During one of the recent previews of the route (MML if Im not wrong), participants underline the possibility to drive the train with driver's doors open to allow louder sound. Is it only me who found it both ridiculous and concerning? Such idea stand opposite to any reasonable sim playgaming and suggest DTG goes shortcuts solutions for the important issues.

I am not sure what your point is here really mate. The sound is undoubtedly going to be louder with the door open and if having the door open is your concern it was certainly something that was done on the HSTs on hot days to improve ventilation even if those up above didn't like it. Obviously I would never run with the door open in real life.;)

My point is it should be done by audio settings, not by ridiculing simulation, just that.

    Yes

Old trains are hot and some drivers run with doors open

It would be ridiculous and concerning if opening the doors did not increase the volume of the noise

The sounds for in the cab are roughly correct as to what they were in real life. The reason people wanted to open the door for sound is that the closed cab doors, as in real life, block out or muffle a fair amount of exterior sound (like the engines). There is absolutely no problem here mate, just a simple misunderstanding I think.

Mate, if you listened to what was actually said in the livestream you would have understood why they have let us open the doors for more sound.

I see your point BUT the inproper sound effects should be managed by a mixer in audio-setting or by devs (to be able to choose what amount of train noise you want to have) not by using windows or doors (sic). If the train has no door blockades it should be able to drive it doorsopen - thats not a feautre for preview, thats just proper simulation, like spinning wheels or pantographs up or etc. and this game is simulator or not? Excuse of refreshing interior is as inproper as cutting off few last cars on the hill because the train is underpowered or fixing banking comm bugs by the window (sd70ace or Clinchfield sic) etc. Sorry guys I will keep my point, for me it seems like weak try (shallow effort) to fulfill demands/expectations.

But it is not a simple volume setting, the doors and windows also serve as a low-pass filter, changing the sound stage a lot.

Tbh, I much prefer the doors/windows approach, as it is much faster for me, as a player, to switch this during the run. I can start the run with windows open, and should the enviroment become too noisy once I pickup the speed, I can just click the window. I don't need to open the options and fiddle with the settings.

And DTG is trying to do it correctly, that is, the cabin to be as noisy, as it is irl. The thing is, that modern cabins are quiet, because the focus on driver comfort has increased a lot in the recent decades. This is often in contrast with what the players enjoy, as they would like a more noisy enviroment, becaue it can server as a supplement for other senses that are missing in the experience (i.e. you cannot feel train vibration).

So having a cabin of a modern commuter train to be a noisy enviroment is as unrealistic, as running with the doors open in such trains...

Eh. It doesn't really matter. I would rather open windows and doors by clicking on them than have to go through settings to adjust sound for each individual loco since they all sound different. I don't think it's that different from driving in external camera view. But sometimes I don't want that, so doors or windows are next if it's too quiet.

On most trains you just have to open a window, which RL drivers often do. But the HST doesn't have openable windows- so drivers, in real life, would open the door on hot days (yes, this was against regs).
Now, personally I can't stand loud cabs so I never open anything (except when shunting), but there is no violation of some "rules of simulation" when people choose to do it.
