After todays comprehensive patch, I thought I’d take the plunge and get Midland Mainline. I wish I hadn’t now. I can’t even get through the Class 158 tutorial.

First of all, I had to find it (it was in Training Center, not found through the route menu, as most are).
Then, I got to the instruction to check the front of the train. There was no marker. By sheer hit and miss and good fortune, I managed to get past this objective.
Then, after following the startup procedure, it wouldn’t move, the throttle display remained red. Turns out they forgot to say to turn DRA off. Fortunately I had read that somewhere.
I managed to drive it to where it couples to the other train. I followed the procedure to shut down the cab, walk to the other end and start up the other cab (remembering to turn off DRA which, again, is not mentioned).

Now it won’t budge. The engine revs but resolutely refuses to move. Any ideas anyone?

I didn't do the tutorial, so can't help there, but I am having a blast with it on the actual route.

Was there no driver assist pop-up message when you tried to notch up the throttle with the DRA still turned on? I programmed it to give a notification to turn off the DRA in this situation. If there wasn't a pop-up that's a bug (or you are running with notifications turned off ;))

Regarding the coupling and uncoupling procedure. Unfortunately the tutorial was made before I implemented a lot of the more advanced features.

I'm planning to make a manual for the Class 158 that describes all the features and how to use the train, but in the meantime read this thread for a description of all the new features I implemented: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/class-158-simulation-bits-bobs.69403/

    Coupling Procedure:
    1. Stop the train 2 meters (6 feet) from the other unit.
    2. Apply power notch 1 and release the brakes.
    3. Gain enough momentum to enable the train to coast onto the other unit after you have shut off power (around 1 mph).
    4. When you hear the couplers meet, make a brake application to prevent bouncing (not critical in TSW but it is the real procedure).
    5. Perform a pull away test (reverser in reverse and apply power with brakes fully released).
    6. Move the reverser to "Neutral" and press and hold the blue "Couple" button for 5 seconds. This step is critical since it connects the electrical boxes in the couplers. Without it you will not be able to move.
    7. Select brake controller step one and check that the brake cylinder reading is correct. Perform the test again in the adjacent cab (not critical in TSW but it is the real procedure, note that you will need to close down the cab to do the test in the adjacent cab).
    8. Switch off marker/tail lights in both cabs.
    9. Close down (both) cabs: Brakes in Full Service, reverser in "Off" and master key in the locked position.

    Uncoupling procedure:
    1. Set the frontal and tail lights on both units.
    2. Close the gangway doors.
    3. With the reverser in "Neutral", press and hold the "Uncouple" button for 5 seconds (again critical to actually disconnect both the electrical boxes and uncouple the automatic coupler).
    4. Set back and stop 2 feet from the other unit.
    5. If (4) fails, repeat step (3).
    6. Close down the cab.
