    Had a quick drive on one of the TSW3 routes earlier and I had to turn it off in the end as I just couldn't be doing with the awful lighting, I mean TSW2 lighting wasn't good but I think it's just got worse, overbright nuclear washed out plastic toy looking is the only way I can describe it.

    The awful lighting is not exclusive to TSW3, I have Police Simulator (an Unreal game) and it's just a bad, infact somewhat worse because at 11:45pm it was bright and sunny. I also have another unreal game 'The Quarry' however the lighting on that is great.

    I think the lighting needs another major overhaul.

    Dunno if you're on console or not, but one thing I've found with a lot of games on PS5 (Unreal or not) is that the sky is basically white until you move the camera up past the horizon, at which point it takes on some semblance of blue. This also happened on TSW2 PS4 & PS5 versions. I've found that temporarily turning off HDR on the console alleviates this somewhat, at the expense of other scenery and colours looking a bit muted. Probably won't help the plasticky thing for you, but might be worth a shot (I assume this can be modfified using the engine.ini on PC versions)

    I'm on PC, I say I'm on PC (sorry couldn't resist seeing your username)* - I've used numerous mods on the ini files and although it's helped some things distant drawing, colourwise it's just yuk

    * for those who've never seen Coronation Street, you won't get it

    Now then young Scorpion, I say now then young Scorpion, I suppose if you have an HDR monitor you could try turning HDR on it off? More uncommon than, I say more uncommon than tellies though

    No, monitor is a few years old now and is not HDR compatible. Looking to treat myself to a new 4K one this Xmas

    Put this in your engine.ini file: (under [SystemSettings] if you don't already have that heading)

    r.TonemapperGamma=1.65
    r.BloomQuality=3
    r.Color.Max=0.8
    r.Color.Mid=0.4
    r.Color.Min=0.004

    You can play with the parameters depending on your particular monitor and display settings.

    That's improved it, although still not great, it's made it more playable now.

    Yea the lighting is all over the place. Looks like a cartoon trees look terrible. Tsw2 looked a lot better and the older routes looked a lot better than they do today. The detail has gone for me. The care has gone.

    Yep, it’s woeful IMO.

    I basically have to run all my routes with max cloud cover now, it’s the only way to stop everything looking so washed out, but even then it’s not great.

    DTG need to give us some lighting options.

    I quite like the updated lighting. Looks more realistic to me.

    Same here. Don't really get all of the negative comments on TSW3's lighting. It looks leaps and bound better and more realistic to me.

    Just jumped into journey mode on SOS, this was my first service. Does anyone want to guess what train I was driving. I'm still trying to find out, and where I am.

    Lighting is so inconsistent at times compared to some of the awesomeness elsewhere

    I fired up NTP last night after a while of being sun blasted on SEHS and it was a revelation is the lighting.
    The overall lighting on NTP is so much better.
    SEHS only looks better at dawn and dusk.

    Even full overcast at mid day in TSW3 is like a nuke blast.

    The game needs a HDR slider or something as all my other games look great.

    It can't be too much of an ask for a game to have a brightness option or gamma. I'm not re adjusting my properly calibrated OLED for one game that has no brightness or gamma sliders.

    If you're on PC and hopefully have GodMode installed, you can achieve better contrast using the "Skylight Intensity" slider.

    By default, the ambient light is too strong, affecting areas that are not directly lit by the sun and whose brightness is determined by the diffuse ambient light.

    Adjusting this slider will not make the sky itself darker, but will darken shadow areas. This is very helpful if your cab is too bright.

    Here's a better example, as the overbright cab is much more noticeable when using LightClouds.

    The overwhelming whiteout effect just obliterates detail on textures too, so they lose any illusion of depth and every surface appears so much flatter as a result. Or, just as bad, the overtuned specularity of incongruous materials results in stuff like shiny glowing, reflective mortar between bricks in a wall, like I've previously shown in threads here by replicating the same screenshot in TSW2 and TSW3 in Boston station.

    Been out of the loop for a bit, needed to upgrade our PC just a little, but as I read through all my notifications I ran across your post, and this all hinges on your available space, Funds, and your PC / GPU to drive the monitor. I got lucky a several months ago, they must have been doing a sale? I purchased a second monitor for half of the current going price and from the first one I bought. It's free Sync only, No Gsync for me /: but that is okay. You might want to have a look see at the CORSAIR XENEON 32UHD144
    right out of the box it gives a really good image and it has both HDMI and display port.
