As part of the process to rework my TSC routes from UKTS to Steam Workshop, it has become painfully apparent that many of these use ancient Kuju track from the days of rail Simulator. While serviceable, it is not as pleasant visually as some of the track seen in more recent DLC.

I probably asked this question in the dim and distant past but can't remember when and where, so just wondered if there was a relatively painless way of doing this. I suspect it probably involves TS/RW Tools but I don't want to embark on something that could trash the route (though I will take a backup before starting :) ).

Just to be on the safe side, make clones of the route and work on these.

All the used trackrules are defined in the tracks.bin. Unserz it and do a Search-and-Replace. (Though I have not done this yet, this would be my first approach.)

On some JustTrains routes you can switch the tracks from 2D to 3D by just swapping the tracks.bin (using a .bat file)

  6. If you happy with the default concrete sleepers then the ap track enhancement should automatically replace the old style track.

It doesn't replace as OldVern said the route uses Kuju track and AP track ep doesn't replace any of the kuju Assets

  8. I think if you go to the assets in editor mode and tick ap track ep it replaces the track? Or maybe not after the dtg update. I just opened one of my routes and there's no track anywhere now.

I just had that the first time I tried to run the process, think I didn't copy and replace enough of the text.

This is a very fickle process. Tried to replace with the track from Wutachtalbahn, thought I'd nailed all the text entries in RW Tools but when I went back in the route the Oxford track still showing.

I will persevere but this goes to show why the editor needs a simple replace function similar to Trainz Surveyor.

Have you ticked Wutachtalbahn in the World Editor?

It was me being a moron. After changing the track type I had forgotten to save the tracks.bin in RW Tools. D'oh.

    All good now.

    Much nicer than Kuju default.

Really pleased with how the project is going. Just need to remove and replace the rest of my items and a few other jobs, should be Workshop fready.

    Brill!

By the way, if you have any scenario for the route which has modified track properties or added markers, these are stored in "ScenarioNetworkProperties.bin". It is important to know that every modified section contains the trackrule used - in this case you need to update the scenario or it will use the old tracks.

This is the reason why there are missing tracks in the RSSLO Allgäubahn quickdrives - they have been created using different (DB Tracks) tracks. (That's the difference between the Steam and RSSLO download version). I've made a patch for the QD fixing these issues if anyone's interested.

I don't think I made any route changes for the scenarios.

The only problematic item now is tunnels as the Wutach variant doesn't have a lining whereas the original Kuju one does and I don't fancy lofting a tunnel cover along the extensive tunnels this route has. It's not a huge issue, just means I can't apply sound properties to the tunnel sections (reverb) but that's a small price to pay for being able to preserve and otherwise overhaul the route.

Must admit I'm quite enjoying the project which is a good way of getting back up to speed with the TSC editor without starting a new route from scratch.

Once the TSC routes have been dealt with, my thoughts will turn to maybe building at least part of my old MSTS routes in TSC (the ones that aren't already represented) but that's a few weeks/months off.
