Read in another thread that Sherman Hill, one of my least played routes, had received a bit of an update. Decided to check it out and heck, yes it looks totally new. Not sure if it’s just the lighting that got a makeover, but the ground textures seem much more vibrant and colourful. Previously it looked like a prolonged and slightly washed out Rannoch Moor. The driving is still a bit of a going - solid Notch 8 uphill then Step 5 or 6 dynamics going down the other side, but it’s really actually quite okay.

Now the route has been refreshed, surely it’s time for some new traction - how about the GTEL or maybe even a steam loco, Big Boy or Challenger?

In either case, the route would have to get a full makeover for the vintage era in question.

It didn’t stop them putting the GTEL on the TSC version and just as with GWE Legends, I wouldn’t be averse if it brought something iconic into the game.

Anyhow after my relatively down comments in most of the other threads the last day or three, thought it would be nice to post taking a positive experience from the game and too encourage more of the older and less popular routes deserve a makeover.

Myself I'm rather mystified as to why the GTEL is considered "iconic" in some circles. It was a bad locomotive, which UP got rid of as soon as they could be replaced by the even worse U50C and those in turn by boring but reliable C40-7s

Maybe it's the Reliant Regal of trains. Iconic, but trash :D

It's possible but we'll have to wait until it gets added to the roadmap. The big boy and challenger are quite massive and challenging beasts so it's best to get them right with a correctly functioning steam simulation

I think it's the sight and sound that offer the appeal and I was actually surprised in TSC how relatively low powered the lash up was.
The other iconic (IMHO) UP loco is the famous DD40X, now that would be a Day One purchase for me!

C30-7, 4000hp was still a bit off when GE rolled around with the Dash 7's

At least the DD40X's lasted a bit longer than UP's other powerful units. Delivered 1969, ran till about 1980's Parked for a few years then had one last push when UP was short on power in the Mid 1980's.

Track 3 would reinvigorate the route

I had to google what the GTEL was and the very first picture I found looks straight from TSW.

    It's from a lego custom build page ... ?!

Anyway, I agree, having that beast in TSW3 would be incredible. I'm all in for unusual trains. That thing made me buy TS Classic again when it was the cover loco, reigniting my joy in train simming.

That looks like a photo from Transport Fever to me.....

Anyway, the GTEL's really only fit the 50's or 60's era route, and I'm not a big fan of putting locos out of their era (The ATSF F7 on modern Cajon). So unless DTG does a backdated timetable for Sherman Hill or adds in Wasatch Grade, I dont wanna see a GTEL anywhere on TSW.

I agree, but DTG are very uncreative when it comes to that. For every loco like that, why don't they just make a seperate timetable with the layers added in for people who want it, and keep the original. So you don't have to see the F7 on Cajon for example. And on the original they might just be static rolling stock in the museum.

But no, only one timetable to make everyone unhappy.

Edit: Before anyone comments "What about more than one loco DLC? To many time table variations for eavh possibility".

Selectable layers. A feature we've been asking for for a long time by now.
