I came across a old review for TSW2020 original NEC:NEW YORK route and it was claimed locomotives on this route brokedown frequently,so was this really a thing or just players who didn't understand how trains work? If it was real was it a random programed in game breakdown or just a technical issues with engines on this route.
I never experienced any kind of breakdown or anything similar on NEC: NY. The route had issues, a lot of them even, but this wasn't one of them, and it definitely wasn't a programmed feature or anything.
It was due to how the brake of the acs64 was flipped. It went from release to initial to suppression 100% to the actual suppression you needed to acknowledge when reducing speed and then went up to 100% until full brake. So I guess it confused lots of people when it said suppression from 100% to 65% when in reality, they had to take the handle down all the way to 65% where the real suppression is. Imagine being told to put the brakes into suppression but it says suppression after initial. It gets confusing. The brake handle was flipped into the right position in the new acs64 in Boston sprinter where it goes from release to initial, 1% to suppression to 100% so it's much more clear and less confusing. If that makes sense.
So what this simply means is the acs64 brakes are broken or just not correctly set up while trying to use them.
It's just one of the notches of brakes you can have in an American loco. Most trains in the US have Released, Initial Braking, 0-100%, Suppression, Handle Off and then Emergency. This isn't the case in all trains, especially the ACS-64 which has it's Suppression notch about mid way between 0-100%, but that's all it is.
When acses or atc tells you to reduce your speed, you're required to put your brakes into suppression until you get below the speed otherwise it'll apply the emergency brake. In freight locomotives, it's just another brake notch
I installed this game and route yesterday to see what it looked like and the ACS had the brakes working as expected so I suppose it was fixed with a patch at a later date.
I found one other possible problem with another loco on this route it was suggested that the GP38 on the route also can breakdown randomly. So was it every a issue or might it have been fixed at some point as well?
