Question On Route Editing (solved)

    Hi,

I'm just about to fix the speed limits on Hamburg - Hannover. (Always changing between 200 / 160, resulting in permanent LZB accelerating and braking). I know there's 3rd party enhanced versions, but I just like to have a correct tracks.bin for the classic route.

According to openrailwaymap.org, the southbound line has a consistent limit of 200 between Lüneburg and Hannover. Northbound you have full speed from Hannover through to Winsen (Luhe).

Now my issue is, how do you edit long stretches of track? I'm always losing the ribbon marker when moving along the map and have to move back to the starting point to grab it again.

Any hints how to achieve this without having to do it in many small sections?

Edit: I found it works when you're flying very low above the track. :) Catenary can be a real hassle in the editor...

Work in Progress (I'm deliberately working on lowest GFX settings when in route editor to avoid crashes)

That's the way I do it too, a pita but it works.

Works perfectly if you just fly along the track above the ground :)

    Southbound already finished (Hamburg > 160 > Lüneburg > 200 > Hannover)

Until you get to a crossover and it decides to go off on its own little adventure or your mouse catches your keyboard and makes you release your finger off the mouse button. :D:D

So I'm not the only one hitting the keyboard :) :). Yeah be careful when going over junctions.

Finally blasting through to Hannover with my new 3DZug ICE1 as in real life :).

Those speed changes were especially annoying driving the BR103 - now it's fun! Just need to remove the speed signs (a "20" sign does not exist in RL)

When I wish to change a route I rename the Scenery folder to SceneryX and I rename the lofts.bin file lofts.binX
The OHLE seems to be part of the track on this route so it still appears :(

I move the Scenery Quality, Density, Shadow and Water sliders to the left - haven't thought of this trick to be free from scenery for fast editing of tracks. Thanks Peter!

If the wires are part of the track it won't get in the way of the selection tool although - was about to say I rename the folders (so loft tiles folders) - but you had beaten me to that :).

Although another thing that i do that is useful - is set the tracks.bin to "read only" it blocks saving or making "accidental changes" to the track :)

@torfmeister so it was you that commented on my merged route from years ago ;)

Yes it was me. I'm of do-it-yourself dexterity and double-glazing skill ;)

When changes are made, I'm packing the modified Network\tracks.bin into its own .ap to keep it safe and to make clear what it's about, like naming it "TrackSpeedFix.ap".

I mean i have asked for an "unfinal" button but sadly unlikely anytime soon. (just so that i don't have to delete and re-upload)

"Unfinal" - nice word :D - would make "Final" somehow useless wouldn't it :)

True - but more of to allow the route to be updated ;)

But then, there's good reason. If you change the route you'd probably render a lot of scenarios unusable (by lowering speed limits for example, scenarios that rely on timings could then be broken.) By uploading a new version and keeping the old, all old scenarios are sure to work.

I can already see, using the updated tracks, in many scenarios there's traffic you encounter earlier as supposed, just standing around on the tracks. No unfinal :). New scenarios :D

In my case it's more to fix missed game breaking stuff ;) like a missed broken track and similar :)

Equally though you can make speed changes in the scenario :).

Ooops, just derailed my BR103 TEE, should have checked openrailwaymap closer and reinstate the 130 limit through Uelzen :)
