How do you get these to work? The manual just says "the water trimming valves may need to be adjusted", which isn't very helpful.
You don't need to at the start - just use "K" and then "I" for one set or "L" and then "O" for the next. Trimming is only required as your boiler pressure drops in which case the manual explains how to do it. There is a subtle ( very subtle ) change in the pitch of the sound when you hit the sweet spot. You can also look outside and see the effect. To be frank its a bit of a black art that needs practise. I think they are a tad too lacking in water delivery compared to most other injectors in TSC but they may be correct as I have never actually driven a steam engine to know what "real" injectors do.
As I said, no it doesn't. It only says "the water trimming valves may need to be adjusted", with no information given on what they should be adjusted to.
Ah I see - I meant that the manual tells you how to trim them i.e. which keys - as I don't have access to the manual at present. You trim them to the point where they hit the sweet spot that maximises water injection by listening to the pitch of the injector. You can also see the effect by looking at the outside of the loco and seeing the water turn to steam. But its hard to get it right and the amount of trim depends on the boiler pressure. I have yet to get it consistently right everytime - but thats becuase of me and not the product.
It would be nice if the manual gave the slightest indication of at least which way to turn the trim valve depending on pressure...
Agreed. Trimming the injectors can get quite frustrating especially as there doesn’t appear to be a tooltip to show the % position or whether they need to be opened or wound back for effectiveness.
I can at least answer this. It's single press for the steam valves (though you can also manually adjust them with the mouse; not sure if this does anything), press and hold for the water valves and the water trim valves.
Even in real life theres no specific way to trim based on pressure, Pretty much just need to keep moving them around until you hit the sweet spot. It can also vary Loco to Loco so there is no fixed perfect spot.
Were you not complaining that there is not specific direction to move the trimmer??, There is none. You just have to move it until it makes the singing sound and water/steam stops spewing out the side.
Except that the code for the water trimmers surely does not set a random position for them to be set at.
My point is that the code for the water trimmers must set the proper value based on something. And this is the sort of thing that should be in the manual...
I agree with you - so why don't you ask BMG? It is a problem with their product that is stopping you enjoying the DLC as you should.
I haven't driven a BMG loco for a while which I have most of and I think that you have to use the F5 HUD to do this. I know when firing you need to be in the F5 HUD mode.
Usual procedure in the real loco (I've fired an 8F, exactly the same procedure I believe) is to set the trimmer for normal pressure and as long as you keep the boiler pressure up, then it should be good for the day. If pressure gets low (or during disposal when filling the boiler) you'll need to trim the water valve back to get it to pick up again, as there will be too much water flowing for the weaker injector to pick up...
