I'm considering buying a standard copy of TSW (not, 2020, the first one available for consoles) so I can get Great Western Express and Rapid Transit for much cheaper than buying the routes separately then playing it on TSW2 (I prefer the UI and graphics) but I don't know if having TSW DLC means you can download the TSW2 equivalent (and TSW3 obviously) versions for free aswell. I tried asking Dovetail support about this but the service operator dodged the question and assumed I wanted to transfer the routes to TSW3, no I want them on TSW2. So is it possible or would I have to buy the routes again?

I don't know about the original TSW but I have TSW2020 and all the routes & DLC for that came across to TSW2 though I had to download them all again.

When I got a PS5 I needed to contact DTG tech support to get the PS5 version of the TSW2 program as well as the PS5 version of the routes and DLC I have as they were only offering updates to TSW3. Like yourself (and very many others) I am sticking to TSW2 and DTG seem to have closed off all options to update it but if you contact them they should try and help you. Chris and the support team were especially helpful in sorting me out and I am very grateful for the help they gave me.

Whatever happens DO NOT give in and accept that you have to get TSW3 as you have every right to refuse what is widely accepted as a poorer edition of the game when compared to TSW2. Stick with TSW2, save yourself money and avoid the crushing disappointment of the annoying stuttering mess that is TSW3.

I'm using TSW2 and after reading the forums, chose to stick with it. Apparantly too many things are broken in TSW3, the lighting and eye adaption has issues. Having all TSW2 compatible routes, that's enough for me as I'm mainly a TSC player. Still TSW is too restricted for me because of the following reasons:

    - While timetable is nice at first, it's just A-B runs on mostly short routes which can get boring soon
    - No possibility to set up your own consists as in TSC, instead people have to ask the Senior Producer for having consists they want in the game
    - No route or real scenario editor involving tasks like shunting and coupling to consists - basically it's a QuickDrive
    - Livery editor using predefined shapes can never substitute a real editor using imported textures (though people have been very creative)

foobian's GodMode mod gives you full control over the weather while you're driving and lets you spawn any vehicle anywhere.

Back on topic. Still if you later choose to get TSW3, it won't replace TSW2 as it is a separate game. You can still play both versions then.

Yeah, thanks for the answers. TSW3 is a terrible experience for me especially as I play on Xbox One, and on numerous occasions the game will spend about 3 minutes playing at like 0.5fps, and the textures inside trains and on things like signs sometimes never load. Bit disappointing, really.

8th gen consoles really can't handle TSW3 routes

While performance is obviously not ideal, it’s still perfectly playable. For example, Niddertalbahn is among the routes with the best performance in all of TSW. SEHS and KWG are also perfectly fine, just to name a few.
If you have problems on old gen, remember to unsubscribe from Creator’s Club liveries. They essentially act like a whole new train type in the timetable and can seriously mess up the performance.

That said, I obviously still plan on upgrading to a next gen console soon. But the old gen versions definitely don’t feel abandoned at all.
