    Hi,
Does anybody know if there are documents anywhere about what is included and how to use?

TrainSimDev has a guide and videos on youtube to help with the modern signals but I'm wondering about some of the items in that are called "others" eg "SPT alone" and "Start terminator".

SPT alone might be a Signal Post Telephone which is not attached to a Signal post.

Have you tried placing the "Start terminator" on a section of track?

Thanks for the suggestions. I've not tried anything yet, I was wondering what they did before I broke anything!
Reaching out to just trains is a good idea.

What do you wish to use the Common Library for?
It is just common assets that appear in a number of routes.

Unlike DTG that give you the same assets multiple times

I was just having a look, specifically at the Steve Green changes to Birmingham Cross City and was trying to learn and build on top of them. I just wondered what was in there and if there was an alternative to digging through the entries in the editor.

Be aware that using JustTrains\CommonLibrary will probably prevent your route from uploading to the workshop, I've seen discussions on the Steam forums concerning that.

That's quite surprising. I thought that some just trains routes on stream came with the common library.

It might have to do with the fact that for example with DTG assets, you can be sure everyone has exactly the same files, whereas the CommonLibrary contents depends (or was depending) on the JT routes you have installed and is not "final" but ever changing and subject to updates. There's been threads on the matter. Cyclone knows what I'm talking about. Also the CommonLibrary is not a DLC on its own, which is probably the main reason it's not valid for WS. (As opposed to the ELAP for example.)

As Peter said, DTG may provide the same assets multiple times - but this is a very clean way to distribute files (one route - one assets pack) and saves from a lot of trouble (Storage capacity is not a thing these days). All the troubles people are having with JT routes (see Steam reviews) are caused by inconsistent files, different versions and possible downgrading of these depending on installation order.

The way JT are releasing routes is they already have this huge network, and just cut out pieces from this to release as DLC. In the past, they only provided the assets used on that DLC, which caused massive problems in combination with other JT content - files got overwritten in case of overlapping. All the bad Steam reviews boil down to this.

You could try to build a super simple route using CommonLibrary and see if you can publish it for testing.

It comes with many routes through Steam. If you have it, keep it installed. It will apply to any route that uses it.

You also get it in unpacked form with routes directly from Just Trains, but files may change slightly between routes. The one on Steam is a consistent one.

Caveat is if you have the latest Steam CL and then install an older JT route, it places loose folders next to the ap which will then override the Steam files... that's why people are still having trouble.

Yes. But at least there are no missing files. Just some that do not match the ones in the AP archive.

Really the Common Library should be a DLC on its own... Would save a lot of hassle having one consistent DLC that gets updated over time.

It is. Check your DLC. It only comes bundled with routes.

That said, I agree JT should separate it and similarly bundle it on their site.

Indeed, it has its own depot for some time now.

Even as a separate DLC the issues listed above still apply because it hasn't been set up properly. If they moved the CL to be closer to the Kuju asset packs in distribution and format then the issues would hopefully be less major.
