(Yes, I'm aware that that sounds like the title of a low-budget film). I feel like, with dynamic weather, fog/mist is configured to occur too frequently. Almost every run I do will see fog at some point, which is more common than in reality. In truth, I think fog should be configured to be less common than it might be in real life - I feel like, of all the weather types, it's the one people are more likely to only want when it's specifically chosen.
The weather system is far too random as i stands. I understand a ten minute shower in a one hour drive is possible as is going from sunshine to rain, but there's a lot of transitions of weather which can just be too much Hopefully in 2024 they'll move away from the weather being the defining function of the game
I usually turn of dynamic weather now as no matter where you are fog will almost certainly appear. Also when it starts to rain it rarely stops. Due to the amount of thunderstorms you encounter, I think the DTG offices must be in Florida!
I stay on custom weather now as fog is almost every trip. The new console edition of Fernbus has the option to change weather in an instant. I wonder if that could be implemented here, or if it is an Unreal 5 system.
If you are @ PC you should really have a look at this: https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/mods/c3-train-sim-world/c75-utilities/i2703-tsw-god-mode-alpha-022
I look at the real weather and it rains quite frequently but it hardly ever goes foggy. Yet in TSW it hardly ever rains but nearly always goes foggy. Fog should be very rare in dynamic weather, in all seasons. Having it go slightly misty (and I mean slightly) would be great but the mist and fog are just too dense and far too often. Dynamic weather shouldn’t really change the weather drastically. It also appears that when it does rain it always seems to go straight to a thunderstorm, another very rare occurrence in real life. I’d expect a bit of drizzle or some nice short showers but not a thunderstorm every time it rains. Maybe there should be an option for ‘realistic’ or ‘exaggerated’ for dynamic weather, to make it a little more useable. I dabbled with it but have gone back to setting custom weather now mainly because of the fog. A setting to have either dynamic weather or custom weather as default for your game would be handy too.
There's also another issue with fog in TSW3 in that it can just suddenly disappear. There's no fade out, it just goes poof and it's gone and back to sunny skies.
The Prevalence Of Fog Copyright it and sell it to Steven King! I agree, the fog tends to be unrealistic, especially when it just vanishes. Thicker fog is fine in the Autumn or winter months, but I've had it appear in the afternoon on a spring/ summer scenario. The ground would be too warm for the fog to exist. If there is a setting for "let's have all the weather, one after another" it would be much better if it was slowed down significantly.
I’m also sticking with custom weather. I find the transitions of the dynamic weather to be way too fast and as was already said, it gets foggy far too often.
Yep, I do the same, stick it on Custom Weather and select the weather condition I want it in so it doesn't change during the journey
Yeah, while I have no issue with the frequency of fog, as it's a weather type that's super common where I live, the sudden immediate vanishing of it where the weather just instantly flips from one frame to the next to a different weather with no transition has been occurring more and more frequently of late.
Before dynamic weather arrived in TSW3, lots of forum members insisted that it be added; now that it has arrived, of course, lots of forum members complain about it, seldom noting that it can be turned off. Sic transit gloria mundiI?
Personally, instead of random dynamic weather which is way too random as has been said, I'd prefer an option to either go from 1 weather setting to another dynamically over the course of a service, or to have real weather conditions for that route, but ofc that would involve weather APIs and all that stuff and idk if DTG would be willing to go that far. Would be nice if they did though.
I think the vast majority of people love the new dynamic weather, it's just the prevalence of fog (and for me, rain with hardly any/no clouds in the sky) that necessitates turning dynamic weather off. We are all well aware that we can turn it off, we just think the dynamic weather settings could do with more tweaking. One thing that bothers me is the prevalence of snow in the Cajon Pass route. Yes, there is sometimes snow at the peak of the pass, but it is rare. Snow in Victorville and Barstow is a once in a decade event - not every time you go out between November and March. Route weather should be accurate/tuned to the location, not the same if you're in Canada or southern California
My experience is less fog than the 100% certainty of a clear blue sky turning into a downpour, and usually a thunderstorm.
Exactly. Cajon Pass should not, usually, see anything more than light clouds. Snow is very rare there not just because it isn't often below freezing, but because there is seldom any precipitation of any sort. Desert, remember? Conversely, weather on NTP should range from heavy overcast to fog to rain, full stop. Most Yorkshiremen consider this "sun" thing to by a myth made up by Southerners having them on.
