Youre AWESOME! But..... As a New Yorker, i gotta tell you, Long Islanders pronounce it "Lurr" (LIRR) Lurrrrrrrrr! er. like "her"
You should visit Tucson where taking the "Sun Link" trams is more colloquially known as riding the Community Link Integrated Transit of Tucson.
That is the first time I've heard a colloquialism that is longer than the actual thing it's describing. Do people not call it CLITT?
Not sure what new yorkers call it Lurrr. I never heard anyone call it lurrrr and I say that as a new yoker who uses the railroad
In eastern Queens and on LI, Its called the Lirr (lurr). Trust me. In all of my decades here, its common on this end of the city and on the island.
could be a generational thing. Ive been hearing it all through my childhood and tens well into my 30s. im 45 now. Lot of fam near the port wash line in Queens, I live in Southeast Queens, Co-workers from far east Queens called it that, and many many people i know from LI. Im also a frequent rider and former commuter.
I used go to Sunny Farmindale in the mid 90s never heard it called LURR but like they said might be called that now…… either way we can all agree that DTG needs to bring the LURR to its proper form and be the busiest railroad in the US. If that means an extension, M9 loco, diesel, let’s get it done please
first the need to bring the signaling up to par as its TSC counterpart. to be honest, I think its more of a Nassau and surrounding thing (eastern queens included). Boss is from valley stream, Lurr. Former manager from Little Neck queens, Lurr, everyone around my aunt in bayside, lurr, Freeport....you get it. LOL As for an extension, i would mind the SEHS treatment and adding Grand Central and the Far Rockaway branch. Good amount of grade crossing still on the Far Rock. And its a GC line come monday
