So, I just got an Xbox Series X for my birthday and I'm wondering if it would be worth the money to buy the Xbox version of the game? I currently play it on my PS4 slim and I'm curious how the game performs on newer hardware. I see that it is possible to buy TSW2 with Rush Hour already included so the only other DLC I would have to rebuy is LIRR and the Harlem line. Is there any benefit to playing the game on series X instead of the PS4 slim?
I don't think it's possible to buy TSW2 anymore. It is no longer available to purchase in MS Store. If you can find a valid key and redeem it, that would work. I'm playing TSW2 on XSX and it's great. Don't know how it compares with PS4 slim, but I've had no issues running the game on XSX. It's actually comparable to playing on my PC running at 4K resolution.
To summarise, if you can get a copy: 4k60fps, additional layers to routes not present on 8th gen, and the usual XBox benefits, such as no DLC cap, save import to TSW3 working properly, and the ability to play the PC microsoft store version on your PC (with caveats on TSW2 of no rush hour)
If you want to get a (relatively) cheap boost to your route and loco collection, it is still entirely possible to pick up both TSW2020 and TSW2 on disc for SX. You can then log a ticket with DTG to obtain codes for the routes that come with 2020 and 2, for use in TSW3 should you purchase it. The only route not obtainable by this method is the NEC as it was never re-made for 2
Playing the game in 4K would certainly be nice. That was my plan, to buy it on disc. I still see copies of TSW2 Rush Hour on Amazon and Game Stop, so that's where I would get my copy from. I knew there was some kind of thing you had to do if you bought the game on disc. Thanks for the reminder. I do intend to buy TSW 3 one day, but none of the new routes it comes with really appeal to me. When I do buy TSW3, it will be on the Series X.
Ordered physical copies of both TSW 2 Rush Hour and TSW 2020 Collectors Edition. Also plan on getting TSW 3 sooner rather than later because I’m starting to realize that the Acela DLC that’s been teased probably isn’t coming to TSW 2. Also wanted to get Spirit of Steam and from what I am seeing I think the Spirit of Steam starter pack is not that much more money than the TSW 2 version of Spirit of Steam.
If you have a Disk version of TSW 2020 & TSW 2 contact support for a code to transfer your routes to TSW 3 if purchased digitally. Click here for the support page
Been playing both TSW 2 and TSW 2020 on my series X recently. I will say that TSW 2 runs smoother and load times are faster than on my PS4 Slim, so I think rebuying it is definitely worth it. TSW 2020 already performed fine on my PS4 and is about the same on series X.
