I totally agree with you there. I play a lot of my routes and having to install and uninstall is frustrating...
Possibly mentioned already. Acela on the Boston route aren’t set up to show the proper off route destination. Fine for the ones headed to Boston because that’s the terminus anyway. But the ones going the other direction show their destination as Providence at the station PIS and on train PIS. Should be Washington DC. Also when you get to Providence the station PIS says “terminates here” which is incorrect since the Acela would always continue. The other Amtrak trains (ACS-64) show the proper off route destinations. Also the Acelas on Trenton show the proper off route destinations. So the issue is mainly southbound Acela on Boston route.
Finally got home from vacation and had a chance to dive into Trenton. Started with a service mode run of NJT Train 3736 (Jersey Ave. to New York Penn during the evening rush). The good: Scenery, station modeling, everything (especially the newly constructed portions south of Newark Airport) looks AMAZING. I grew up in the New Brunswick area and I am incredibly familiar with every station on the line. My jaw dropped at the accuracy of things like the Edison parking lots, the Metropark staircases, the Elizabeth parking garage...it's all stunning. I think the lighting, including in the tunnels, is SUPERB. Give me that kind of tunnel lighting over the old kind ANY day. The trains that exist in the timetabled services all seem to be accurate, and they're where they're supposed to be at the right times. The not-so-good: Scenery on the recycled portion (from the original TSW 2020 route) looks drab by comparison. For what it's worth, I would have advised DTG to take the extra time to rework this portion to be on par with everything else. There were a few errors in my scheduled tasks on Train 3736, at least according to the public NJT timetables. I should have had a few more minutes to get to Secaucus, for example. The most important thing that I discovered: While most of the pathing of my train was accurate, there were a few places where the pathing was off from real-world practice, and I think this is impacting the ATC/signaling experience. As has been well-documented, there are certainly issues with the signal progressions, slowing you down too much, too soon, and even throwing some Restricting cab signals into the mix where they shouldn't be. I encountered all of that---it's especially bad in the tunnels approaching New York from NJ. But there are also signals that are behaving mostly appropriately but are guiding you towards paths that slow you down unnecessarily. Three examples from this run: Approaching Rahway, I was routed from track 1 to track A at the beginning of Union interlocking, and was slowed to 45 well in advance of the move. But in real life, Northeast Corridor trains would stay on track 1 until the crossover AT the Rahway station platform. This is a 30mph crossover, instead of a 45mph diverging move, but because you're slowing for the station stop anyway, it has much less impact on your timekeeping, and the signal progression can start later. 95% of eastbound NJT trains use Track 1 at Newark Penn, not Track A. Trains cross from 1 to, uh, "station" 1 at the last crossover before the platforms begin. Again, track speed here is 35mph, so the 30mph crossover isn't a big hit, but the ATC progression shouldn't start too far out. I was routed to Secaucus Junction Track A via a crossover from Track 1 just before the station platforms, then routed back to Track 1 immediately after. If I had just stayed on Track 1 for the station stop, I would have had clear signals all the way, instead of a progression dropping me to 45mph well in advance of the crossover. Generally speaking, NJT trains that stop on Track A would have been routed to it (the middle of the three track main) just after the Portal Bridge, and this wouldn't happen at all during the P.M. rush. So while it is certainly true that there are some ATC/signaling bugs to iron out, some updates to the paths trains take would also help both the realism and, presumably, the engineer's experience vis a vis signals and the signal progressions. DTG Alex and/or DTG JD, is there any way I can assist with helping to re-program some of the schedule and paths? Are there user-accessible files for an experienced player to make these kinds of changes?
I posted a number of issues in the Technical reports section of the forums, where I think this thread belongs. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...y-systems-not-restored-after-game-save.65444/ https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/boston-line-timetable-issue.65355/ https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/boston-line-floating-poster.65356/ I think you DTG people really should be more consistent in where to report bugs.
I have noticed a lack of run sounds in the cab of the F40PH. Earlier I wasn't getting any sounds at all, it was quieter than an electric loco, this was after freeroaming for a while then deciding to have a drive. This was the 8:21 Boston to Stoughton. When I restarted the service I got engine sounds but no run sounds in the cab.
Hello, tonight I drove the 17:43 ACS-64 departure from Trenton to NY Penn (listed as the 17:41 Miami - NY Silver Star). I arrived at Newark Penn at 18:12...it was scheduled for 18:26. I was taking my time driving. I ended the run at this point as I didn't want to hang out at Newark Penn for 14 minutes.
I noticed on the Acela 2160 service from Providence to Boston, I seemed to be following a local MBTA the whole time and was not routed around it at any sidings. There was padding in schedule so I was close to on time, but the real world schedule for 2160 does not have this padding and arrives roughly 15 minutes earlier at Boston South Station. Maybe the MBTA schedule is slightly different than the real one but it seemed like there was ample opportunity to pass this train after leaving Providence.
I've encountered another really wacky signal progression while driving NJT 3720 Jersey Avenue - NY Penn between Newark International Airport Track A and Newark Penn Track 1. The service enters Newark Airport under advance approach and approach medium 45 cab signal and everything made sense so far. When you approach Newark Penn however, ATC goes up and down all over the place and of course there is the non conformity between cab and fixed signals everywhere as well. When leaving Newark Airport with ATC approach medium: (fixed) Approach Limited & (ATC) Approach Medium 45 -> (fixed) Limited Clear & (ATC) Approach Medium 45 -> (fixed) Approach Limited & (ATC) Approach 30 -> (ATC) Restricting 20 -> (fixed) Limited Clear & (ATC) Approach 30 -> (ATC) Restricting 20 At this point, the service goes through a set of switches with speed limit 30, so I feel that the fixed signal right before the interlocking should have been Medium Clear instead of Limited Clear. Anyway, after the interlocking we continue into Newark Penn with (fixed) Clear & (ATC) Restricting. Then at the end of the platform at Newark Penn the signal displays two vertical greens with a flashing white in the middle. I'm not sure what that is supposed to be, Limited Clear maybe? Through that signal ATC is still at Restricting. Continuing on: (fixed) Medium Clear & (ATC) Approach 30 -> (ATC) Restricting 20 -> (fixed) Clear & (ATC) Clear I checked throughout that there were no other services in front of me. Here is a video showing the whole thing:
Furthermore, DTG made Trenton AT NIGHT look like a safe haven. The game is rated E for everyone after all. Let's say it was an inaccuracy that made me giggle, I appreciate it
I notice the same thing on LIRR. In both cases, (especially on LIRR) it's not uncommon to route a faster train around a slower train on a 2 track main. It'll take a good deal of coordination, but it's not impossible. That said, I don't think it's something DTG will invest in. Idk what goes into building these games and programming the AI, paths, etc. I could see that happening in a scenario, but I don't think DTG will make that a regular occurence in the the timetable services.
I always found it odd how some services give you 30 seconds to travel 5 miles (I'm exaggerating) while others as you mentioned include dwell times in excess of 10 minutes.
A few things I have noticed on Sherman Hill: Snow kick up happens even at low snow levels, when the tracks is not yet covered in snow. What is being kicked up? I suppose I don't even have to mention how silly the effect looks with a long consists like an US freight train, being a white band along the sides. Though this is simply a TSW3 core issue, not related to Sherman Hill or TOD4. The cloud layer abruptly end at "sea level", which is an issue with long descent/ascent route with open scenery, like Sherman Hill or Cajon Pass. The problem is that the volumetric clouds are all in one height, while the route is at a constant gradient, so if you look downwards, the sky and the terrain never meet. Though again, this is not Sherman Hill specific, but a TOD4 issue in general. In snowy settings, freight cars that use custom liveries appear completely white, covered in snow. This is the first time I ever saw this on any route.
I was super excited when I heard about this route and I still love playing this route obsessively lol but I do have some suggestions that I have seen, I already knew I was going to be a little critical about this route only because I know it so well lol there is not enough representation of NJTransit services, there are constant trains coming in and out of New York during rush hour in the mornings and afternoons to evenings running all the way down to Trenton, and vice verse trains, coming in and out of Trenton, and running to New York. Express, semi-express and local trains The passenger lights on the NJTRANSIT trains are not on during the day, they should be on at all times not only at night The AI traffic should be a little more heavy during the rush hour times. There is a NJTRANSIT maintenance facility, right outside of Newark Penn, with no kind of New Jersey transit, AI traffic, or even things sitting in the yard. There should be some type of representation of CSX freight along the route, even if it’s just freight cars sitting on sidings When driving the metroliner cab car, the marker lights on the engine in the back should be on, but you can’t turn them on.
Another Multi-level issue I'm experiencing, precipitation buildup on the windows as minimal to none. I haven't been able to nail down the specific cause chains, but I have noticed instances where the Acela tilting can be stuck on one side or the other, and this could be car specific, so one or two cars could be tilted one direction the others level or tilted the opposite direction going down straight track
For #6, enter the ACS-64's "B" End and turn the marker light on. It's next to the door, where the ACSES, Alerter Cut Out, and related items are located. The marker lights are for the opposite side of the locomotive, hence why the "B" end would work for the Keystone running in "Push" operation in TSW3.
I had a problem with the “Heritage Help Out” scenario I was in the Katy shutting it down after hooking to the other engine. It prompted me to put the reverser in neutral and take it out. I accidentally took it out before putting it in neutral. I couldn’t insert it and couldn’t progress. I made the mistake but the game should either not let me take it out if it’s not in neutral or allow me to put it back in. I think in real life I wouldn’t be able to take it out if it’s not in neutral
A few other things on Boston Sprinter I noticed on tonight's run. With night services starting at Providence in the MBTA cab car, you are greeted with these light reflections in the cab, as seen on the second screenshot. The lights inside the cab are completely white as a void when turned on. I would expect a bit more natural texture to them. The speedometer's lit up texture is pixelated and has artifacts, looks like a heavily compressed JPEG file. The in-cab signalling's lowest light shows up as completely white . At night, certain stations are quite dark. I believe I took this screenshot at Attleboro station and there are station lights that are not turned on at all.
Another issue, I can't find it easily with a search, but not sure if anyone has mentioned the catenary south of New Brunswick is wrong. It's the constant tension style like Boston - Providence with the back and forth sweeping. Doubt this one will get fixed, but it's a pretty obvious blunder if they are running 150mph speed limits.
I’m surprised no-one else seems to find the external sounds off for the Acela?? It seems really tinny and quiet and like the ambient sounds have priority over the train running sounds…
Idk if it’s just me or what but when driving the Acela the coaches of the Acela sets seem to have little to no sound at all when the train goes past you in free cam. It’s very dumb to not have any sound for cars of the Acela that was highly anticipated but still come on DTG. Another thing the paragraphs for most of AI trains are not then up…? This makes it a very unrealistic play thru. Even when you’re driving a Keystone Service either the Pantograph is in the wrong direction or it’s just down. Like dude.. I’m paying almost 80$ for this route add on and the Acela and this is the quality it’s in? just wow honestly I’m starting to believe this was a cash grab smh.
Impossible gold on the “dust or bust” scenario I had 45 points in speed deductions and scored 6395 gold medal is 7100. I don’t understand why such basic things are not vetted before release. It’s frustrating to drive prototypicslly (with one mess up entering Laramie) for two hours to find it’s impossible to get a gold medal
Not the most important bug. I see far to many people having an umbrella. In real life I guess not more than 10% of the passengers would have one. (The same holds for the caps, far to many caps). The other pic shows a woman in the snow, not really dressed for the weather. I though under circumstances like this the passengers would be dressed properly. I also still see passengers looking away from the platform (did not make a screenshot) and other people at this forum show people on tracks. So the passenger system is still bugged. This is not specific for the Boston-Providence route.
After about a week of playing here is my feedback: Updated Boston: New sky is a big improvement as per other routes. It would be a good candidate for a preservation crew MK.II style update to all older routes. It improves the game so much, just single handed makes dawn and dusk the best times of day to play the game. Signaling seems to work more logically now, haven't been thrown off by anything as yet. The mis-match with the original timetable timings is annoying but the delays are not so grave it has stopped me getting golds. New lighting for the most part works, it hasn't changed the route drastically but as with the TSW3 routes, it feels a little less flat than before. That said the tunnel lighting hasn't improved, perhaps it is just because the trains are all silver and reflective so it exacerbates the light baking issues but externally half the train still tends to glow when entering the tunnel and the darkening effect doesn't take place until far too late into the tunnels. Acela: The train model, sounds, the way it drives, the amount of clickable buttons... It can go head to head with with BR 101 any day, it is fantastic. Real hairs on the back of your neck stuff when two pass each other at high speed. The tilting mechanism is amazing, at speed in corners this thing is a joy to watch from outside, or from inside as a passenger. Cruise control is virtually useless if the conditions are snowy or very wet, it applies max throttle regardless of the throttle setting and this makes it pretty difficult not to wheel slip even at higher speeds. On Boston-Providence - Very good addition, for the most part it is more interesting northbound than southbound because of southbound trains crossing at Canton junction causing adverse signals on the northbound run, but there are some exceptions where you are held behind a train on the Southbound run, and at least one where the train ahead is finally held in a station for you to pass by. These moments are very good. On Boston-Providence - The 20 services do add to the timetables and make it feel moreorless 'complete'. The route south of Canton Junction feels comparatively quiet but with the Acela at least you are traversing it at 150mph. On New York-Trenton - Personally my fav place to drive the Acela, it just feels more of an event, it's a straight route for the most part so you can stay at high speeds for longer and it feels like you've run more of a complete journey. On New York-Trenton - The 40 services are well spaced out and normally it means any journey you take on the line as far south as Rahway will mean an encounter with an Acela either coming against you or overtaking you if you're running an NJT service. On New York-Trenton - Being overtaken by an Acela at full pelt is SOMETHING. By itself it half justifies buying the route if you already have Acela, it really does create some of the best moments on the line. NY - Trenton: TLDR summary: This is the US version of GWE and Munich-Augsburg. Disappointing timetable, amazing route. The lower volume of services is partially offset by the variety those services have, and the way they interact with one another, and the overall quality of the locos and rolling stock goes some way to making this a fairly easy-to-enjoy route in spite of its issues. A lot of the criticism I have seen conflates two distinct things: bugs originating from unintended issues or error (pantographs lowered on AI, AI without, some signaling issues), with the scope and intentional implementation of the route (re-used low quality scenery assets in NY, clipping of scenery, timetable). This conflation leads to the usual everything is awful reaction. The bugs seem about on point with most other TSW releases, which is to say, that post-first patch is when it starts becoming clear what will or will not be fixed. Stuff like AI pantographs and lights should be an easy fix, even the missing catenary, apparently there in other builds, shouldn't be a tough fix. Signaling issues, let's see, that's a combination of having to resolve an obviously wrong outcome, with understanding the signaling system itself enough to understand why it is happening and how to change it, that can take, as we saw with Boston, potentially years. The shortcomings of the implementation of the route are well documented I won't dwell too much. Personally the clipping of platforms is something I can live with. On the other hand the clipping of columns is much harder to ignore and it's disappointing when you do see it, as it's such an obvious candidate for a historic mistake to be fixed when revisiting a route such as this. The timetable is lackluster but as ever, not as good as it could be does not mean BAD. It just means it does not fulfil its potential, but there is plenty of fun to be had with what is there, same as GWE, same as Mun-Aug. On the timetable: Acela is absolutely necessary to give the route some life. The morning rush hour is not bad for the game, obviously not like real life, but in terms of a dose of queues, or seeing trains come and go as you traverse the route, it's good enough, and although the afternoon rush hour doesn't seem to hit the same tempo it's the only other time of day worth focusing on. Middle of the day does feel dead on the main route, but Penn itself sees continuous use as there are numerous empty stock moves utilizing Sunnyside Yard which gives you something else to do. For the moment I am avoiding the dead heads to Sunnyside hoping the catenary re-appears soonish. Given it is not a busy timetable, it does do well to create some very nice moments. Being overtaken when you're in an NJT train is something to really enjoy, even pelting along at 100mph in a semi-fast NJT service won't stop you being eaten up by Amtrak and it is the single best thing about the line, that you can experience that with a decent variety of rolling stock (and sure, being overtaken by other trains is something that happens 100x more on BML, but getting overtaken by a different version of an Electrostar is NOTHING to being overtaken by a 150mph Acela. It is what it is.). Because the Amtrak volumes are relatively true to life, you get a good experience of trains back and forth on the fast lines and the amount of time it can take to go the whole route on an NJT service means by pure process of taking so much time, you'll see a lot of Amtrak services. But when driving Amtrak, the lack of the local NJT stoppers is a let down, you'll always overtake something, but the slow lines seem very quiet. The rolling stock on this route is fantastic, it's all high quality, sounds mostly great, it is a joy to watch them go by, and in the busier moments there is something special about seeing numerous trains running alongside one another, or joining the mainline from branches and you drive by. In the scenarios where the LIRR stock is in Penn, it is hardly game-changing as it is completely static, but still, better there than not so if it could be accommodated in the timetable, it would help pad out the other half of the station which whilst occasionally hidden from immediate view when at the platform, always becomes clearly visible when you leave, or on arrival. After NY Penn, Newark Penn is probably the station that feels the lack of AI traffic the most. The double whammy of not having the PATH trains which are fairly frequent, with the lack of NJT traffic means it looks quite sad a lot of the time. Route quality overall conveys the line's 'feel' of the transition from a big urban area into the 'burbs, the replication of the line itself, with all its bridges, overpasses, and underpasses, the (empty) yards, the sections when it's basically 6 tracks wide, or the sections when it narrows to 'only' 4 tracks, all give the impression of a mainline travelling through a densely populated part of the US. This is why I think it sits alongside GWE for example, it feels like a mainline, and it drives like one too. The let down is simply the lack of traffic to build on that very solid foundation. Leaving the modelling of NY Penn and the lack of a distant NY skyline to one side, the scenery is pretty good overall, it compares well with Harlem for example, and imo is much better than LIRR. As it stands I don't use the safety systems on Southbound runs because something, covered in detail in bug reports elsewhere, keeps triggering a penalty break when emerging from the tunnels into NJ, there does not appear to be a workaround except to turn off the safety systems, as even driving below the speed limit does not save you from receiving the penalty. The scenarios really are quite boring. Seriously time and again: "timetable run, but with weather" is not a scenario! Or the classic "engineering work means you will encounter a single odd thing about your 1hr run and everything else will be as usual" is not very engaging. Try something more fun. Was it by accident or design that the chances of any NJT service you pass being headed by a cab car is about 2:1 in favor of the cab car? There definitely feels like a bias and it'd be good to know if it's just the way the timetable worked out or it's deliberate. To end on my original comparison with GWE and Mun-Aug, NYT ultimately shares their drawbacks, but also what keeps them engaging despite those drawbacks, and why I still enjoy replaying them so much. I hope NYT gets additional services from somewhere, but for now I'll look forward to the patch solving some immediate issues and then see what if anything the future has in store.
Are you on console? HMA with all layers active is fine with regard to traffic. But as a route- not so amazing. A-B, straight and flat.
As to the Heritage package - I had suggested to be offered as a special package around almost 2 years ago, between other ones -, which finally arrived, then I purchased from the launch day, I am really disappointed! In my case I have a strange situation! 3 locomotives looks almost Ok - Katy / Rio Grande / Missouri Pacific, with just some small issues on other colors not related to the paint scheme! But the other 3 looks awful! They have blurred lines all around and other issues!. I have never seen on all my trains and routes TSW locomotives textures or even freight cars or passenger wagons never had such issue! Even the UP regular scheme looks as it has to be. But this ones are awful! This is not acceptable at all! It is just a paint scheme, so it might not be a difficult issue. Considering all the experience DTG has about it. Do not forget we are paying just for paint schemes. Then they must be right! Sorry I have no pictures today, but I will share them by tomorrow! Hopes DTG solves this issue soon!
They get worse once you look a bit closer, the KATY unit has some odd issues with textures going complete black in shadows, the DRGW unit becomes almost chrome when looked at a certain angle. I posted lots of photos of these issues awhile back in this thread. EDIT: Page 3.
Must admit I'm not very impressed with the painting. I did buy the pack, but mostly for the extra gameplay. For me, $15 isn't a lot for 6 new scenarios.
We definitely need more representation of New Jersey transit services, there are services close to leaving New York Penn station in the afternoon during rush hour like every 15 minutes, this thing can be said about Trenton New Jersey in the morning rush-hour, also the service is coming out of New York Penn or going all the way down to Trenton instead of Jersey Avenue express service semi express and local service Oh so the lights in the passenger cars should be on and all times, but they are doing well during the day in the game.
A few more Trenton nit-picks/notes: Rear pantographs should be raised on the ALP-46 when in push mode. Pathing, pathing, pathing...while driving NJT service 3959 I saw an eastbound Acela pull into Newark Penn on track 3 (!!)...during the evening rush...no no no no no. Eastbound Amtrak services will sometimes use track 1 at Newark, but never 3. Also, as has been previously reported, this service ends with an arrival into track 4 at Trenton right behind a Keystone. Why not arrive on track 5? Amfleet Northeast Regional cafe cars are numbered 433xx, not 481xx. 481xx are the split cafe/business class cars that run on other service routes. BTW, TREMENDOUS attention to detail with the Acela Express road numbers matching the existing trainset configurations. Well done! Would still love to get my hands on a pathing and timetable editor for the game. This route is so close to being outrageously good...!
I'm sorry DTG!! It's been 6 months since I bought a DLC given the bad feedback I read here and on the web. Yes the social networks will have your skin by dint of having bad grades, be sure that in the eyes of the community you are not a very good company. Anyway, I went back to train simulator classic and got back to work, I can at least modify or create routes on TCS, even if it's not very good either. It lags much less, has longer routes, more equipment, REAL QDs... etc etc I had high hopes on TSW1, just as much on TSW2 but none on TSW3. Everything that is currently coming out is getting worse and worse, lags and jerks of sickness! bad graphics, it's UE4 and it looks like UE 1!!! The patches take forever to arrive when they arrive of course. The clinchfield always has a whole tile without grass!!! A year, a year has passed and you don't care! You sink yourself with that kind of attitude. In France, a very large majority of us no longer buy anything on TSW3. I know very well that you don't care about France but you could have the same problem with the USA!!! I'm ready to pay 35 euros when it's good and not finished when it's [Removed - Alex - Language] Yes it's LOVE, have you seen the staggering number of bugs on this DLC? Do you really have a quality service or is it wind? You make fun of the world and you are going to pay dearly for it, when you have a handful of fans left you will no longer be able to live from your work! It's not by releasing DLC every month that you're going to get away with it, people have a brain, they don't forget current and past [Removed - Alex - Language]. So sorry to tell you that TSW3 is dead to me until further notice, until you finally wake up from your [Removed - Alex - Language]! At 35 euro I no longer want to play with my nerves and support you, I am no longer a DTG fan today. Today you lost a loyal customer.
This is unfortunately very common, I don't understand how they have so little imagination. In Creators Club there are some very fun scenarios built by community members, considering the huge limitations of the current planner, and instead DTG, which has full access to the tools and could design amazing things, mainly just builds scenarios with simple A to B runs and very little additional AI traffic.
It seems unlikely that you can speak for an entire country. We heard at one point that LGV was among the most-played routes.
Quite a few on here forget they are speaking for themselves and assume everyone is thinking the same as them.
I mean, if you are in a local country specific train sinulator group, it's not hard to see what people play mostly. For example, I am in hungarian train simulator group and barely anyone plays TSW. Everyone is stuck with Trainz and TSC there, barely do I see any TSW posts.
True I guess, but not everyone is necessarily playing and joining in with those forums and groups. I am sure us on here are a very small proportion of TSW users.
"Sorry I have no pictures today, but I will share them by tomorrow!" I have the pictures as mentioned. The wheels are mid black and mid gray Please notice the diagonal lines corresponding to the WP, on the CNW! Ridiculous!
Ny bound trains almost exclusively to 1 or 2 trenton bound trains almost exclusively to 3 and 4 track 5 is rvl only track a is only used if there is a bottleneck in the station there are very rare exceptions
Others Red colors appear on the truck Please notice the "star". From some distance a darker area appears! Red colors on areas on a blue scheme!
Other issue is about "lights" First... you have a light but not the "source" does not appear. The one with the source light is the regular UP SD70ACE
The headlights looks smaller on size when on. So after all those pictures, where you can see is a package just based on painting and liveries, they looks really bad! What is strange - as you can see - not all locomotives are looking really bad. Mostly the WP, SP and CNW ones!. The other ones KATY / RG and MP only have minor issues. The KATY has the star dark effect inside as showed at some distance only. But these ones looks too shiny! Some dirty effect must be added for more real appearance - even considering they are not new - today - like the one on the others with regular UP scheme. As mentioned I have lot of routes - I started with TSW2020!, then lot of trains, and all looks fine. These are the only ones looking bad! Hopes this be fixed soon!
