    Has anyone played this recently???

I've just tried to play it and it's nigh on impossible... The AWS volume is barely audible, you're driving in the dark so can't see the AWS sunflower, it's just horrible as you keep getting AWS brake applications because you can't hear the AWS horn!!!

Does anyone know of a fix please???

    Cheers
    Eric

You can see this in the slide deck.
    - DO NOT touch the sander button - it is linked to the AWS Disconnect! - Button C (AWS Change End Lever)
    - Move the direction into Forward and wait for the Green Light. Put power on to first power setting after 'ON' and then release brakes
    - Take your time as there are no point awarded in this scenario for time!
    - There is a red light which you can Alt Tab through
    - If you must stop (the AWS Acknowledge is not obvious) wait until fully stopped, move Reverser to Engine Only, click on Overload Reset 'R', move Reverser to Forward, Hold down Train Brake Release (for some time!) until ready to go, put power on to first power setting after 'ON'
    - Some of the speed signs are doubled up (e.g. a 60/65 with both numbers on top of each other). Hard to see with the rain!

    Good luck

Will Ctrl-D not disable safety systems?

Ah okay then. Strange that there is no function on a lot of the traction in TSC to isolate the safety systems for a more relaxed drive (the 350 on Euston to Birmingham is the same with its near silent vigilance) whereas in TSW they are off by default and have to be switched on if you wish to use them.

You can normally switch off the DSD as it does nothing to help the driver but you can not normally isolate the AWS.
Although the Class 47 with this route seems to have the ability to Isolate the AWS with the LH handle

    Thanks Kilt,

Did you have an issue though there the AWS warning horn was barely audible???

I don't have an issue driving the 47, just the fact I can't hear the AWS horn on the approach to restrictive signals / speed reductions...

Yes the AWS is barely audible and the signage of change in speed was muddled (two numbers on top of each other i.e. Freight / Passenger speeds). Not a very well put together scenario. The things we must do just to get a Steam Achievement

    EDIT
I looked at the Class 47 Horn Sound
    DTG\Class47Pack04\Audio\RailVehicles\Diesel\Class 47\Cab\T_47_HW_SunHorn.dav
And played outside the game it seems loud enough so it might be in the Cab Audio Settings

I'm going to copy in the sound from the Kuju 47 or 37 and see if that is louder.

    EDIT 2
That works ok and the AWS Horn Sound is a lot clearer.
how are you at copying files?

    Hi Peter...

I'm not too bad if you have the time to walk me through it (and I'dvery much appreciate it!!!)...

I had a similar issue with the Class 58 ages ago and managed to change the AWS Clear sound from a bell to the "electronic sonar ping"...

    Hi Eric,

Try this first - extract this Assets file and copy it to your Railworks folder
Then try a Free Roam and see if it is any better.
I'm using the same horn from the Kuju Class 47 which is a clearer sound

    Peter

    Hi Peter...

not had a chance to try it yet... I've been doing nightshifts in Manchester the last few days...

Maybe get a chance this afternoon or tomorrow as it's my last overnight for this week...

Seems a bit better, but the AWS 'Clear' bell is still far to quiet, if I get time I'll edit the volume levels in the .bins when I'm off work next I think.

I only added the AWS Horn file from the Kuju Class 47 to the folder.
Not sure about changing the Volume in the bin files

    Peter...

I've not forgotten about the "mod" you posted... I've backed up my files from the Railworks folder but am now sitting on the fence debating whether or not to run the core update...

If I could run TSC without doing the update then I'd give it a bash but am not sure if I can open TSC without it updating...

It you start the Steam Client then click on Steam in the Top Left and Go Offline.
The game will start but to be double sure unplug your Internet Cable.

I have done the update which caused some problems with the Image File you see when picking a route.
Most of the problems are with Freeware Routes - they Payware routes seem ok.

    Hi Peter...

I tried what you suggested with the file you posted... Unfortunately for me, it didn't seem to make any difference...

The BMG 47 on the Welsh Marches Line seems also affected albeit for some reason not as bad... There was a slight improvement if I wear headphones but it's not my preferred option...

Another thing I noticed was the wiper speed seems linked to the power handle... The more the power handle is opened, the faster the wipers operate... Frustrating to say the least...

    Thanks for trying anyway

    Eric

I noticed that problem with the wipers running slow when coasting.

Reef said he might look at the Audio file to see if if the volume can be increased

    A bit beyond me.

I think the wiper behaviour on the 47 (and some other diesels of that generation) is actually prototypical, which IIRC was confirmed by an ex-BR driver on the ATS Facebook group.

Having spent 18 years of my railway career as a Guard and 10 years as a Driver I have never seen that before.
The wipers are driven by Air Pressure which did not vary too much.
In real life you opened the Wiper Valve and dependant on how much regulated the speed of the wipers.

I beg to differ and would agree with 749006 comments...

Why on earth would wiper speed be linked to the throttle position???

I may well have misunderstood or misremembered what I read. It is a really odd thing. In game, would you need to deliberately script the wiper speed to depend on throttle position? It seems like something a dev would have to go out of their way to set up which is what made me think there might be something to it, but as my source is a half remembered Facebook group thread, I'm very happy to stand corrected.

I know this thread is a month old but I'm having a somewhat related issue in the 47/8 on the Huddersfield route - the AWS warnings seem to cancel themselves nearly instantly?

You mean the Horn Cancels itself? - that does not normally happen as the brakes apply
The Bell just sounds briefly and does not need acknowledgement.

    Reef...

Do you know anything about raising the AWS volume substantially on the locos used in these scenarios???

I think someone else said you may know about how its done...???

    Cheers

I did have a quick look but couldn't find anything at the time, hopefully I can get a better look when I'm not so busy but truth be told I'm just fumbling around in the dark with it.

    Eric,

Do a quick drive with the Kuju Class 47 over the route - Stalybridge to Huddersfield should do.
What is the volume like using that loco?

No, I can tell the difference between a bell and a horn - the AWS indicator on the HUD also appears and disappears in a split second.

I think the main issue is that the DTG Class 47/8 is just HORRIBLY loud so you can barely hear the AWS, no proper cab occlusion.

I ran this scenario a few days ago and managed to finish it.
The AWS sounds are horribly low so you really have to watch the screen carefully for any warnings.

Are you running it in Expert Mode or Simple Mode?

The other thing is the Q button on your Keyboard might be stuck
