I have done this and one of the Class 66 journeys several times in TSW3, but it is impossible to achieve the gold medal even without speeding and arriving in time. The problem could be that we do not receive any points at the end. Affected journeys: 5U93 Ramsgate Depot to Slade Green Depot 4Z61 Ramsgate to Rochester Up Layby Sidings DTG, please fix these.
I've found quite a few where only bronze is the best possible result. It's easiest to test these on the early morning set-up runs, where you can only get a maximum of 530 points (30 for one track section under speed limit) and 500 for stopping in the right place; yet the gold is over 1000 points. Apparently it's a long-standing issue, I assume that the points are auto-generated based on some formula and that all the timetable services are not actually played through (I can understand why) - it's just a shame that the formula doesn't do such a good job.
That is very sad, because now that there is a feature that you can achieve a gold rating for a whole chapter, I have set a goal for myself to do all chapters with gold rating. Now it is impossible. This game always disappoints as I stated already at my review of TSW2.
Best way to approach it for now is to complete the services, earn the best medal you can and move on. When DTG do eventually go and update the score threshold for medals, the ones on the services you’ve completed will automatically update to the new score requirements. So if you’d previously earned a bronze, and the score requirement was lowered to a more sensible requirement in an update, then you’d find that medal change to a silver or gold after you update. It’s because of these incorrect score requirements that I’ve stopped caring about medals completely. I just focus on service completion now.
You know, I've never thought of that. This would work pretty well. Just have the green tick mark that's been added in the recent update as indication that you've completed that run.
Exactly... IRL train drivers don't get a gold medal for doing their job (unless they count a bank transfer at the end of the month as such), and fi they removed the AP from timetable runs you could then have the delays and distress mode (ie maybe some lights other than greens) which would make for much more fun driving (or people actually taking note of what's going on rather than watching youtube whilst listening for the ding of the AWS)
The Slade Green one eluded me for the three times I tried it. THEN I was told to arrive right on time (as close as possible) to the stops. Someone also suggested reversing up the line back through the last tunnel but I didn't as I had a train pretty close behind. I managed to get the Gold, but only just. On the layby sidings, I confess my first try was a mess, and my second only a bit better. Both got me a bronze. I had a third try just now and only arrived in the sidings a few seconds late - Bronze. :-( I wanted to do all the guided journeys with Gold and now I'm feeling a bit Pi**sed. I'll see if I can find some more tips.
How? Because First time I did it I was early at both stops (1 minute at the first and several at the second, playing it as part of the guided Rail Journeys. I figured me being early might be part of the problem so I ran it again making sure I arrived on the dot and stopped on the mark. I was 2 seconds late for the second stop but again landed on the mark (both within 0.5). No overspeeding at all. Still only got 749 points and Silver. Except for those 2 seconds, it is impossible to be more precise. Talking about the Slade Green one.
The medal system is a mess and not fit for purpose, I can have a faultless run and get silver (or even bronze) but the other side of the coin I can have an horrendous run and still get gold. For me I'll continue judging my own performance and ignore the medals.
The fact this keeps popping up repeatedly on the forums and there are features for "Completion to Gold" on journeys it would be nice for it to be fixed. Only fix I've found is reversing up and down bits of track to get 30 points at a time which really ruins immersion
So... I managed the following on 5U93 Ramsgate Depot to Slade Green Depot Since DTG seems unwilling to fix scenarios that simply don't give enough points like this one, I have no issue sharing how I managed this. However I am not sure this will be allowed here so I will be posting in the guides section on Steam (Guides>filter by Category>modding or configuration) To give a little hint, it involves an "Engine" that allows you to do stuff. If you know what I mean, and know how to work with the "engine" you don't need the guide. Use that "engine" somewhere during the run and "earn" 250 extra points. I was kinda surprised it worked.

Just finished 5U93 with 5460 points and got the gold. You need to never ever go over the speed limit, and drive to arrive within the time allotted and not the speed limit. If you arrive at the right time, and stop on the marks, you should get 750 points. Do that twice, never go over the limit. By having a 10 points cushion for gold, you can miss the stop mark by a few yards, but don't be early, don't be late, and don't lose points for speeding. The time is so lax that you can safely go well under the speed limit.
