If I mean "exotic", I mean something, that is different from the actual "felt standards". Here a few ideas: 1. ficitional route (similar to Holiday Express, but bigger - maybe with other themes) 2. very old, but exact historical route (like in the wild west, the beginning of steam engines or similar) 3. a "what if" route (like: what if the nuclear powered cargo loco (X-12) has been build) 4. routes worldwide/ in "far lands" * (Brazil, India, Africa; maybe: Japan*) [*except: you live there - then it's not far... But I would say: not so common in the worldwide mainstream; I added the "maybe" at Japan, because Japan is in a lot of video games mainstream - just missiong in TSW atm] 5. routes with famaus events/prototypes/... including fitting scenario-services (e. g. the TGV-highspeed run April.2007, or a route crossing the inner German border (so around 1970 or 1980); ==> this point also includes the question: how much politics are allowed (for you)? Let us hear your thoughts; do you also have other ideas for something "exotic"?
White Pass & Yukon would be interesting For historical maybe the Key System or North Shore Line And to satisfy my MSTS nostalgia, the Odakyu Railway All photos courtesy Wikimedia Commons
For a exotic suggestion. Oahu Railway & Land Company on the island of O'hau. Narrow Gauge US railroading in Hawaii.
How about Braunschweig Helmstedt Marienborn Magdeburg the main line to Berlin via Deutschen Demokratischen Republik Potsdam Berlin Wannsee British Sector. Remember US Berlin Duty train is paired up to a DB Baureihe 110.3 unlike the British train the Berliner which is a DB Baureihe 139/140 Fulfills

Concept (what if) Trains like the Intercity 250 and APT-S (production APT) Fictonal Routes are quite good as well (mardonshire from JT in TSC) Fun trains like the super class 47
TSC had a GT3 DLC that included a Fictional BR Blue paint, it would be cool if they did a What if dlc with that idea for TSW
-Here's a few of my suggestions for exotic operations on existing or future routes: -UP Rocket Train over Sherman Hill with either a UP C45ACCTE (ES44AC) or C45AH (ET44AC) and a consist of rocket booster cars (empty and loaded), boxcars for weight distribution, and the crew passenger car. This would also work on Horseshoe Curve with NS diesels. -NS Roadrailer Train for HSC with a new NS diesel (ET44AC, SD70ACU, SD70ACC, SD60E, etc.) -Nuclear Cask cars -Excursion Trains (UP 844, E9 A-B-A, and 4014; SP 4449; ATSF 3751/2926; N&W J 611; NKP 765; Milwaukee Road 261; NS and CSX business trains) -Fully operational crane car and boom car, plus an MOW consist -Operational rotary snow plow (perhaps this could be included in an SP or UP Donner Pass route DLC. -Suggestions for exotic and unique locos: -BR Class 55 Deltic -UP Gas Turbines (all versions) -SP Cab Forward -SP and D&RGW Krauss-Maffei ML-4000 Diesel Hydraulic -UP Giant Diesels Pack: GE U50 and U50C, Alco C855 A-B-A Set, EMD DD35, DD35A, and DDA40X -PRR S2 Steam Turbine and S1, T1, Q1, and/or Q2 Duplexes -Exotic Routes: -Chinese route -Russian route -Other European countries (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, The Netherlands) -Indian route -Japanese route -DM&IR route with iron ore operations -Ffestiniog -Cumbres and Toltec and/or Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Routes -White Pass and Yukon -Cass Scenic RR
For me, defo something from New South Wales in Australia, like for example Central to Berowra! (paintbrushguy I'm looking at you mate)
If the developers listen to community to have WCML Over Shap 1970s-1980s as the base game UK route you would have gotten class 370 APT. PTG Rail video on APT
I've already posted a suggestion that meets your point 5, but South Africa's Gautrain is another one I'd put out there that's in a completely new part of the world that's still doable in terms of route length (and using the Electrostar as a base for the EMU).
Don’t know if US vintage electric freight trains count as exotic, but I’d love to see some of the electrified sections of the Milwaukee Road. For example: Tsw: Milwaukee Road St. Pauls Pass And Other Sections Perhaps Millwaukee Road: Milw Avary To Drexel St. Paul Pass Early 70's Milwaukee Road Mountain Division - Between Harlowton, Mt And Avery, Id Source
Oh i love the idea of a route which crosses the border between BRD and DDR, but I wouldn’t say 1970-1980, but 1961 actually. That would be the chance to create German steam locomotives and maybe a narrative can be established with this route, like „you are a train operator from the socialist DDR, and your job is to bring trains into the BRD“. Then there could also be a chance to make a scenario for the day where the DDR closed it’s borders on the 13th of August 1961!
Which one of them are you thinking of Hof Gutenfürst Bebra Gerstungen Ludwigsstadt Probstzella Wolfsburg Obisfelde Büchen Schwanheide Video I opted for the one that the Americans and the British used to reach Berlin by train Helmstedt Marienborn. The way you can tell apart which one is an American Berlin Duty Train from a British Berlin Duty train the Berliner is looking at the electric locomotives DB Baureihe 110.3 Frankfurt and Bremerhaven Berlin Train US Army DB Baureihe 139 140 The Berliner Braunschweig Helmstedt. You can check my post about the Berlin Duty train the American version. If you were able to take more on to that topic you would find out that these American veterans and up taking the British train to Berlin because the American Train has to run to the Iron Curtain during the evening
I think there even was a film about a train which was supposed to cross the border when it closed, Imma look it up
Found it, it’s called „3 1/2 Stunden“ in German and it’s quite a good movie, for those who are interested in that time and can understand German (idk if it’s also available in English) it’s definitely recommended by me (although some stations irritated me)
I'd like to seem some white elephants and flying pigs, Starship Enterprise, the Liberator and Lady Penelope's pink RR ... let's first get the basics covered before wishing for exotic locomotives
I mentioned a few Ideas with the examples; here my ideas: - A nice what-if route would be a nuclear powered loco (X-12) which is highly "exotic" - I don't know, if there are enaugh informations for this loco, which was never build. - Also, if TSW goes much more into the steam loco direction: I think a "Wild West" route with a very authentic loco/train, environment and passengers would be nice (... but no bandits of course, please ) - maybe not that "exotic", but the German HSB ("Harzer Schmalspur Bahn") is a famous steam railway route in the "Harz" that also drives on the top of a famous mountain ("Brocken"); it is like 1100m high and so the train doesn't need cog railway parts - so it should work with the aviable physics in the game atm) Also special scenarios are possible, the train helps to fight forest fires by bringing water and equipment into hard-to-reach areas. - Some hydrogen-powered trains would be a more "modern" thing ... which does't mean I will stop to load coal in the historical routes/scenarios - The TGV highspeed run and the German border crossing are two ideas for special scenario-routes; but even more I would like to see other places in the world: brazil and india have huge railway infrastructures + as a big fan of Japan I need to add: Japan is a must-have for me: It could ... will work in historical but also in modern areas very well. P. S. I am open for a fictional route - if it fits/hits a comprehensible theme. Sounds good for me.
I think something in the old eastern region would count as exotic at this point. Any route in the old eastern region would be nice though something not london centric eould be preferable.
Something like the Liverpool Overhead Electric Railway would be neat. Failing that, I'd love to see a narrow gauge mine workings railway, like the Ravenglass and Eskdale, Ffestiniog (pre-closure) or something like the Hatchet-hill/ Maerdy dlcs from TSC.
I'd love to see the internal railway system of a major industrial site (e.g. steelworks) being done as it has plenty of scope for interesting vehicles and operations.
Stahlwerk Duisburg can work and trains there can then go onto HRR for Delivery eventually Rangierbahnhof Hagen Vorhalle via Hauptstrecke Bochum/Dortmund Hagen using Witten Hbf junction Video of HRR Duisburg ThyssenKrupp Stahlwerk railway
I'm assuming they mean as in a dlc based on part fiction-part factual events. So like the GT-3 (gas turbine train built like a steam engine, with tender and Gas Turbine engine in place of boiler) entered mainstream service, or something like the Sommerset & Dorset Joint Railway, but operating in 2020 (when it closed in the 1960s) etc.
You are correct how about the requested Manchester Piccadilly to Glossop and Hadfield Woodhead route running to Sheffield Victoria all on 25kv 50hz AC via Woodhead Tunnel and Penistone where the Penistone Line runs to Huddersfield to meet with NTP.
I'm afraid I don't know, to be fair? Possibly. I'd like to see long gone routes, before semi fictional ones, to be honest!
The ThyssenKrupp steelworks in Duisburg are actually one of the two steelworks I had in mind (the other one is HKM in the south of Duisburg where the rail operations are also in the hands of ThyssenKrupp). It would be a perfect addition to the suggested Hollandstrecke, as their internal rail network connects to the DB at Oberhausen West. Whilst their steel trains going east (mostly for ThyssenKrupp in Bochum and Dortmund and the marshalling yard in Wanne-Eickel) run via the goods lines of the northern Ruhrgebiet via Essen-Altenessen (there are no paths for the slow and heavy trains on the line via Mülheim), it would be certainly great fun to have process the trains the AI brings in and prepare them for the AI to take over. If you want some longer distance and "high speed" running with the TKSE G1206, I'd add the goods line south from Oberhausen West to Abzweig Tiefenbroich and the Angertalbahn to the limestone quarry at Flandersbach which caters for the fans of both a busy freight mainline and a relatively rural scenic branch line.
Thank you for telling me about that looks like it can link to my suggestion Hollandstrecke Duisburg Oberhausen Arnhem route merged with HRR Hollandstrecke Duisburg/Bochum-Oberhausen Arnhem. Speaking of G1206 is it related to the RRO G6 or not? If yes then the cab can be recycled. From what I understand looks like if you own Nahverkehr Dresden Tharandter Rampe Ruhr Sieg Strecke Hagen Finnentrop Siegen & Niddertalbahn Bundesbahndirektion Frankfurt 363 365 can run on to the aforementioned steelworks using a transition US996 freight car from the 189 Falrrs Iron Ore Wagons. Despite being seen inside the Rangierbahnhof Oberhausen West alongside the G6 if one has RRO owned. If this were to happen then HRR HDA merged HDBA simply become the International equivalent of Tees Valley Line which has Redcar British Steelworks.
Correct. Something like planed routes, that were never build - or build in an other (more borring ? or much smaller) form. Or: Technologies, that were planed but never used for trains; or only for prototypes. Sure, the transition (between factual and fictional) is fluid; also the weighting of how much fact and how much is "extrapolated" fiction. ~ e. g. Fireless steam locomotives are an example for the "fluid" situation: They exist and work, but were very rarely used in "real" rail transport. For a more factual route the "Großkraftwerk Mannheim" could be used, in which a few fireless locomotives are still operating. A "what-if"-scenario could use the question: "what if: these type of locomotives were improved and used much more in the "real" rail traffic?". How such rail traffic would look like should be presented on the basis of facts. (Unless it's supposed to be a completely fictional scenario.) ... ... at least - that's what a "what-if" scenario is for me
An 'exotic' route I'd love to see replicated in TSW is the Tocopilla Nitrate Railway in Chile. A high altitude mountainous/desert route opened in 1890 and lastly run by SQM, the current largest producer of Lithium in the world. Unfortunately it closed in 2015 due to extensive damage following heavy rainfall. It's 141 miles of track served to ferry caliche ore to processing plants & Nitrates to the port of Tocopilla. Plenty of steep gradients & sharp curves on this one, plus the necessary switchback to actually get down the mountain to the port below (as you can see in the picture). The gauge is 3 feet 6 inches, has nice mix of traction, AC & Diesels (needed as some sections weren't electrified). Any excuse to bring in an AC boxcab of course.
