New to the Forum so forgive me if there is already a thread on this; I’ve noticed recently much mentioning of TSW4 coming soon. Is this a reality or is just assumptions that this will be the next big update for TSW? I’m personally running TSW3 on Xbox Series X and am surprised that TSW4 would be arriving so soon. Thoughts anybody?
I really hope tsw4 is not a thing. TSW 3 was very pointless and was nothing more than a paid update with arguably worse features and more rushed dlc than tsw2
I would expect only TSW4 next year. For this September we probably get something similar to Rush Our, a DLC with routes for the 3 main countries.
Going on the rate that a new TSW has come out, the cycle is around 2 years between each version. So, based on that, if there was going to be a TSW4, it would be 2024 for a release. However, we do not know what DTG/Focus have planned so until there's anything official announced, I wouldn't believe anyone who says TSW4 is coming and DTG are working on TSW4.
No need to apologise- most recently mentioned on MML update but as I’ve been looking through random threads I’ve seen “TSW4” mentioned more often.
I think the mentions are an expectation, rather than a desire. But it seems very unlikely DTG would risk trying to make TSW an annual iteration. While TSW3 had some nice upgrade ideas, I feel like we're not really in a better place overall because of all the issues that have arisen. Personally I'd really prefer if we could just stick with TSW3 as a 'base' game and add core improvements over time that could benefit all DLCs - but from general comments made by the DTG team, it's more like every DLC is a complete standalone pillar. But, in truth, none of us really know - so we could all be wrong.
It's a running joke Last year DTG said they were pausing new releases to work on updates, then they put TSW3 out - which some portrayed as a paywall to new content, didn't fix many of the TSW2 issues, indeed introduced new ones etc etc So now, any time there's a "pause" in releases or updates the "theory" is that TSW4 is being worked on.
This is just an assumption. Often many "assumptions" and opinions on here become fact until shown otherwise. I would say it is highly unlikely there will be a TSW4 this year, certainly not in the sense of it being a new iteration of the sim, as TSW3 was over TSW2.
Maybe but this speculation isn't of DTG's doing, this is purely the forum rumour mill going into overdrive. Rumour and assumptions often become facts.
I Don‘t think that TSW 4 will come this year, but I do think that there will be a larger summer release, maybe something like Rush hour, but now with branch lines?
Thinking back to the Niddertalbahn, it really was an success. it doesn’t have to be a 7km branch line with only 2 stops. But maybe something like a single track diesel line with passenger service could be cool
Rush Hour release didn't go smooth. DTG couldn't finish 3 routes before the deadline and had to postpone Rush Hour releases. I doubt they'll make the same mistake again. If they'll release a new 'base bundle' of routes, it'll likely include some of the existing routes.
Well, it's likely DTG comes up with some sort of summer release, as they've done in the past. They could call it TSW4, or find a different name. And really, if they call it TSW4 it could realy be anything, from just a new bundle of routes for the base package, to a whole new game.
I wouldn’t want a TSW4. The present game interface is as good as it can be. DTG just need to sort out all the bugs on TSW3 and then consider annual upgrades, like they did when releasing Rush Hour etc. I would love to see a Heritage Railway Pack to include maybe SVR, KWVR and Bluebell with a couple of steam locomotives like an Ivatt and a prairie tank engine. I remember JD and Jamie doing a stream from the East Lancashire and wondering whether this route would be an addition. Doubt it as their visit was sometime ago.
So this is exactly the problem of too little control here on the forum..... things are used as if they were true and one moronic topic after another is opened with all kinds of accusations and sympathy they tell around here. I say don't trust everything you read here. 90% is just not true and stupid speculation
True enough, but nature abhors a vacuum, and when DTG goes quiet for an extended period of time it's only natural that speculation will go wild. Hence my suggestion of an easy way for DTG to tamp that down...
But they shoved 3 US DLCs on the same day and look how that turned out, I don't think they've learned from Rush Hour.
It certainly wouldn't do them any harm to quash the speculation especially now this thread will probably spread and we will soon see Facebook posts wondering what TSW4 to be released in July will look like and with angry reactions of "we don't need a new version and be forced to pay again etc, etc......". They aren't known for letting us know what is happening more than a couple of weeks hence though, I suppose the speculation doesn't necessarily do them any harm, there is no such thing as bad publicity (no one ever actually said).
To be fair, the acela wasn't a bad dlc. The main issue I've read about the up heritage pack is the low quality liveries. The game didn't get broken cuz of the pack. The only poor thing was the us route but at least it's getting some love to it.
The Acela has an issue where it always applies full power whenever you use the cruise control, the same issue that appears on the freaking DB BR 187 (arguably the worst DLC in the entire game). The UP heritage stuff, along with poorly made liveries, is a hige downgrade in regards to headlights (not adapted to TSW3) and wheels.
Well the forum posts on TSW here at DTG are 10 times that of TSC so either TSC players are always playing and TSW players are always talking or I assume the level of interest in TSW is much higher. Developers are now doing content for TSW and it growing... snowballing..... It is so good now I usually wont use TSC. I hate the way of interacting with the cab in TSC. I love everything about TSW3. It feels like you are driving a train. Or when on passenger routes a bus. They aren't really trains. But still enjoy. A train is something that is 120 cars in length. But Japanese trains especially in major cities like Tokyo are amazing and are designed to stop and start all day long. I think we will see some exciting things in the next few months and years with this platform. I love how you can walk on the locomotive and along the train. And now drive the jeep! Maybe one day we will have scenarios where people talk and we can interact. Maybe one day Matt can be seen 'in game' doing training etc. And it's good they balance the output so it's not all freight or all passenger or just one country... Scenario idea 1 Sheep escaped and on the main line. Train control actually talks to you in game. You have to reduce your speed. If you hit the sheep you lose 4000 points in the scenario. Scenario idea 2 Relieve crew-drive the Ute to meet a train, will require roads.. Scenario idea 3 Lost property The guard on your train collects some items left behind and you talk on radio to control. The guard gives them to lost property... Etc
Given the mess that is TSW3, I could see there being a rebranding and a re-imagining of the way the business model works going forward. Maybe you see things like season passes with packages of many routes. Maybe you see new gameplay features like a career mode or whatever. I mean at this point they need something to attempt to draw in new business.
There will only be a TSW4 if it's perceived to be profitable for the owners Focus Entertainment and their shareholders.
Why does everyone seem to think that Focus are making all the decisions on TSW? They literally said when the take over happened, they would not be doing that.
Because they're the owners now lol- doesn't matter what they say publicly, and we have no idea what happens internally. I'll just say that even if the extent of Focus' involvement is setting quarterly sales/profit targets, that would still have a massive impact on what DTG can do.
Focus have a big long stick that reaches over the English Channel to Chatham and pokes DTG employees to get them to make more money. That money is sent through the Channel Tunnel into the French economy and is ultimately spent on baguettes and bad coffee. Prior to that the money stayed in the UK and was spent on teabags and cricket memorabilia. That’s the main difference now, nothing to be alarmed about. Simulateur de Train Quatre will release in due course. But not just yet.
It's pretty likely what they said publically is true. Dovetail have managed to operate for years (over a decade, even) with a monopoly over this industry. They know how to sell copies of games and DLC and they know how to make them (contrary to what people would like to admit). Focus don't need to change anything to make money. It makes itself. And yes, I am aware of the fact that Focus own Dovetail. I don't appreciate the subtle sarcasm but I'll not make a big deal of it. Focus own Dovetail, but focus aren't a developer. They're a publisher. They'll just be overseeing DTG so they don't commit Business Suicide. Some times, the Introduction to a book is all you need to see.
Thanks gentleman ! I had a little-rough morning today, but picturing this statement in my mind made my day
ROFL, just spilled my (very good) coffee all over the keyboard. Now, french cuisine warnings coming from that island would be a little bit overstretching it, non?
DTG HQ now having the stench of garlic and Gaulloises pumped through the air con. Not to mention that lovely sewer aroma you get walking between Gare du Nord and Gare de L’Est in Paris. (Though you can usually sample that one in downtown Swindon!).
Gare du Nord with that lovely smell thanks to the incompetent mayor but I won’t go in depth into politics, that termini is cursed between knives attacks and underground side which is a no go zone at night, I’m surprised nothing has been done for such an international station. Knowing Focus address location I hope DTG is ready with crackheads if they pay a visit there. Going back to the main topic, it’s my opinion but I do really hope in the future they’ll invest more time on optimizing TSW on current gen ( PS5, XBSX/S ) as they’re available normally now and I have the feeling they don’t use the full potential and power delivered by these consoles, not having constant 60 fps is quite a shame by exemple. Lastly I really wish quality will be improved and more feedback back from us will be take in consideration even though I don’t deny developers tends to interact here with us quite often.
I first visited Paris in 1999 and it had a smell about it back then. Last went over a decade later, same smell Some places just have a certain twang about them, probably because of how the water and sewer systems were built London is much the same, especially at certain points in the tide
Yeah I agree but I was more talking about that smell when you relive yourself after a couple of pints because instead of installing decent public restrooms it was decided to put urinals, what about women ? That gives a warm welcome to people arriving at that station, Gare de l’Est isn’t that bad at least it’s some good news as it’ll be used by many tourists when the CDG express will be in service ( airport shuttle like Heathrow Express.
What about “preserved routes” from previous title then ? Converting assets will take ages and if they can’t fix glitches and bugs from ages ago don’t expect any conversion to UE5. Many want UE5 but DTG needs to perfection themselves on this but also it’s not just a question of upgrading to a new engine, but it’s more about quality of assets by exemple. I have the feeling that TSW4 will be on old gen and if it’ll be on UE5 I don’t think these consoles will handle this.
I couldn’t possibly comment. As a Brit I am contractually obliged to think everything about Britain and the British is far superior to all other nations and, for some reason we were never told, especially the French. Facts are not allowed to enter into it, our unwritten constitution says we are just better. If we say anything different we are incarcerated in the Tower of London until we have apologised to the King
I'm happy to have a large ocean separating me from this rekindled cultural, olfactory and culinary conflict between two of our former rivals. I'll start to worry when the Roadmap is all in French and the TSW measurements are all metric, neither of which I'm particularly conversant with. I do take issue with the notion that the English make better coffee though. My last visit to the sceptered isles confirmed my impression that a decent cup of coffee is hard to find there. I would welcome more French routes but not the high speed ones. A more leisurely drive through Normandy or Provence would be better. Oh, and why you would need to apologize to Elvis escapes me, but I guess you have your reasons.
