    Hello everyone,

We know you’ve been waiting patiently, but we’re excited to finally announce that Add-ons Manager will be releasing for PS5 players tomorrow, Tuesday 28th February, at 10:00am UTC, and other platforms will be following shortly.

Read our Add-ons Manager announcement on our website.

    Addons Manager is Here Thumbnail.png

    What is Add-ons Manager?
Add-ons Manager is a bespoke solution we’ve developed that will allow you to play all your Train Sim World add-ons without worrying about add-on size limits. It will exist in the technical back-end side of your system, which will mean there isn’t an interface or anything you need to activate - It simply allows the content you want to play to be ‘mounted’ before starting each game session, bypassing the 64 GB limit that is imposed by Sony for add-ons on PlayStation 5.

It will also have a positive impact on your consoles's performance, predominantly with a reduction in the number of crashes, and also bring memory improvements when multiple add-ons are installed. The most impact will be seen by players on 8th-gen consoles when playing with lots of add-ons.

As a side note, with this change we will be disabling background Add-ons installations, so players will need to restart their game session to see any new content that has been downloading in the background.

    What About Other Platforms?
As an update on when other platforms will receive Add-ons Manager, below is our current roll-order:
    • PS5 - (Tuesday, February 28th at 10:00am UTC)
    • PS4 - (Wednesday, March 29th at 16:00pm)
    • Xbox - TBC* (Xbox One and Series S/X)
    • PC - TBC*
*We do not currently have dates for these platforms as we are still testing them, but we will share news on these as soon as we are able to.

    The Impact On Different Platforms?
I've added in this section to have share some clarity for the benefit that different platforms will see due to this implementation.

    PS5
We are bypassing the 64 GB limit that is imposed by Sony for add-ons on PlayStation 5, meaning that you can install as many add-ons as you like and they should all be accessible in-game.

In addition, all consoles will see better general performance, memory improvements and a reduction to the number of crashes experienced. You may also encounter 'Out of Memory' issues less frequently.

    PS4 / Xbox
All consoles will see better general performance, memory improvements and a reduction to the number of crashes experienced. You may also encounter 'Out of Memory' issues less frequently.

    PC
There won't be any meaningful improvements of this change to PC platforms, however we are keeping this on the list because this change fundamentally alters how the game (across all platforms) accesses installed add-ons. This is why PC is at the lowest priority on our rollout order.

Thank you all for your extended patience with us as we delivered this solution.

    Updates 03/03/23 -> 15/03/23
This afternoon we've pushed a patch to PS5 users with the following changes:
    • Fixed some routes showing blank entries in Journey mode.
    • Added missing timetables for Acela and UP Heritage content.
    • Fixed missing Loco names when selected on the Trains my profile tab.
    • Fixed pause menu map not showing up on and missing from the UI.
    • Mastery access should be re-enabled
    • Various localisation improvements
    • Fixed certain scenarios not having completion ticks under journey’s after the scenario has been completed via the route menu.
    Update 29/03/23
Updating this thread with the release of Add-ons Manager on PS4 systems.
Read our announcement on our PS4 Add-ons Manager update.

If this new add- on feature can be released independently for each platform, why does it need to be released for PC users at all? Speaking personally, I don't need it. My PC installation is working just fine.

( Needless to say, I'm very happy for PS5 users. )

Great news, it seemed that the day would never come and here it is. Let's hope it works well and doesn't bring any additional problems as we players have been waiting for a solution for a long time, but also for DTG who will want to turn the page as soon as possible and forget this nightmare.

It should reduce RAM usage, which is always a good thing. Besides, I would venture DTG want to have a common code base going forward with as few platform-specific variations as possible.

Well, I guess we'll have to carefully observe how it works for PS5 users. If it works flawlessly for them, I'll be less concerned, though I have to believe it will work differently on the Steam platform for PC users.

And I'd still go with: " If it ain't broke, don't fix it. " for PC.

This is fantastic news! Thanks to everyone at DTG for all the work in designing, building and implementing this bespoke system for TSW.

I still don't agree with the way that the months of required development time was not clearly spelt out when TSW3 was released but I'm just happy it's here now.

Can't wait to see all my collection in one place for the first time in ages!

    Pinch me

Finally happening. Been waiting an age for this.

Going to download all the missing routes tonight, then when I get home from work tomorrow just have to download the patch.

Then just enjoy all missing routes & layers that have been missing for far too long

    Sing hosanna, sing hosanna,
    sing hosanna to the DLC
    Sing hosanna, sing hosanna,
    sing hosanna to the trains!

It’s because that’s the code for the game now. They aren’t going to have two different game codes in development at once. All platforms have to have it - this is what has been explained before.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but it doesn't allay my concerns. It's still something I don't need and I don't like being compelled to use it.

Sorry if I sound like a Luddite, but my anxiety is real nonetheless.

    Yes!!!
Some people are probably going to have a nice splurge on the store tomorrow!
I can't afford that all at once, so have already bought the routes as they released in anticipation of this day. At least I can play them now!

Eureka! Well, I’m only going to believe it once all the routes with all the layers appear tomorrow, but the end might actually be in sight.

Good plan. I’m gonna steal that if you don’t mind :D

Glad to see it finally coming.

Considering the wait to finally get this, and the need for many of us to hold-off on buying DLC during all that time, it'd be a nice gesture if DTG offered a hefty discount on DLC the next time there's a sale on the PlayStation Store. I've got some catching-up to do!

Being a player on PC, I expect, knowing DTG, to still have a gas factory, to manage.
They better repair what has been dragging for years.

...in the words of Fred Flintstone: Yappa Dabba Doo! Many thanks again to all the programmers and beta testers who tested countless builds and finally got a stable version. It's also fair that PS5 users get to enjoy it first, but in the end all platforms will benefit.

I'm sure we'll see a much more relaxed JD and Matt in the next roadmap stream. ;)

I've had TSW3 uninstalled since November due to frustrations with my PS5 experience. If Add-Ons Manager works as intended, I'll likely reinstall and maybe even pick up the new NEC route in the process. Thanks to DTG for (presumably) getting this sorted at long last.

Finally PS5 players get equality with us XBox players. About time. Should never have been an impediment DTG needed to work around, good on them for finally resolving it.

Awesome, as soon as I've installed and confirmed working, I will buy all the recent addons. Will be great to have everything installed in one place, without splitting between ps5 and ps4 versions

It's good that it is finally here but I wonder whether that alone solves the problem. If I understood Matt correctly, separating rolling stock from routes would be the next step - or is that already taken care of internally? If not, then the manager itself is only the first step but without much consequence as long as the download packages are not set up properly, so that the manager can e.g. extract the ICE 1 from Kassel-Würzburg without loading/mounting the route itself.

EDIT: Here's the quote from Matt, about the size difference between a loco DLC and an entire route: "Currently that size difference doesn't help because it still needs to mount the entire product to get the little loco or wagon inside it BUT next phase would be to investigate splitting loco's out into their own DLC depots (backend thing, you'd still buy a product as normal but it would come with a bunch of things that can be independently mounted and unmounted). Once that's done, the chances of you having 64gb of 1 route and hundreds of locomotives is... slim."

I don't understand the technical details, how it works etc., but it is a phenomenal achievement on the part of DTG, to be able to overcome the download limit, and presumably stay within Sony's PS5 parameters. You have to salute the accomplishment.

I sincerely hope that the launch of this update goes silky smooth and the feedback is all positive, so that this pesky problem can be laid to rest for PS5 players and the beleaguered community managers.

I think that with time this will definatley be Sony‘s problem that they will need to fix. Many other games are getting more and more DLC which is also getting larger. It wasn‘t there to begin with, so perhaps Sony need to realise it was a bad idea.
