My apologies if someone has already written about this, but it concerns the announcements on the Edinburgh to Glasgow express. I think they are 385s. Has anybody managed to get the announcements to finish properly? Every time I click on one it will not complete it, but leaves it hanging in mid-air. For instance, "The next station is......." and that is it. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a Rivit games bug that will never be sorted? Sorry about the negativity, but my experience of Rivit games comes from the Cornwall local, and I am far from impressed with that. Any help would be appreciated.
Have been running on scenarios and timetables and have announcements generally working OK. I know there are some issues with announcements ending properly when the service has yet to start or when there's an issue in the scenario itself so it might be helpful if you can give specific examples (ie, run number or scenario name, location etc)
The next station will only be said when you close your doors and prepare for departure at the beginning of the service. Don't have the route but YouTube videos show it. From there, it will continue to say the next station depending on where you are
Announcements read from the checklist, the next station will only work when it appears as the next objective. Also, if you start on foot or continue after a service has ended, then it also doesn't work. This is an experimental thing, so it is allowed to have bugs and glitches
Not when you're charging £30 for what is considered by some about the amount you pay for mid-tier or ex-AAA games. I'm glad they're trying it but it could be implemented a little better.
So you're saying because one aspect of something doesn't work how you expect it, it devalues the rest of the content in what you're buying... That's an odd perspective
Not really. I've always found that concept weird. Things which are additional aren't counted as more value than if they weren't there, but you knock off for things which are added that don' necessarily function as you would like (and I have queried as to why the announcements don't work as much as others, but it doesn't reduce the value of the pack overall for me)
I mean, the route and the train model I think are well worth £30. The working TMS and the announcement audio is a bonus I would probably have paid more for. Yes, the fact it doesn't work that well is annoying, but honestly, I'm glad it actually works! Because I want that realism, I also like how it's manual, so if you don't want to hear it, you don't have too.
I understand that but as a consumer you are protected by consumer rights, well in the UK anyway. Where video games are involved it states that you have the right to a full or partial refund if a game you have purchased is not as described or does not work as intended.
Does it say in the adverts for the DLC that it has realistic, automated announcements? I think I missed that part https://store.steampowered.com/app/...tRail_Express_Edinburgh__Glasgow_Route_AddOn/ This is the page I used to buy the DLC, the closest it gets is "functional in-cab Train Monitoring System" and from what I've played the TMS does function. It may not be absolutely true to life, but it IS a game/sim I doubt anyone would be able to say the advert doesn't represent what there is in game in a sufficient light to trigger any consumer rights issue
Steam never used to refund anything. You waived your rights when making a steam purchase. It was only until a few years ago they started refunding games thanks to an agreement with consumer rights.
And I am talking about today. No reason to go back in time here. The DLC didn't exist back then for a start
Today, tomorrow, yesterday whats it matter. My point is that the OP has a right to complain weather you like it or not.
It very much matters in a lot of things And yes, they have the right to complain the same as I have the right to say I disagree fundamentally with their opinion and of course others have a right to proceed with jambing an unrelated oar in That's how forums work in free speech societies
Thank you for your advice it was quite correct. Though it does seem a bit stupid to me that the announcements don’t work properly from being on foot and boarding the train. The 1 minute you are given is an impossibly short time to prepare the cab ready for departure and do the necessary announcements. Having worked on the railway, it is more realistic to walk to and board your train rather than appear in the cab at the touch of the start button. Also if I remember correctly a driver would be given a minimum of ten minutes to prepare his train ready for departure from the platform. That wouldn’t be feasible in game but 2 minutes should be allowed by Rivit to prepare properly. As it is on Birmingham cross city.
Let me put perspective on this for you. Yes bugs will be forever present but it seems daft that some of these bugs weren't caught in their QA/testing phase, especially the door bugs of all things. I dont want to say that games companies are getting lazy, because I know a lot of hard work is going into aspects of games and DLC but you look at games from the late 90s and early 2000s, the amount of bugs in them was generally quite small and yet those games were still fairly complex in design and what they were achieving. I'm starting to see a pattern in modern gaming in that the studios that make games and DLC are just not being given enough time to iron out the problems in their games and content and the finger needs to be pointed at whoever is pushing out material when its not ready or has been fully tested. Its a shame because it overshadows the genuine hard work done by the devs and team who make the actual content, all because someone in a suit and fancy haircut wan'ts their dosh a little quicker.
Does TSW have a single incab MFD that works as it does in reality? Personally If anything like TMS gets announced for a unit then I don’t compare it to anything that exists IRL, because it’s rarely the case in TSW that we see it function in such a way. The biggest issue with the TMS/Announcements are that it was a very poor implementation for consoles & the way you have to manually trigger the announcements on an individual basis, for me it makes the whole thing border on a gimmick and not a stand out feature. The whole thing with GSMR was pretty laughable too, Rivet went out of their way to build a TMS and then make the GSMR console the PIS display system? Overall the 385 setup is unimpressive - but yes, legally it is as advertised. Not really a great selling point for a product though is it.
QA is done by companies and people who sit for hours doing the same thing over and over again, usually with no specific interest in the product. They'll be told, does XYZ work in these conditions. I did testing for a big online game years ago, I got given an asset and told, go on this map, and drive into every wall and make sure there are no gaps/ missing hit boxes/ areas that will freak the engine out. Took me 8 hours of crashing into every wall I could find and I never wanted to do it again, i still struggle to bring myself to play thay game because of that one menial task.
Which is what most people realistically expect QA to do - where are issue lies is with the Beta team. Unfortunately we don’t know what feedback is being given though. Wherever the failure is, it’s pretty embarrassing that DLC’s have to be delayed at the last minute, or DTG have their products picked apart within hours of release & subsequently improved by a couple of community members within the same short period of time.
They didn't use the official announcements due to 'Licencing Issues' even though it clearly says Licenced by Scotrail, And omg the announcement chime is horrible... ...Just when you get hyped over something on TSW this always seems to happen!
Licensing the ScotRail brand does not mean they are allowed to use the voice of the person who does the announcements. They would need to reach an agreement with them personally, as they did for Great Western Express, back when DLC was fully voice-acted.
The guy who did the voiceovers on the American freight scenarios (SPG?) was fantastic, really got into his role talking with the radio operators The lady that voices the traing centre scenarios is pretty good as well, enthusiastic (if a little hammy) And of course we have DTG Matt's dulcet tones on a variety of routes/locos in the training modules The only one that irritates me is the old sounding guy on Cornwall (among others) as he talks really slowly and I want him to go faster as I have a timetable to keep to More voiced stuff please DTG
Absolutely, I found him so irritating, although I was able to do quite a good impression of his voiceovers. I even tried making my own voiceovers but we could never figure out how to mod the game to allow it. But yes, having the subtitle boxes with no audio seems like a wasted opportunity. If DTG's interested I'll do the voiceovers and they can pay me in Train Simulator DLC. I can do quite a good announcer voice.
It always amused me after the route introduction had finished you'd have something like: "This concludes the training module for this route, but there is much more you can do as you explore such as placesignsplacepostersfillpaperstandspickupdinosaurswaterflowersfixmachinescleanwallswashthepotshaveacuppa. This (dramatic pause) Is Train Sim World Tryngamville to Floobertown"
Easy answer to this, stopping falling for the internet and getting any sort of emotion BEFORE knowing what it is you're getting emotional about. Hype isn't valid in this space... Proven time and again
