In just the past day or two, it appears that the #4 Camera "Drive-By-View" in TSC has been changed to a super fast 2 to 3 second drive by instead of the classic 20 to 30 second drive by that we used to have. I loved the classic 20 to 30 second drive by view, and I seriously dislike this new "Forza - Train" style super fast drive by view. Do you like this new 2 to 3 second Drive-By-View? I believe the new functionality is unintended and a bug. See announcements about a fix being in testing.
I hope you're right. Although, the original "bug" was that we lost the wonderful panning as the train approached the view point, and then drove by with the panning following your engine. Now, we still don't have the panning, and the view now only lasts 2 to 3 seconds. So, I'm concerned that we are now seeing the so called fix. I hope not.
Why did this need a poll? You act like it was an intentional change that needs lobbying to revert it when it's clearly reported by DTG as an unintentional bug and is being looked into.
I honestly don’t even use camera 4. Much ado about very little in my humble opinion. It’s like looking in a mirror.
Sorry, but I don't see the purpose of this poll? There is no "new" #4 camera. It is simply bugged and not working as intended.
The '4' trackside camera's definition file is here: Assets/Kuju/RailSimulatorCore/Cameras/TrackSideCamera001.bin. You can open and edit this file in TS-Tools. For a change, I've edited the value StepAhead to 300 (meters I presume) and now a whole 8 carriage HST passes by before the camera jumps to a new position. I've noticed it still lands you at trackside, in the bushes, down the foot of the embankment occasionally. But without panning, it is not what it used to be. These camera definition files haven't changed over the TS/RW/TSC versions, and mixing different lines between blueprints is not advised since the gamemanager code interpreting the blueprints has been tightened and streamlined, giving us this FPS increase.
I'm concerned the second change to the 4 Camera was intentional. The first change following the update was that we lost panning. But we still had a fairly long run time of approx. 20 seconds (depending on the train's speed). But then the behavior of the 4 Camera changed a second time a few days ago, being the run time reduced to 2 to 3 seconds or less. TSW3 is all about the cameras being closer to the train with the inability to zoom out as far as we can in TSC. And I get it. Closer cameras mean faster action. I could be wrong, but I feel like TSW3 is aimed at younger audiences with faster action. I dislike the closer cameras in TSW3 so much, I've stopped playing it. And I'm concerned that the faster action philosophy may now be creeping into the 4 Camera in TSC. I hope I'm wrong, but it doesn't hurt to let the customers share their opinions on changes to TSC. I drive about 75% of the time in external views (primarily using the 2 and 4 cameras). So, changing the 4 camera from a 20 second drive by to a 3 second drive by is a big deal to me. Other customers' mileage may vary, hence the poll
This is great info! Did your edit also change the starting position of the 4 Camera so the engine doesn't wiz past you in 3 seconds or less? Thanks!
I have no idea where you get this idea from, since TSW does not have a fly-by camera like TSC does with #4 cam. It never did. It only has a free cam that you can move independently of the train. And the only reason you can't zoom that far out in TSW is because invisible walls block you from entering areas that are not well detailed. Nothing about it creating "faster action". It changed because they are trying to fix it. Obviously it still does not work properly yet. I don't understand why you would think such an obviously broken behaviour is intentional.
Because of this quote from Matt Peddlesden... Regarding the change in the starting position of the 4 Camera in TSC the other day...code doesn't change by itself. And interestingly, the starting position of the 4 Camera in TSC now closely matches the starting position of the 8 Camera in TSW3. Yes, the 8 Camera in TSW3 is the free cam, but I believe it is also serving as a 6 year interim drive by camera. Don't get me wrong, I hope the change in the starting position of the 4 Camera in TSC the other day was a mistake. But I'm concerned it was intentional based on Matt's comment above.
But Matt has nothing to do with TSC he's the Executive Producer for Train Sim World, also on a related subject I have nothing to do with the wages department in the company I work for as a lorry driver, go figure it's the same company...
As reef says - i'm not in tune with anything going on with TSC anymore (havent been for a long time, busy enough on TSW ) - if there's changes happening on TSC that you don't like, please make sure you've expressed your feelings over on the TSC forums where Jamie and the gang can pass them on to the team that looks after TSC development. Matt.
DTG Matt Ok, Matt. I thought you were the big dog of all things to do with trains at DTG now. I'll leave you out of this discussion. Good luck with TSW3
Keep in mind it is a bank holiday weekend they may not be back in until Tuesday. Just a heads up incase you start a new thread and poll tomorrow as to why you have not had a reply or it’s been fixed yet :p
Comments from the Steam TSC Community regarding the new #4 Camera 2 to 3 second Drive By... x1Heavy - May 7 It's broken for sure. They should be able to put it back to where it was before the update. Thats one of the things I enjoy about the game, If I wanted to stop and stand in one spot and see the thing go buy I can by clicking the globe icon in the task bar. Brutalist Ape - May 8 I prefer the classic 'drive-by' view lasting 20 + seconds. I am very upset that this has been changed. I want DTG to undo this change and give us back the original camera.
And you are still going on about this - give DTG time to fix it Going on about it on this forum - EVERY DAY -won't get it fixed any quicker.
"OMG! He's posting again! Take the gruel you've been given and be satisfied with it, Oliver! And no, you can't have any more!"
Says the person with 805 posts in 5 1/2 years! I'm behind your pace! If I keep on at my current pace, I'll only have 680 posts in 5 1/2 years! I must find a way to catch up! And I certainly have no chance of catching up to 749006 with 7, 332 posts in just 6 1/2 years!
I think he's saying it's unfair to criticise him for posting a lot about one topic when you post a lot about everything.
Stop being a drama queen. They'll fix it. There are bigger problems to solve. It will be on a list... placed appropriately according to priority. Not having the F4 camera for a little while won't kill you
The strange thing is that it is easy to set the distance back to the old one - the only thing that needs fixing ( when it happens ) that no-one has found a way round to doing yet is the tracking.
When DTG find out what the problem is they will need to test it before updating to everyone. And they lost a days work because of the Bank Holiday - something people not from the UK might not know of.
Does anyone know if this was a progress update/report on troubleshooting efforts, or was this an actual update applied to the TSC runtime code? The second sentence says it is currently going through testing, but the post is in the style and thread of actual code updates to TSC... DTG JD Update - Friday 5th May, 2023 - 14:43 BST We believe we have a fix for the issues related to LUA issues (potential cause of the challenges players have been having with third-party content), #4 camera, a couple of crash issues. It is currently going through testing.
