With the recent release of NTP and it being set in the 1980's. I was wondering what era's are the most popular for UK routes.

I voted for 1980s as well. I would vote 90s as well if I could choose two. These were the good days with a very high variety of rolling stock. I would love to have a Class 50 on TSW.

I didn't vote in the poll as really anything from mid 60s to current is potentially of interest to me. Steam was before my time so whilst I understand that some are interested in it I'm perfectly happy with diesel, diesel-electric and straight electric trains.

Update: Now that we can have multiple choices my votes now reflect from 60s onwards.

Actually I also agree with you, Sam. Even though I prefer mostly diesel, diesel-electric and electric rolling stock, steam is actually one of the most interesting rolling stock to drive ( on TS 2019 ). Plus I think it would be a great addition for the existing West Somerset DLC. I do wonder how good steam locos will look on TSW.

I've amended the poll so you can select more than one.

Post privatisation only. Certainly nothing before 1990.

I hate post privatisation, both real life, and sim: Too few genuine loco hauled trains, too many boring EMU/DMU trains. Too much foreign built, boring rolling stock with no soul. I feel sorry for those who weren't around in the 70s and 80s and never knew the thrill of sticking your head out of a Mk1/2 carriage window while being hauled by a class 40.

Where I live the past 20 years has been the most boring time in rail travel imaginable. To give you an idea of how terrible, local rail enthusiasts are all excited about Northern's new DMU... the Spanish built Civit units that look like a bus and have all the soul and charm of a Vauxhall Insignia. How rubbish does a country's rail system need to be in order for enthusiasts to get excited about a 3 car DMU?

When I was a kid, it took nothing less than a Deltic hauled express train with both engines running full chat to get excited.

Does this make me sound old? Probably... I don't care though... it's all true :)

No prizes for guessing how I responded to the poll LOL.

Also gotta say though, that even though I personally prefer older stuff, I'd like to see a mix a mix of the old and the new so that everybody gets what he wants.

For now, would like to see modern day UK. The last 2 routes have been heritage and historic. I wouldn't mind seeing more historic trains for West Somerset and Northern Transpennine but would like the next route release to be present day.

I completely agree. At the moment we have double the amount of UK heritage units in TSW than modern units. A mixture of historic and modern is good but currently there is a substantial imbalance.

And still no UK electrics/EMUs which is rather dissapointing.

If DTG plan to make more modern day routes in the future. They absolutely must implement a console edit mode. For scenarios, 3rd party stock dlc, and the templates, tools to add reskins. Ps4 and xbox versions would only serve as playable demos of a PC simulator otherwise.

Anything that doesn't involve modern day plastic rubbish

I'm a BR blue kid so 70's and 80's would be my preferred choice, wouldn't mind BR Green (mixed with Steam) and anything up to around '96

I don't think there will be a edit mode for consoles. I don't see how you could make content using a Xbox or PS4 controller. Also you won't be able to edit or control files of content for the game on console like you can for TS on PC. There could be something similar on consoles like Steam Workshop for people to download more scenarios but I don't see that happening as it would mean transferring from PC to console which could mean a lot more work.

Can make templates to add usb loco skins. Ie how konami dealt with the lack of licence in Pro Evolution Soccer. They give You the option to download full 3rd party created edit files, hundreds of images. Suprising how communities get things done with only the slightest bit of help. Does someone on here know how loco reskins are implemented? Is there a 2d template for the different locos? If it is done that way. Im sure if dtg put the edit mode in the game. people could create liveries for console via photoshop to usb then load up the completed templates to a Png file editor in the game.

I miss the slam door trains to the south coast, caught the tail end of them 2002. It felt like a journey out, the slam, the rumble of the compressor and the diesel ones. Health and Safety is needed in some places but for transport it got too strict, even Buses aren't as fun, too quiet.

Id love to see some modern traction in the sim and old, there are no limits in what we can have its just will those core train enthusiasts at DTG speak up a lot more for core features

Imo it would have been better if the 2000s and the 2010s were separate voting options.

I think you have a valid point. I overlooked that when I set up the poll and it is maybe not giving an accurate reflection of the results.

You could possibly also split it up further into 2000-2010, 2010 - 2017 and 2017 - Present day. Reason being the last year or so has seen a somewhat exponential increase in new units built for the rail network and so you can almost class it as its own era really.

I suppose at some point you could rerun the poll, but with just the highest voted categories carried through
