I don't know where else to post this. Since the last Steam update, when I start TSW3 from its hot link, the Steam menus come up not TSW3. I have to close them and click the link again to get the sim to start. Very frustrating.
I mentioned this in the Off Topic forum a few days ago and itis very annoying. Seems to be a feature of the recent big Steam interface changes. Doesn't seem a way to universally stop it, even asked at Overclockers UK forum and no one over there has been able to eliminate it either.
Not sure what you mean by 'hot link'...do you mean from a TSW3 desktop shorctut, from the TSW3 icon in your Steam library or from Steam's recently played jump list ? If I open TSW3 from within the steam library, it launches as normal If I run it from a desktop shortcut or from Steam's jump list....I get a small 'starting game' popup which appears for about 2 seconds, disappears and launches as normal. What is the issue ?
The point is if you don’t have Steam enabled to run at startup, which I don’t as I don’t want SWMBO seeing how much wallet credit is on there, on starting a Steam game the jacket just minimised to the hidden icons section on the taskbar. No longer does that. Suspect they have changed to make the interface more like EA or MS which is in your face.
I always start Steam manually after booting up, then closing it to the tray. Click my taskbar .exe shortcut and everything's fine. Follow solicitr 's advice and don't use Steam generated "hot link" shortcuts (steam://rungameid/1944790) but link to the exe directly: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Train Sim World 3\WindowsNoEditor\TS2Prototype\Binaries\Win64\TS2Prototype-Win64-Shipping.exe Hope that helps.
Just to add to this kerfuffle, I'll note that Steam constantly annoys me by popping up a "new steam client" to download -- the problem is that these new clients and always out of date, so I just shut them down, but why should I have to do that? Also, every time I click the Steam icon on my desktop, yet another (probably phony) version of Steam starts to download. Enough of this harassment, folks!!!
Yes there are new "New Steam client version available for download" messages from time to time, now more often than before because the new reworked Steam interface released recently and they will be fixing bugs before it settles down, but that is normal and expected. If you always turn it down instead of updating, don't be surprised that it's still coming back. Besides, as far as I know, Steam should update in the background and only prompt you for restart. Sometimes it even updates during initial login, without need for restart. If it is bothering you, maybe you should try another hobby.
