter will be first.
I think the most important thing to consider is gameplay experience, and in this respect I'd certainly recommend you getting some of the older routes; London Commuter (has by far the most epic timetable on TSW with literally 1000s of services), both Dresden routes (gameplay is fantastic), or even Bakerloo (which now has a great timetable) etc. Plus, other benefits of getting older routes is that these locos will also be added into some of your TSW 3 routes (especially the German examples), thus creating a larger, varied and more immersive timetable.
Yes, dynamic weather is available in timetable mode. Lightning strikes, sparks from the third rail or overhead wires and snow effects alongside the trains have also made it to the pre-TSW3 routes.
