Ok it gets even wierder. I can acces quick drives, and play via the Profile page. Just not via the Drive page.
Couldn't agree more, I personally am somewhat disappointed at the release of this update, firstly with the timing being a long weekend in the UK with next Monday being a UK Bank Holiday and secondly that a lot of my favourite Locos & Routes now have problems e.g. The PNG Thumbnail issues All Virtual Railroad Locos now do not have AFB, The ATS 185 has no Speed Limiter, GST MPV - six features affected Smokebox Big Boy problems outlined above. Am yet to have chance to try all my BMG, SSS, CW, kettles just hope they are OK Don't get me wrong I am not anti-update and fully support the efforts in dragging this amazing sim into the modern world but feel the Beta route for us all to try out and feedback before forcing the update on us all would have been a better option.
It also seems to have messed with AP weather pack 2. I think what has happened is that the tod in the kuju folder has been reset.
Did you do a full uninstall and reinstall or did you just overwrite existing? I did a full reinstall and have not had any issues.
Overwrite. I just copied in my assets folder from my backup, and AP weather works again. Only thing that is not working (as far as i can tell now) is the Drive page and AFB in vR locos. I didn’t have the fps improvements that some users are reporting. Nor was i expecting to, as i run at highest settings.
The very knowledgable people on Rail-Sim.de are theorising that its the autodesk scaleform plugin that’s broken, and is now causing the thumbnail issues. It is an ancient piece of code which would need changing at some point anyway.
If this is the case, DTG are planning on replacing the menus anyway and so a fix for the bug might not happen until that UI update.
Anyone else who using the Vulkan API/DXVK since the update? The sim just refuses to load for me. I get the small TSC logo appear for 2 seconds, then it just quits and refuses to load. Everything is fine with DX9 (well... almost everything) but Vulkan just refuses to load. [edit] Just tried an older (1.something) version and it's working. It's just the latest one that's not working.
I am vulcan (64 bit) and everything is fine for me. I have a "clean" install with no tier addons or free dlc's, just what's on steam. I have a few more fps with vulcan and it's very very stable. On DX9 64 bit it is also very very stable and compared to vulcan 5 or 8 fps less. Obviously DX12 is completely unplayable, minus 50% fps from stuttering and missing textures. Personally I would be DTG I will switch to vulcan that would fix the game for everyone while waiting to find a solution for DX12. It's very easy to install the vulcan api, 2 files are enough !! Of course I will also make sure to let people choose between vulcan and DX12. I'm not against updating but I still think he should have made a beta before causing such a disaster! I still hate to have new menus, improved graphics, even greater stability, new lighting .. etc etc. In short to conclude, I did not repair the thumbnails because if DTG releases a patch for that I fear that what you have done is a blow for nothing! Anyway for me there is no problem with freez only with smokebox and union workshop. For the moment I stay on vulcan which works very well (at worst DX9 64 bit). My personal advice for everyone and even for DTG. - Switch to vulcan, it's more stable. - blocked your fps at 60 (the cg will not burn anymore) - wait for DTG to release new patches in BETA please that we can at least test before breaking the game again. -avoid reinstalling free dlc for now! Good game everyone I add my specs: i5 12400- rtx 3060(12go ) -16 go mem - ssd 1to crucial- cm B660 Pro
Well... that would make the game worthless for me then, as I have the entire AP catalogue, and a great many JT products, as well as most ATS products. I'll just stick to DX9, as that's working fine, and Vulkan was only a slight FPS increase. Well... obviously, not for me it wouldn't
. I tried with my personal free route which uses a lot of free assets and apart from 1 missing texture on a signaling nacel everything works fine. I don't have any dlc from "AP" so I can't tell you if it works or not. On the other hand, I have assets from other publishers such as JTG or VR or machine rail or vulcan production .. etc etc and some have the problem of thumbnails and others have no problems (except VR which no longer has type security AFB! but it works) But as you said, in DX9 64 bit the game is very stable and there is only a small handful of additional fps with vulcan.
The uninstall /reinstall does NOT remove your AP and JT product! Uninstall using the Steam option then just reload ALL Steam product. Worked well for me.
I am referring to you suggesting that DTG include Vulkan, as you said it would be good for everyone... which it wouldn't. A clean install, while leaving the AP products in place on the drive, will stop many of them working, especially things like AP Weather and Track Enhancement, and Signals EP. It would obviously also stop many other third party addons from working. Been there, done that a million times. This is why I have a back up of the last known good configuration.
To solve the problems with the Image.png files I removed all Freeware routes from railworks/content/routes to another drive I then tested what was left and the payware routes from DTG and others and they are OK. Using Paint.net I opened each of the freeware routes that I had copied them saved them again overwriting the original. I then copied all those routes back to railworks/content/routes. I presume you are starting in 64bit as I found 32bit would crash.
I have to say that with so many issues, including ones affecting official DLC, either a fix or an option using Steam Beta to use the old version should be considered an urgent priority.
I did test this yesterday and I lost about 30% framerate, compared to the default TSC 64 bit. I'll stick to DX9 64 bit.
I have the same issue cannot do anything with it at the moment. Not sure how to fix my issue what did you do go to an earlier version of vulcan?
While I didn't encounter any real FPS loss from briefly testing the Vulkan plugin today (using the most recent release on GitHub), I also didn't notice any improvements either over the default D3D9 plugin. The only thing I did notice is the Vulkan plugin uses around an extra 1GB of RAM and double the VRAM compared to vanilla D3D9. Granted my test was only the first 5 minutes of my scenario I used for my test of the DX12 experimental plugin yesterday, which was just sitting at Kings Cross for 5 minutes while trains arrived and departed (both plugins stayed steady around 30FPS). It could be that this is more CPU limitation due to the old game engine rather than anything directly with the plugins, so I'll have to do full runs of the scenario to test them properly.
Tried the DX12 but as others found framerate dropped significantly. I have everything on high settings and couldn't see any reason to stop using the DX9 64 bit which has since Thursday given good performance.
In which folder is this DX9 64bit file in the game? I have d3d9.dll.old and d3dx9_26.dll.old in the Railworks folder
Does anyone hsppen to know if the Vulkan plugin still causes problems with the AP Sky and Weather Pack 2.0? When I tried it, in wet or foggy weather many scenery items such as trees and pylons had prominent white borders around them which rather ruined the look of the game. I did get better FPS with Vulkan but not so much that I was willing to put up with the visual glitch.
The strange thing - I don't have a d3d9.dll file that is in use or the Vulkan file - I used to have that. And I don't use any third party enhancing files - RW Enhancer and the link
How weird. I'm not at the gaming PC right not, but tomorrow I will move the .dll and see if mine still runs.
I have both the d3d9 and the d3d9_26 dll files in my RW folder. Is one of them vulcan? Is one of them (or both) not supposed to be there?
Someone, or something has renamed them with .old at the end, which is what you would normally do to retain your original before installing a file of the same name, like you would when installing VKDX/Vulkan.
You need to reinstall weather, track and signals. I found my 800EP was also messed up. Everything else I’ve seen so far is good. ps You also need to download the 313 again from AP. They confirmed that was the only thing broken by DX12.
One of those old versions were altered when I installed the Dx9 64 version - now neither of the versions are active. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/dxvk.56864/#post-511900
I just moved d3d9.dll from my Railworks folder, and the game still ran. Interestingly though, it ran without Reshade, which I have set to run on DX9, so not sure what's going on there actually.
Tl:dr Haven’t played TSC since the middle of last week (distracted by Fallout 4 and TSW) but is this borked update still live or has it been rolled back? If the former, I’m guessing nothing will happen today being a Bank Holiday in the UK. Typical as I was just getting back into TSC, bought a couple of DLC and even dabbled with a bit of route building. But I guess best left alone until this shishkebab is sorted.
What’s borked about it? Honestly, thus far I’ve had no issues at all (to be fair last time I installed it I just left all the route images as they were which has clearly helped).
Just to post contra-wise. I spent the day yesterday rebuilding a quick drive scenario for Port Rd/WLOS that has been a long time CTD problem inducing issue. In doing this I ran tests using BMG / SSS / Victory Works / Michael Whitley / Caledonian Works / SHG Ivatt/ AP Mk1 and AP class 37 etc. These are all quite heavily scripted assets and seemed to be working OK so far as I can tell. I also seem to have resolved the CTD issue but I don't think that was anything to do with the update !! The point I am making is that whilst there are clearly some issues I don't think that TSC is broken as some of the posts on here seem to imply. Lots of the issues seem to relate to third party content and that was always ( and has always ) been an issue for every update and will always be an issue as third party developers bring us great content by pushing the boundaries of what is possible using innovative approaches to the various bits of code. I think its inevitable that some of this gets affected by updates. I think its pretty unreasonable really to expect anyone to develop the core TSC product without the risk of impacting on third party products. I also think that ( as an occasional asset builder ) its not very nice to see folks demanding that their particular favourite asset is fixed right now or throwing various toys out of the pram along with accusations that DTG are somehow remiss for not having tested the update against their favourite third party product. Yes, there are glitches ( like the .png and the tracking on the button 4 view ) but these are glitches and hardly cause for claiming incompetence or that the software is somehow broken.
Has the update broken the AP Weather Enhancement Pack v2? On compatible routes I end up with grey skies with anything other than “AP Fair Cloud” set and I have reinstalled the pack plus graphics card patch since the TSC update. Has anyone had any issues before I ask AP?
It's Reshade that puts the d3d9.dll into the Railworks folder, the vanilla game doesn't have it, so if you've removed it you've effectively uninstalled Reshade
Several pages preceding seem to indicate all is not well for quite a few people. Kind of counts as "borked" in my book...
The only issue was with the image thumbnails, and so far as I could tell, it was only third party ones, not DTG ones.
Thanks. Seems i might have been running reshade for several years without knowing How about the d3d9_26.dll. What does that do?
If you have any Freeware routes you will find an Image.png file in the Route Folder. Open that file with a suitable editor - I use Paint.net as its easy and Free! Then use Save As to save the file again as Image.png and it will overwrite and save as a basic version. Some times these files have been saved as an interlaced version - whatever that means - too technical for me
You’re more than wise enough to know that pages and pages of complaining aren’t necessarily a cast iron indicator that anything is actually wrong Genuinely, with the main update I’ve had no issues (that weren’t related to Steam doing a file verify). The only genuine issue I know of is this route image thing. I’ve just left mine ‘as they come’ and haven’t had a problem. Aside from that, the DX12 build returns poor fps so I won’t use it for now, but then that’s my feedback. Very much a work-in-progress! If you have AP packs you’ll need to reinstall weather, track and signals. My 800EP seemed to have ended up with half DTG and half AP (which I assume is down to the Huddersfield update) but a reinstall of the EP fixed it. They’ve also fixed the Class 313 as it didn’t play nice with DX12 so that needs a fresh download. Just have an up-to-date backup before you do it and you’ll be golden.
Incorrect. There have been many reports of lua scripts being broken, including those of DTG-published DLC.
Has anyone tried a rolling start scenario? I just ran an AP one which the description claimed should be rolling, but wasn't - but then I have swapped a bunch of stock so it may have become messed up in that process.
I loaded up a Victory Works scenario with a rolling start and it ran fine with no problems. I think your problem does indeed lie in the swapping of stock.
I think i can confirm that the “slim code” version of TSC 64bit runs smoother than the old one. So when the bugs have been ironed out it’ll be worth the “agony”.
