I watched Simrail on YT, and besides other stuff, this young game shows big superiority over TSW3 in terms of NPCs/passangers who behave in way more realistic manner, they board way more realistic and even sit in the train properly (not pop in the seat. This is 3rd edition of TSW and NPC problems grow in numbers and types, instead beeing solved and case-closed. There is majority of TSW routes with crippled NPC systems, and with growing numbers of passenger addons it should be one of the priorities to fix NPC system asap.
For the most part, I think they'll 'do', they are not great, but they are not so bad they ruin the experience in any significant way for me, I mostly find them quite funny. I'd put them low-ish down the list of things I think need improvement tbh, though I do think eventually they should be taught the basics of walking in a straight line without launching themselves into the air, and to walk away from the train when leaving it rather than amassing in a pile.
NPC are one of the wrose issues in TSW and something needs to be done about this issue once and for all i for one have talked about this many many times on my livestreams had many of my viewers say the same thing its a core issue and until they find the best way to bring npc's to life sad to say they wont fix it because dovetail is one thing and one thing only $$
They tend to spawn late and in many occasions they start boarding when you have to close the doors and leave. At least on some German routes. Depending where the spawn points are, it can be worse or fine. In my experience, I mainly arrive to empty platforms with NPCs on the point to come in. Maybe they're actually correctly simulated and they are really busy people that arrive late most of the time, or the rest of the city has traffic jams and it's not really their fault.
I just want to feel Im actually driving people. My brain works simple - transport people from A to B, not drive empty train from A to B (this I have in freight trains . I dont care about achievements or other disruptors, no passengers - no fun, no cause - no effect - no sense. Thats how my 72s looks all the time... Maybe it just me, who likes tranport people, maybe others like transport fresh air for example...
And tsw has been out for 6 years almost and the passenger system still has problems. If a small game can have a better passenger system, I can't see why tsw can't. Passengers spawn late in this game, don't board the train and if you have a full train, they will all get off one station later. The rush hour passenger system was supposed to sort out these problems but it didn't do any of that
Passengers are really killing the immersion for me. If you only play this game I can understand they don't bother you but if you play a lot of games, the TSW passengers really stick out like a sore thumb (next to all the other issues). Not saying they are the biggest issue but I don't understand why they haven't been upgraded to modern day NPC's. They lack poses, positioning, timing, ... everything is so basic. The thing is that passenger behaviour shouldn't be that difficult. Make them come on time, give them more poses. Position 70% of them on the platform so they face towards the direction the train is coming, make them board and sit down. It's not like they have to start conversations and interact with the player. In other games that is just a scene that is not even 0,1% of the gameplay and most of the time the NPC's also need to panic because the player will cause a lot of destruction. There is none of that in this game. It's a peaceful game where NPC's just have to catch a train. I had lot's of times my brain asks why I don't just quit my job at DB as it's clear the company will go bankrupt very soon. It's not possible the company can survive with empty trains like that. Or maybe is it just my train and I just smell bad?
My biggest gripe is that passengers just refuse to get on the frontmost or rearmost carriage of nearly every unit in TSW3 across nearly every route I've played (curiously it doesn't seem to happen to loco-hauled services). Passengers on the platform just freeze in place in front of the problem carriage when the doors are opened, and then disperse as soon as you close the doors. So after a while you end up with one completely empty carriage while the rest are packed. It absolutely does my head in and I doubt it'll ever be fixed.
Yeah but that's the big problem with this game; the day after a preview stream there is always something more pressing than the passengers.
I watched the preview stream and saw trains clipping into pillars, non working pantographs, .... That looks indeed more pressing than passengers
Would be nice to see passengers holding something in there hands like a mobile phone or a bag. They walk around empty handed.
If I am to drive equally empty Acelas on Boston2.0 then Acela can wait... It drives me crazy to see these empty platforms and trains and zombie staring at me doing none.
LGV exodus before departure... Driving the french air from A to B, there are only three stations... :/ Very discourage.
I continue to be amused by how many services literally start with every single passenger disembarking.
This is a plauge among DLCs, some german routes keep standards, but all US and UK older routes have litteraly zombie on platforms or empty platforms. My brain says no to driving empty trains. This thread will stay my small protest banner as long as necessary.
If the developers from dovetail games here our outcry to fix NPC passengers to have them be more lively then I'm sure that will be there top priority. We just need to get our voices heard
Not to mention the passengers having suicidal tendencies... ( Jumping from the overbridge, standing on the track, walking on the platform's edge )
In my opinion this is one of the Great Trinity Problems: passangers, dispatching and timetable (sound is crucial as well...) ,. Solving them, solve majority visible current flaws. (The freight had other issues) ps. NTP is one of the greatests routes in TSW and had severely damaged NPC system... Emptiness overwhelm it.
I do agree. Northern Trans Pennine for instance has no passengers at stations at all. That should be fixed.
Hello, I have submitted a ticket to investigate the passenger disemarbking issue directly, can I ask max#2873 - is there any way you can provide more details about the images you have provided? Confirming game platform, service names - everything you can, this way devs can us ethese examples to build an understanding of the issue and hopefully find a solution. Thank you
Can DTG add an option? Let me close the passengers. It never works well. NEVER! I'd rather rely on my imagination.
Hi Alex - forgive me, I'm not getting on your case specifically, but it seems a little galling to have DTG ask us to send them instances of passengers not behaving correctly. It's rampant. It's glaring. It's in every DLC and every station. Trains departing empty because all the passengers have left as soon as the doors opened, or trains pulling into stations that have passengers on them who just stare blankly at the train until it leaves. One would have to be playing a different game (or wilfully blind) not to see what an all-encompassing issue this is, and always has been. Top priority? Probably not. But the longer these go on without being fixed, the less credibility DTG gets in terms of managing their own software, IMO.
Agreed. Unfortunately DTG have tied the spawn of passengers into the arrival of the train, so there aren't actually relevant passenger numbers on the platforms when the tile loads / trains are arriving in a few minutes. Not sure why they haven't made it so that passengers will arrive to coincide with the timetable rather than spawning when the station actually comes into view. Maybe there could be a way to spawn the station WITH relevant passengers when it loads in so you could end up with platform numbers that load up over time until the train comes and so on, rather than what happens now Flooding, without doubt. Burning only affects the area that is burnt. Flooding brings all sorts of other issues and affects a larger area Details on passenger issues? Go to almost any east coastway timetable run. First thing it tells you to do is open the doors, every passenger gets up and leaves A lot of other runs (on any route) you might get a load of passengers jump on at the beginning but then at the first stop they all get off again and you end up with a dead train
It's a shame though. As the stations filled with passengers really does bring something to the game playing experience. Arriving at a platform full of passengers in TSW really is great. It would be great if it could be used to its full potential. I flit between TSC and TSW and the lack of people on TSC affecting the experience becomes quite apparent.
This happens in any route on all platforms. It isn't a platform specific issue. Play any route and the problems are the same
PLs see all the posts in this thread, it seems the problem is NPCs system in general, I put 3 major NPC flaws and relevant routes: 1) no passangers on platforms, empty stations (NTP, TVL, HAR, LIRR, BKL, LGV, HMA, DCZ, DRA, HBL) 2) no loading passangers in to trains (patch 13.03?) (NTP, TVL, LGV, LIRR, HAR) 3) leaving train by all npc before departure (or at the next station) (last/first station issue?) (NTP, TVL, LGV, ECW, HBL, HMA, SKA, DCZ, DRA)
They also have super powers. They can both teleport and levitate. DTG doesn't just have NPCs, they have SUPER NPCs
Has nothing to do with how small the game is. TSW is seven years old now, and passengers are a core system which is still in alpha state. It's just a matter of good coding and working conditions, nothing else. And they are amateurishly done in TSW, which suffers from the "lava flow" syndrome. Core code gets released in unfinished state and can't be properly updated because it would break DLC based on the unfinished code. (Wonder why the promised TSW4 feature "suspension" isn't there? And parts are already in the code leading to silly vertical cab shaking as if you're on a rocky road and not on rails? LIRR, Harlem, NTP, Class 47 Blackpool. And I wouldn't be surprised if they cancelled it completely.) This is exactly what you can observe in TSW. SimRail is built properly from the ground up. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In computer programming jargon, lava flow is a problem in which computer code written under sub-optimal conditions is put into production and added to while still in a developmental state. Often, putting the system into production results in a need to maintain backward compatibility (as many additional components now depend on it) with the original, incomplete design. Changes in the development team working on a project often exacerbate lava flows. As workers cycle in and out of the project, knowledge of the purpose of aspects of the system can be lost. Rather than clean up these pieces, subsequent workers work around them, increasing the complexity and mess of the system. Lava flow is considered an anti-pattern, a commonly encountered phenomenon leading to poor design. That explains the sh*tload of bugs with every DLC release.
Im afraid it is very acurate picture of what is going on here... Thanks for definition, didn't know it
Haupstrecke Rhein Ruhr is a perfect example of how broken the passenger system is. Empty stations, and trains that are emptied of passengers when you begin the service. I too really dislike driving empty trains. At Mulheim Styrum, the passengers are stuck waiting to move from their spawn point in the underpass like a bunch of zombies.
Is there or could there be an option to turn passengers off in the game for those of us who find it kills any sense of realism. I would much rather drive in a locked down landscape than be constantly confronted by a marching army of 20 and 30 something wannabe hipsters hovering over the track, walking in front of the train or hanging off bridges. Why no children, youths, elderly or mobility impaired passengers or parents with buggies? If some people find them amusing then great but at least give players who don't enjoy driving through them the option to switch them off and presumably improve the performance of the game as well?
They don't affect performance as far as I can tell, maybe on low-end systems, don't know. Using GodMode, you can reduce or zero the number of platform passengers. On routes like WSR, I reduce them from 100 to 16.
Fun fact, this was working well before tsw3. For some reason since then trains are empty and there is a lot of invisible passengers on platforms I can live with zhe behaviour for it self. How the enter, i dont particullary need the boarding animation. But bakerloo was fun to drive with a full crowded train. Now my mods dont work anymore too. I reinstalled tsw3 because i only play blackpool on tsw4. They introsuced really cool and awaited features, but breaking all the older content was a nogo. The passenger thing came with tsw3, so basicly it was ignored and still is getting ignored.
A rather large issue going on over a year… heard similar to that with Xbox issues… not to mention this also means TSW3 will be forever broke with this…
