Hello everyone I am writing to inform you guys that at 3PM on April 23rd an alarm will go off across every phone in the UK. It is only a test operated by the government to test a new system for real emergencys. So do not take it seriously. However if you are driving at that time I recommend pulling in somewhere as something like that to those unaware will cause a good amount of accidents as itll be quite loud and an unexpected sound to hear. It will take its toll almost everywhere in the UK. Thanks for taking the time to read and stay safe.
Thanks for tagging me mate because I wasn't aware of this happening. Will it still go off if my phone is in the power off do you know?
Here in Germany we already had this a few times, was also announced a few weeks prior but was still a surprise when it happend. But as my phone was on silent mode it just vibrated heavily, i know some whose phones didnt go off, some recieved it a few minutes earlier or later...... Interested in how the UK will pull it off.
unlikely, as they haven’t invented unlimited electricity for instance that the battery is out, though they may be able to force a power on if their is power to the device, not entirely sure though if that’s possible
Is this an April's Fools joke? Because I'm quite confused. EDIT: Wait no April's Fools happened last week. So is this actually happening? I'm just going to Google it. OOOOOOOOOOOH I'm excited now having read the gov.uk article. Thanks for telling me!
Here in Sweden we have our Siren going off every 3 months for testing instead of having an alarm on our phones
They’ve said if your phone is off or on Airplane mode it will not go off. It probably means if you have no Wi-Fi and no phone signal you won’t get anything either. I’ll be interested to see what they use it for in the future. It won’t stop at weather and natural disaster alerts.
It went off on my phone about 15:01, it said I didn’t need to do anything and after a few bleeps/alarm it went silent. that’s the notification with it. “Severe Alert This is a test of Emergency Alerts, a new UK government service that will warn you if there's a life-threatening emergency nearby. In a real emergency, follow the instructions in the alert to keep yourself and others safe. Visit gov.uk/alerts for more information. This is a test. You do not need to take any action”
From what I know it is a Samsung related issue as my mates TSW Nathan didn't receive it and he is on Samsung like me (I didn't get it) whereas my other friend derek#2931 got it and he is on iPhone. So it dosen't take a genius to out 2 + 2 together and narrows our options down leading me to believe its a Samsung issue.
Nope. Everyone I know with a Samsung (including myself) got it. However, it lasted like 3 seconds and didn't need acknowledging so I couldn't pick up my phone to check in time. Is it possible you missed it?
Well I'm on Samsung and I got it, so maybe it is certain companies didn't get it e.g. Sky & Virgin got it and the others didn't for example
Worked on mine, Vodafone, iPhone 11 for me. theirs settings it seems in the iPhone to disable Extreme and Severe alerts under notifications
Apparently some phones didn't get it (those on the Three network) For those who are unaware, there is a phone company in the UK called "Three"
It only worked if you have a 4G or 5G phone, so as well as some networks having issues people with older phones also missed it, hardly very equitable.
I think the people who have been left behind by technology will be receiving their emergency alert in a handwritten letter in the post in the next few days. It’s not as quick but it is more personal and really shows that the government care. Texts can be so impersonal.
Ah right thanks! Sorry the way he said it I thought he might have been something to do with dry or one of the third parties!!!
