The class 142 pacer in 1989 2 tone blue and white livery as an add-on for tees valley line. Another train option instead of the class 101 line for tees valley to simulate what it would be like decades ago. This also is has automatic transmission similar to the class 150, and could also include a working guard function on this service.I also think two variants such as the newer pacer with bus like doors and the older provincial pacer doors. I think this in game would be amazing!
Why not make it 1989 paint that way it can simply add more service patterns to do existing version present-day version this is likely to be Northern Rail with Capability to run Northern Rail Trans Pennine Main Line the Calder Valley Line
Welcome to the forums, as driverwoods#1787 was saying, I think a Pacer with a livery for the era would be preferred, see my suggestion below for info : The British Rail Class 142 For Tees Valley Line: Darlington-Saltburn
Does this use the same gear system as a br 101 or does it operate with a more standard control system?
Pacers are a good suggestion, however the chocolate/cream livery was use in Devon and Cornwall on the Western Region as a nod to former GWR days. The correct livery for the North East was provincial 2 tone blue and white with orange/brown used in the Manchester area by Manchester PTE. As for the gearbox, it works similarly to a automatic gearbox rather than manual shifting.
