Is there any reason why we can't have longer routes, Bristol Temple Meads - Plymouth or even Penzance for example? or Liverpool to Birmingham or London?

I'm not too sure, DTG don't want to make longer routes mostly because 1. They think people will get bored of them quicker, 2. Because it takes a lot of effort and DTG can't be bothered.

Mileage isn’t always the key factor as number of stations and scenery density are just two other important factors!

Let's be fair a lot of the scenery is generic and not actual, so I don't see that as a major issue in this, If you're going to run a longer route without regional services and stick to inter city for example, surely a lot of the stations are pretty much generically the same.

They would not get away with generic stations lol, the customers want a 300 mile route that is as detailed as a 30 mile route. Or the people living nearby will complain it isn't accurate.

No I regularly travel along the ECML between Peterborough and York and I can tell you now York looks nothing like Peterborough and Peterborough nothing like Grantham. I would take a shorter route over generic stations.

You should build a 100 mile route yourself with lots of stations, accurate scenery, complex scenery, 24 hour timetable, new trains and scenarios with no major bugs and release it in less than a year since routes take several months to build. Not attacking you or anything but game development is a long and tedious process and unless you've actually made an actual game, then you wouldn't really know how complex it really is. Building 100 miles of track is building all the stations and scenery in that 100 miles.

I don't care about the simulation running 500 other trains on a complete system if it means I get longer routes to enjoy I don't need hundreds of routes running that I don't see to simply fulfil an imaginary timetable, the same way I don't care if the sound isn't quite right or if the paint is the wrong shade or that actual loco didn't run on that line at that time, I'm not that anally retentive. I want longer routes and as a long term customer with loads of DLC, that I currently can't play due to issues that still haven't been addressed (unfortunately as is usually the case with DLC with this product), as a customer that should be looked at, at least.

Well I am afraid a train simulator trying to mimic reality like TSW is not the right train game for you then mate!!

We live in the 60 minutes is a lifetime generation, I have the same issue with racing simulations, they seem to have lost all races longer than 15 minutes, I can understand that, this is the generation with the attention span of a gnat in a lot of cases (not all before the internet warriors enter attack mode lol.)

well not in all of it blatantly there are lots of generic bits that aren't like the real route, but hey you're welcome to your view, maybe conversing in a forum isn't where you need to be if you can't discuss things and be constructive.

I'll have you know that generic tree with leaves #1 replicates perfectly trees in real life

All of the routes I play I could be spawned in at a certain location I would be be able to state which route and roughly where on the route because I would recognise buildings or scenery. Some things like trees and grass will be generic but I don’t expect them to go and analyse every blade of grass along the route. I do however expect buildings particularly stations to be accurately represented. It is when people suggest that the sounds and scenery should be wrong where you just can’t be constructive!

I would like longer routes too but not if, like you suggest, means generic stations and inaccurate trains sounds because this is a simulator which costs money trying to represent reality and not a mobile game you can install for free!

I can tell you now that route isn't available on a PlayStation and I'm sure its not a TSW2 or TSW3 route.

Really because I live in Plymouth and used the Cornwall line regularly, the buildings are not correct, neither are they on the GWR London to Reading route. After the amount I have spent on this game, half of which I currently can't access without deleting other DLC, I am fully aware that it isn't a mobile game or for free, maybe this is why I'm less than impressed that DLC I have paid for is unavailable for my enjoyment due to the inadequate job a company that continues to pour out DLC at an increased cost, still fails to address issues with earlier releases and with an adequate solution to the DLC problems associated with the PS5 and TSW3 upgrades.

GWE was their first English route and the stations aren’t generic on it!

I never said the stations were generic, but a lot of the buildings along the route aren't correct.

I still don't think you understand how difficult and complex it is to build a route.

So you're saying dtg should charge $40 or whatever the price will be, to only create a generic looking piece of long route but compromise everything else regarding the actual trains and timetable? That's what it sounds like since you said you don't care about those? Really for the price we are paying, they shouldn't compromise one area just to focus on one specific thing, in your case route length

I don't need a train simulator to run an entire network to produce a route, I want a representation of driving the route, I didn't buy Train Sim World Manager, I didn't want to run the entire network, I bought it to drive the trains. As I'm guessing if they are blatantly truthful did most of the people that bought the product, they bought it to drive the trains, not to run a network.

The point of train sim world is to drive real routes and licensed trains from different parts of the world. It's called a simulator for a reason. Whenever things aren't correct in a route, you see how angry people get in the forums. If there's inaccuracies, then people will call the devs incompetent and lazy. If you can't accept that tsw is a realistic/authentic rail simulator, then I don't think this game is for you. It's not called fictional train simulator.

I bought it cos I like trains

But joking aside, I also like to use it as a fancy screensaver, after a fashion. I work from home and I find having the telly on in the background distracts me, but having it switched off does my productivity no favours. My work-time combo occasionally then, is radio on in the background on a low volume, and TSW fired up riding as a passenger on a long service, sometimes with the passenger seat cam, sometimes with the flying camera. Does it boost productivity? Probably not, but it sure makes the day go faster

lol, chill and ride, yeah that's probably not improving the productivity, but if it's keeping the mind on the straight and level, worth every second.

It's also not a fully realistic interpretation either, It is called a train simulator, but it is not called a train network simulator. The major issue on here with DTG if we are honest is how they are happy to deal with sound and paint issues, before dealing with actual game issue, just ask anyone how long the issues took to sort out on the London Commuter route with the fast lane scenario. As you say it is a train simulator, not a train route simulation manager.

People that use the “no one wants to drive a longer route” argument aren’t necessarily true. You can have a long route with a variety of servics. You can have anything from 10 minute services to 2 hour services on a 100 mile route. And station wise might be the only fair thing but really and truly if a full ecml was to be added (example), it would really be station intensive around the area south of peterborough, but in general it’s just dtg tbh they don’t want to do long routes, would love a long UK route tbh. But i’m all for longer routes in 2023, even if they are only 70-90 miles

Excellent points here the only way this can be done is merging them later on using the Common origin points system. For a longer route it must use Common Origin point system

Yes it would be good to have longer routes, what I would prefer to see though is routes joining up to other routes, so take GWR for example, a route that starts at Reading and goes to say, Bristol and then joins up so you could in effect go from Bristol to London, or the BCC having a route tagged on such as bromsgrove to gloucester/Cheltenham etc and joining up the routes we already have to form a network of sorts.

I used to love that rally game from the late 90s when you got 25 or 30 mile stages across Northumberland, mid Wales or southern Scotland. But the last few rally games I purchased had short generic courses and cars with questionable physics.

Back to TSW we all want to see longer or more complex routes but hey, they can't even run the forthcoming new Steam route another 10 miles to the closest major railway centre, Derby.

OT, but if you fancy a decent rally game, have a look at the Dirt series (numbered, not Dirt Rally), I think they lean fairly hard in the realism direction

I want to see longer routes, for example I would have loved the new MML to have been longer as well as the new steam route. However if it meant very generic stations and landscape which differ very little from each other then it wouldn't be for me.

Still OT, but I did get that old Rally Championship (Magnetic Fields) to work. You have to faff about with CPU affinity settings after starting the game, but it's still a classic - particularly trying to finish the latter part of each individual rally with half a gearbox!

dtg can do it, but don’t want to do it - i’d love them to add longer routes, especially british ones, trains like the hst are made for 100 + mile routes and we are driving it on 30 mile routes… i hope when JT and ATS starts making routes they do it to a more lengthy standard… dtg have shown they can make longer routes on tsc and tsw

Edinburgh Waverley to Aberdeen I think would be a good scenic route also, what longer routes would others like to see?

Leeds to Carlisle would be one, Shrewsbury through to Pwllheli (preferably in the 1950's), Euston to Liverpool (preferably 1980's). A good chunk of the cross country route, maybe Birmingham to Paignton or Newcastle to Birmingham. Newcastle to Liverpool, Crewe to Cardiff, Waterloo to Exeter/Weymouth.

I could go on, sadly probably a pipe dream certainly for the next few years. However routes got longer in TSC so maybe it isn't impossible.

That looks cool, don't know it, but I presume there are a load of station on that route, maybe we'll have to go with more rural routes at firt to get the distance without all the extra stations for them to actually make a much longer route.

I think the best bet would be Scottish lines for any U.K. based longer routes at first, as you could get the longer distances without a massive amount of stations due to the large rural areas between the major cities.

Changing locations here, but I'd like to see one or more of the Amtrak routes from Chicago into Michigan, the Wolverine to Detroit, the Pere Marquette to Grand Rapids and the Blue Water to Port Huron.

Would Canadian routes be easier to achieve, I assume they have large rural areas as well, which could facilitate the extra miles without a huge amount of stations, not really up to speed on the North American routes, even some of the more rural U.S. routes don't seem anywhere near long enough at present, especially with the increased prices for the DLC now.

One of my childhood memories and the theme tune wasn't bad either.
I still have a bash on it every now and then on my A600+ and have the codes somewhere to unlock all the tracks plus the hidden duck shooting gallery game.

I disagree that TSW isn't "about that"
TSW is about providing a relevant experience over a given route, and if those routes are around 60-90 minutes for the longest drives on the route (usually the stoppers) then this is what they go for
Unfortunately what people who make these posts seem to want hours long runs at high speed and "forget the local stuff... don't care"
There are people who do care...

Maybe if Simrail don't care about accuracy or making sure things are at least accurate in outline then that software may be better...

Liverpool to Birmingham is only 78 miles, the only reason they wouldn’t add it is because of the sheer number of stations
