I think it was designed for yard work, e.g. filling up coal/grain hoppers as they pass underneath silos etc. (Where constant super low speed was required.) Not sure how it works in-game on the other hand.
Its used to pass through coal loaders at a slow and consistent speed to ensure that every wagon is fully loaded. Really old video but it might help....
How to use it: -Place reverser in Neutral. -Select the desired speed with slow speed control switch. -If there are two 37s, press the slave cutout button, this is because slow speed control is not transmitted via MU so the rear loco will not be operating with slow speed control and so you can overshoot your target value. -Place reverser into forward. -release the brake and place power to the on position. -let the engine do its thing. You will know if slow speed control is active as the slow speed control speedometer will show a value, if it isn't functioning this will show 0mph. -If on a gradient you may need to apply a bit of brake (dab of loco brake will usually sufice). The slow speed control has no control over the brakes on this engine. What its for, well things that require slow speed control, which is usually Merry go round operations such as loading or unloading.
Thanks all for the help, I figured it would have a start up procedure if it was implemented in the loco, just wasn’t sure on how to get it going.
