One idea that I've been tossing around in my head for a while has been the idea of a "Hotspot" route. The route instead of being your standard point A to point B, would be one that branches out to different areas which are centered around one location (in most cases, it would have to be a station or a yard) that is served by multiple railroads. A good example of this idea is the Los Angeles area in the 1950s. The Hotspot is centered around LAUPT, which was served by the ATSF, SP, and UP at the time. Instead of focusing on just one railroad, it follows all three out of LA for a certain distance (perhaps 20-30 miles). This gives players plenty of scenario opportunities, as they don't all have to be centered on one railroad. One thing I am not sure about for this idea is as to whether or not it would work in places outside of the US. This type of route would most likely be extremely difficult to make as well, but I'm sure there are ways to make it more simple to create. What do you guys think? I look forward to reading your reply's!

I don't see why it would be particularly more difficult to make as there are loads of routes with junction points. The only thing I can see being "annoying" is if you limit the route length availability to 40-60 miles in total all the scenarios would be really short. Probably good for shunting but obviously no mainline runs

LA could connect to the existing Cajon Pass and include LAUPT, UP/SP Colton Yard, and the UP/SP Mojave Subdivision from Colton to Mojave.
We also need the rest of BNSF/ATSF's Mojave Sub from Mojave to Barstow.
    Modern Loco Possibilities: UP ET44AC, BNSF ET44C4, UP SD70ACe-T4, BNSF SD70ACeP4-T4, UP AC6000, UP SD90/43MAC, UP ES44AC ES44C4 (BNSF), Genset Switchers (UP/BNSF), Amtrak P42DC Genesis w/ SW Chief Superliner consist, SD60(M/B)s, GP40s, GP50s, GP38-2s etc.
    Maybe we could get SP AC4400s, C44-9Ws, SD45s, SD70Ms, SD40T-2s, SW1500s, etc.
Definitely need ATSF 4-8-4 #3751 (It's stored in San Bernardino)
    Perhaps we could get some vintage diesels: F3 or F7 A/Bs, E6 or E7 A/Bs, E8 or E9 A/Bs, ALCO PA A/Bs, ALCO RSD-15s, GP7/9s, SD7/9s, SD24s, GP20s, FM H-12-44s, FM H-16-44s, SP FM H-24-66 Trainmasters.
Steam: ATSF 4-8-4s or Hudsons, UP Challengers (Greyhound), SP GS4 4-8-4s, etc.

I wasn't really saying that the whole route would be 40-60 miles, I had meant that the route follows the mainline of each major railroad for a 40-60 mile distance.

You said 20-30 so the max length in any one direction would be 40-60
