I usually look forward to train sim world content however since march my expectations have been broken by buggy incomplete routes, so when the new uk route was put upon the roadmap and today announced I was appalled to learn it’s only 14 miles long and doesn’t even come with a new train, just a reskinned 323, this is unacceptable that we will have to pay £30 for 14 miles which is nearly £2 per mile, and freight is non existent in this route irl, i and many others who have played the game since 2018 are slowly losing heart and interest in this which we have spent our hard earned money upon, how kings it gonna be until focus leave, before or after most of us in this community, sort it out
Yep, could've done the Styal Line instead, more mileage to stretch the 323s legs a bit and run at higher speeds than the Glossop Line, this isn't good enough DTG, very disappointed in you this time
We don't know the price of the route yet. Where did you read that it will be 30 quid? And what's with the XBox tag? What does your post have to do with XBox?
I haven't seen a price for it yet and for all we know there could be another (unannounced) piece of rolling stock included. I feel this may be a gap filler which is hopefully going to precede a really stunning British route from DTG during the summer.
Thought this was JT or Thomsons first route, as first routes are usually quite short (rivets iow) but i have to agree this is not worthy for a DTG route. One existing train with a different paintjob and seat moquette, and 14odd miles with no other layer opportunitys than the RHTT as always is a massive step down. Tbf a disappointing roadmap except for the german loco maybe, and skyhook finally admitted to themselves what a broken mess the 187 is. It would need reworking from the ground up, not a few cosmetic fixes. But maybe this is DTG preparing for the summer release. The routes before TSW 2 were ECW, RRO and HRR, all relavitely short, the same before TSW 3, so maybe......
Okay so for those wondering where I read it got £30 it’s common sense they release routes at £30 and have done since the start of the year, and as for why I used an Xbox tag is because I’m playing on Xbox
This is about the third thread regarding this new UK route but without repeating what I put in the others, yes very disappointing and I can't possibly see how they plan to sell this for £20, let alone £30.
IOW is short, albeit shorter than this one, and it was sold at a lower price. Let’s wait and see before complaining about the price. I agree about the train though. A reskinned version of an existing one that was only released a short time ago is not on.
IOW is kind of unique and iconic and on the first effort, Rivet were cutting their teeth on route building so the shortness in that instance can kind of be forgiven.
Yes and if this a new third party cutting their teeth, Id buy it to support them. But given that is from DTG and considerably shorter than Niddertalbahn then for it to even make any sense to me would have to be of equal quality, which is unlikely. And at least Niddertalbahn has a freight service.
You're not wrong. But that statement, every time it's uttered always comes across as 'quit complaining, don't voice your opinions and keep your mouth shut'. It also comes across as a bit brown nosey and may as well be a tag line for any company, 'Don't ask for better, just don't buy it.'
Here's where we talk Glossop in tonight's Roadmap Stream. https://www.youtube.com/live/zDIn-9ISfIg?feature=share&t=2614 (Goes into a little bit about why this route, and some top-level details). To confirm: the pricing will be £19.99 (other currency conversions we'll share closer to the time).
is there any reason as to why we are getting a shorter, less iconic route in comparison to usa and germany’s recent dtg routes being a decent length and rather iconic in their own ways?
Still on the fence about this even if we get a pre order discount. There are plenty of other < 20 mile routes around the UK which would have made a far more interesting study. Another heritage line for one. If it was a question of recycling a train, then the 101 on a pre Metro rendition of the North Tyneside Loop would have had me reaching for my Steam Wallet, or they could have done 20 miles worth of route around Knottingley given us the power stations and a few coal mines to play with. I think it's more the fact it's yet another electrified commuter route rather than the length as much as anything.
Dtg are close to being in a situation they simply can’t get themselves out of. Something, I don’t know what but something needs to change quickly
Fair do 20 quid sounds reasonable providing this gets a high amount of detail. As Vern says above it being another modern electric commuter doesn't soften the blow either.
it’s sad tho really that we feel this way a lot more often than not, we just want something iconic from the uk, as germany and usa have received recently from dtg, rather than a 14 mile recycled train route, despite the price
Yeah, I mean a chunk of the ECML would go down a treat being one of the most requested UK routes. The Exeter to Plymouth, Cardiff to Bristol, WCML etc. All of which are in demand. I don't get the decision if people are repeating what they'd like to see over and over again and then DTG just decides to pick something rather esoteric instead. Sure they can do what they like, however it makes suggestions redundant then.
Sorry if it came across that way, but the way the OP posted it, it felt like it was a complaint as if they must put up with the lacklustre effort and buy it. Sure, I'm all for a good bashing on DTG as they have well earned it. And seeing that the roadmap stream confirmed that Focus will allow them to continue as they have since the TSW3 launch, this franchise is pretty much a dead duck in my eyes. I just peruse here from time to time to see if they will eventually come up with the TSW2 fixes they love to promise are coming at some point in the next century (I won't hold my breath). They've made their peace at having alienated a big chunk of their customer base. I guess Focus are just the next suckers in line to have fallen for the trick.
Dtg did say nothing changes in the short term. In the long term, things may change once focus shares their expertise with dtg.
It wasn't about using a recycled train, watch the link JD posted. Matt confirms that he was happy to learn the route uses the Class 323 as a lot of time was spent on it when making BCC.
Don't see a problem with this as a line, or the traction being proposed as a standalone, full run route if the timetable is as per life. I know people want mainline running with loads of action and preferably long intercity runs at high speed, but remember we also want routes with some real life accuracy to them I'm quite surprised not many people have posted about how we have another mainline terminus in this pack which will have 1 maybe 2 trains in it (if they add the 158 in the wrong livery for some colour). ManPicc is going to be VERY large to have a few 323s rolling around in it. As they said last night, I see this in a similar vein to Cathcart or BCC and both of those have been "acceptable" if not joyous
Quite I often say the CCL and BCC are amongst my favourite routes as they are complete and this route is the same. Who's to say that something more substantial isn't round the corner anyway, they don't make routes this short very often so maybe it is a filler route building up to something "greater". The sim in my eyes should offer something for everyone, I would too like to see a decent length mainline route soon but not an empty one.
The route seems to be "low hanging fruit", i.e. something easy to do, to maximize profit. Probably asked themselves what route can they build quickly for an existing train. On one hand, it had to be modern and UK, so they don't need too much time to research track and stations. On the other, they probably looked for something short and without additional traction, so they avoid complex timetable. NOTE: These are my thoughts. I have no inside information.
Well actually most of the EMR 158s are still in EMT livery, so the livery is right just the branding would be wrong.
I do wish people would think before they type... Creating 14 new stations, including Manchester Piccadilly, all of the junctions and signalling, presumably Ardwick depot and the other sidings and assets on the route (including legacy catenary which is right next to the route so cannot be ignored)... Yeah, totally easy and so much less work than other routes where they can auto gen scenery and so on...
To be honest as long as we get completely new content I don't mind more routes like this in between, especially for some of the existing better quality rolling stock. I would like to see some routes like this for the 465 and 313/314 and the 158, where suitable routes exist of course, even for the 101 and also for some of the German content too.
"Northern Trains commenced operating the Northern franchise on 1 March 2020, taking over from Arriva Rail North." - Taken from Wikipedia
Ah yes ofcourse the Arriva logo was dropped from the livery, after the EMT logos was changed for EMR logos by a matter of months. Don't you just love the ever changing nature of the British railway scene and constant flux of TOCs Great for spotters, impossible for sim makers
I’m sure a little crossover between the lines of East Midlands Railway branded as East Midlands Trains wouldn’t cause too much of an issue between players. I’d rather the extra AI traffic than to worry about small branding being incorrect, to which it wouldn’t be included at all. Most of our 158s are still in the older East Midlands Train Stagecoach livery anyway.
I've looked at the pictures of the stations along this route, and they're not much different from existing stations on other UK routes. Don't they have copy/paste in the UE4 editor? Creating the route, skinning the 323, with a simple timetable will definitely be easier than creating the route, at least one new train, and a complex timetable. I am ready to see people disappointed in having to pay 20 quid for it!
And if you squint a bit, a HST looks a bit like a pendolino... I'm not sure you have the gist of this TSW content creation malarkey
Absolutely agree - I would love to see a brand-new route which focuses around the 465 as it's such an amazing train, plus thanks to SEHS and London Commuter, the route would also not be empty thanks to the plethora of existing locos.
