Thought would start a new thread for the Weather pack as it will clutter up the other thread. So having a play with this in the sim scenario editor trying to edit my scenarios with the new pack. Looking forsome help. So i have followed the instructions for Dynamic placed the track marker so it starts with a certain preset. Now if i want the dynamic weather change during the scenario do i place the AP SWEP Weather (Pass) marker on the track (ensuring the arrow is pointing in direction of travel) then in the milege box place the weather command ????? Question is what commands do i then use for a rain shower etc is it the ones from page 36 onwards ??
I understand it as follows; 1) If you wish to have a dynamic pattern as soon as the scenario starts you need an AP SWEP Weather marker which can go on any piece of track. You then set up the pattern as per the instructions. If you don’t mind it being static at the start then you need to make sure the Wether EP is active and when clicking on the cogs at the top of the scenario description box ‘AP Weather’ is selected. Then you simply select one of the options from the drop down menu 2) You can then trigger a dynamic pattern by either placing an AP SWEP Weather (Pass) or AP SWEP Weather (Time) marker at an appropriate place along the route, following the instructions on Page 21 of the updated manual. If it’s a pass marker you’re correct that the arrow must be on the track (I guess the one the player train is on) in the direction of travel. The time option was added at the request (I believe) of Tom from TrainSimTV, because if you’re following an AI train the pattern was triggering as the AI train passed the marker. The patterns from page 36 onwards can only be triggered at the start of the scenario, and must be used with the standard weather pattern in the table.
Anyone else getting OOM errors since Sky & Weather v2? Can someone check something for me? Can you ensure you have the latest sky pack... the latest AP Wherry Lines 2.0, and the latest AP 150/2 and see if they can run any of the scenarios that come with Wherry Lines v2? Thanks.
No OOM errors since installing the pack, but I do get "Failed to create vertex buffer" errors in the editor each and every time I alt-tab for whatever reason. Switching to borderless window did help though. For the record, I had been running TSC in fullscreen mode ever since I bought it with very infrequent "Failed to create vertex buffer" errors. After installing SWEP v2 there's simply no way I can alt-tab in fullscreen mode without a crash.
I only get it with those specific circumstances. I've never had that error. I've never had any errors until this version of sky and weather. I could just ignore the 150/2, but I have a feeling that whenever they update the scenarios and then release an update of all their stuff, this will start to happen more and more.
Ι know what you mean. For some reason AP scenarios seem kind of sensitive to any changes. I recall getting OOM errors in certain scenarios whenever I tried swapping out stuff I didn't own for other AP stuff.
They crash upon loading. The load screen will shrink to task bar... and it sits there. If I click on its task bar icon, the load screen comes back frozen, then it OOMs. I've raised a ticket with AP, but to be honest, I think they're as stumped as I am. Next thing to try is a total hosing out of everything. Starting with a vanilla TS install, then install Wherry.... test... install the updated 150.... test... install weather pack.... test.
I have been getting that since installing the pack and it’s a pain in the behind to be honest. I probably ought report it to AP but I’m sure it will already have been done. It does happen at load in on all 150/2 scenarios though. When this happens though I am able to hit Alt+Tab and the window opens with the pause menu up without issue. I run the game in Full Screen, is that the same for you?
Raise a ticket. The more people that report the issue, the more likely it is to be resolved. Yes, I am running in full screen.
Yes... if I alt tab, or just click its icon on the taskbar, the load screen comes back, but its frozen, and then it OOMs. It only does it on scenarios that use the new sky and weather pack. Not all of them I might add... but only with those. I never had OOM errors before installing the new sky and weather pack. I've had the old one for ages with no issues.
neve rely on others to report stuff for you also report it yourself others may have the same Opinion as yours
Ok... nuked my install, and started again. With a vanilla install, after installing sky and weather v2, I get the same issue, except this time, like you, I can get the loading screen back without crashing. So the actual crash behaviour is something to do with the plethora of 3rd party addons here.... maybe... no actual proof of that, but I suspect it's being instigated by this dropping back to the desktop, and if it didn't do that, then I think it would just happily load and run like everything else does, and always has done. I'm putting everything back on as it was. I can't play the game vanilla. I'd rather just carry on using the old sky and weather pack. I've already stopped using RWE. I'm not losing Reshade as well, as that for me is the thing that (apart from AP rolling stock itself) that stops the game looking its age, and there's no other way to selectively alter colours and tonemap it. I can't think what other third party stuff could cause this, as it's mainly assets that wouldn't be loaded when using Wherry Lines and AP rolling stock. The only 3rd party core game addon I am now using is Reshade. I'll test it without that later, but for me, that's a line in the sand. If I have to play the sim vanilla to get it working, then I'm done.... time to move on to flight sim I think. Is anyone else having the game drop back to the desktop upon loading a scenario that uses the new sky and weather pack? I don't just mean it has had a fixed weather pattern applied, I mean one that actually uses the track markers for dynamic weather changes? Has anyone else that runs in full screen experienced the same issue?
Yes i’ve had the game drop back to thetaskbar a couple of times. No crash though. I am pretty sure it’s because AP weather v2 run a script everytime you start a scenario. I even think it’s described in the manual.
I suspect that's what is instigating the crash here. Even if it didn't crash, that's still a royal pain in the butt. If that can be stopped from happening, I'm convinced I'd not have this issue, even if the actual OOM is not a fault of AP. So that's three people who have the dropping back to desktop issue now.
I have a reply from AP. They say no one else had reported the dropping back to desktop problem apart from me. This is why it's important to report these things They aren't convinced it's a problem therefore. I have a workaround, which is to use borderless, but my game play is really dark when I use borderless... I mean, I can set the in game brightness to max, and it's still way too dark. No idea what's going on there, so I'll work on that in the meantime.
Borderless does sort it, but it shouldn't be dropping the game back to the desktop, so that does need looking at if you ask me.
i have not got this pack but have had crashes to desktop more so as of late to the point i giving up with TSC for a while
They replied straight away and apparently the manual has recently been updated to suggest that the game is run in borderless mode. I’ve always run it in full-screen although it’s no big deal to go borderless. My only question would be, does borderless affect performance at all? I always thought fullscreen gave better performance but maybe that’s an old wives tale.
This sucks, because I can't alter the brightness in borderless mode. The in game brightness control seems to do nothing, and this is on a completely squeaky clean install as well. The game is way too dark in borderless, and I can't adjust it. It's perfect in full screen mode. Does your in game brightness control do anything if you run in borderless? I have no objection to borderless apart from it looks like hot garbage because it's too dark, and it appears I can do nothing about it.
That is weird. My game looks the same in full screen as it does in borderless. That sounds like a Windows issue. I’ve Googled and posted this, haven’t read it. Hope it helps! https://steamcommunity.com/app/435150/discussions/0/2530372519570145691/
Nope... not doing that. My screen is calibrated. I'm not messing up my screen calibration just to play Train Sim. If the brightness control worked in borderless, it would be fine, but it doesn't.
I just set NVidia control panel to let it control things, and it made no difference to the game, and the brightness control is still not working in borderless. If I adjust the screen setting in the NVidia control panel, it's a global change for everything, and that would mess up screen calibration. If AP didn't have that bloody script running in that command prompt window, none of this would be happening. Forcing everyone to run in borderless is bang out of order.
That's what it was on to begin with. Makes no difference. Borderless is darker, and the brightness control doesn't work in borderless.
I haven’t as yet bought the SWEP2, just been waiting till these many teething issues are resolved, as I don’t want to encounter myriad issues and be majorly disappointed by something so promising that I was looking forward to trying. But if there’s ongoing issues, and all AP updates require SWEP2, I’m wondering if those of us refraining from getting it will not be able to upgrade now.
In fairness, the crashing with OOM errors may not be AP's fault, but the game disappearing to the task bar is (even though that seems to be the only way he can make it work), but I don't think there's a way around it. He can't replicate the fault at his end, although three people on here are having the same issue. I've no idea what's going on with my borderless mode, but I can't adjust anything. I've stripped everything off... deleted my entire Railworks folder and started again, and is still doesn't work. As for the upgrade question, then I can only assume that the updated scenarios will just use default weather patterns if using the old sky and weather pack.... You'd have to play one of them as it is now... then download and install the updated version and see what happens I suppose.
OK... since re-installing train sim, I can't get AP weather in quick drive. It's supposed to use AP standard weather, but I'm getting standard train sim weather/clouds etc.
Mmmm.... a minty fresh install of TSC with the new Sky & Weather EP v2.0 I bet you're all jealous of THAT.... right? Getting a bit tired of this product now. I think I'll be asking for my 20 quid back if I can't get this resolved soon.
I can't use Fullscreen anyway because as soon as I click on my second monitor (to use a browser, a manual .pdf or discord or whatever) it minimises the game, Ok I lose focus of the game when I click on my second monitor whilst in borderless (need to click on game screen for keyboard or controllers to function again) but at least I can still see that I missed the AWS and slamming my button repeatedly isn't cancelling it (because of said loss of focus). Sounds like you've gone through the wringer with this enhancement pooky mate, muchas sympatherio. Anyway for me it seems to be working correctly in Borderless just to note I only have vegetation enhancements ticked in RWE and only have debanding ticked in Re-shade. Ambient Light Intensity 0% & 100% Contrast 0% & 100% Pretty much my standard setting (I do tweak these + Sunlight Intensity dependant on mood and situation)
Yes. ECML London to Peterborough. Apparently it's not copying over the Time of Day files, and I'm to run the batch file, but I don't have the batch file. Something's very broken, but it's a completely new install. I must have hosed out and re-installed train sim at least four times today. I've run the set up for sky and weather a million times... both with and without admin privileges, and I can't get it to work.
Make that 4, I have just had the same experience myself. I have not had an OOM Crash but the loading splash screen disappears revealing desktop but if I click on the TSC icon on the task bar it continues loading. Once the scenario has fully loaded it again crashes to desktop and again I have to click the TSC Icon on the task bar to play the scenario. From there the scenario runs perfectly. This is only happening with AP Weather MK2 scenarios, all others load as usual.
Yep. That's the way it is though, and you have to use borderless now, or just put up with it. Which would be fine, but I can't run borderless for many reasons: 1. It's really dark and the brightness control doesn't seem to work 2. It won't let you run 2560x1440 if you have a 1600P screen 3. 1600p videos are scaled to 1440p in youtube leaving ugly black bars at the side, as well as the ones top and bottom already there thanks to it not letting you run 1440 on a 1600 screen, even though in full screen I can, with a 1:1 pixel ratio This sucks.
You can run the install manually. It saves to C:\Users\[username]\Appadata\Local\Temp\data.7z. Extract that file and you'll be able to drag and drop the files manually. Then run the batch script.
You probably already know this, but without the AP pack, the brightness in borderless still does not work. It even says it won`t work at the top of the screen. I was seriously considering this pack. Not so sure now. Jumping through hoops should not be necessary in 2023, no matter how old the game is.
OK, that worked... kind of. The AP weather I programmed a scenario with now works, but there's still no AP weather patterns in quick drive.
I know you know what you’re doing, but can I suggest either you manually clear out your temp folder or use CCleaner to the do the same. If you choose the latter also run the registry fix too. Whenever I have problems with stuff like this those 2 actions with CCleaner solve them. I’ve lost count of the number of times it’s fixed little problems like this. Just make sure you uncheck items you don’t want it to touch before running it. Finally, are you sure that the AP installers are pointing towards your Railworks folder. It’s possible for the registry entry to be incorrect (don’t ask me how) and AP packs won’t install properly as a result. You may even find you have a load of random AP folders somewhere on your hard drive. Just Trains even put out a little program to correctly detect and fix the registry entry it’s so common. I’ve had to use it myself recently having moved my installation to a different disk. Here it is… https://support.justflight.com/supp...-was-not-detected-or-railworks-was-not-found-
That's very true, and I got so caught up in the ambient light and contrast settings I forgot to check the brightness.. lol One other thing I haven't done yet is download and install AP's updated rolling stock scenarios, I'll be honest I'm a little reluctant to at the minute too.
Again, probably not helpful, but I see no difference in colours or brightness whether in windowed or full screen. Its identical.
OMG, so it does. When you click on a bar to drag it, you are looking at the bar, not the top of the screen... that's stupid. Hang on a minute.... You sure about that huh? You had me literally tearing my windows install apart trying to find out why it wasn't working!! It doesn't work in borderless ya wee bugger . Well this goes from terrible to catastrophic. LOL [edit] That's not your screeny Reef... must have been doing the exact same thing at the exact same time.... kinda creepy. LOL
Oh yes... first thing I checked. It dumps all the necessary files into the .7v temp file, but the install script just doesn't unpack them in Assets. I did it manually, and it worked, but I still have no Quick Drive AP weather for some reason.
Can’t help you there, I’m not a Quick Driver so to speak. Do clean your temp folder either way though. That could be causing problems.
