In light of Miceosoft seeming to stop production of 8th gen titles moving forward, how many are still on 8th gen?

I still own a 360 and Xbox one original, though the last I used them properly was on the day SEHS original first released, as that’s the day my series x was delivered.

tried SEHS at midnight on Xbox one and the morning delivery was the SX ;)

I have a few PC games (such as TSW), but my PS4 Slim is my main game machine, as I'm waiting for a PS5 v2 before buying that. Also still have my X360 and PS3 with a few games for each.

Still play regularly on XBox 360, Xbox One S and Xbox Series X. Occasionally on PS5, rarely on PS3/4.

TSW I play on both the Series X and One S depending on where I am.

So just because Microsoft are abandoning the previous generation, doesn’t mean I will. Next time I’m back in the UK, I’m going to get another 360 as mine is developing a fault. Too many good games to abandon it!

I as well own the Xbox One, Xbox 360.

Switch, Wii, Gamecube, N64 consoles as well.

But for TSW the Series X is what I use.

I still keep my PS4 for other applications. It can handle many, even demanding, games. Recently purchased "Plague Tale" with stunningly smooth and superb graphic performance. Ironically published by Focus Entertainment, maybe Asobo can teach DTG a thing or two.
Though, TSW2&3 had to be migrated to PS5, I took it off of PS4 because it was on its knees with TSW.

I've still got all my system (PS2, PS3, PS4, PS5). Obviously, my PS5 is what I'm usually using.

Just because something is obsolete doesn't mean it has to go straight into the recycling bin. We are always victims of our own claims or of manufacturers' marketing campaigns. If something looks better and more beautiful, we have to have it immediately, if only to be able to have a say. But better graphics does not automatically mean better gameplay or entertainment. In the end, the overall package has to be right, which can only be achieved through a lot of optimization and testing.

I still have my PS4 Pro with many good games installed on it and also allow regular updates, although I only play on PS5, especially as far as TSW3 is concerned. You can even use a PS3 today without hesitation, it doesn't get any updates anymore, but it's still suitable as a Bluray player.

I think that the smartphone industry is even crazier than the games industry. Every 2 years a new I-Phone or Galaxy model is released, with which you can produce even more Tik Tok or Instagram filter nonsense. Cell phones originally had the purpose of being able to make calls from anywhere without a telephone booth or landline connection. Therefore, a new console model every 5 years is a little more justifiable, even if certain best-selling games such as GTA or Assassin's Creed are recycled or ported again and again for each console generation.

    Amen to that!
I should´ve kept also my old PS3 for the early Tomb Raider Series, which we enjoyed pretty much in the past. The whole family was playing it together. Good vibes, good memories!

BTW: New PS4 Slim is still being sold at the usual stores, at least where I live. Half the bucks of the PS5, but yeah, still selling ...

Had my ps4 since it came out, and won't buy a ps5. Whats the point? Over hyped and overpriced imo.

Now Requiem has its 60Hz mode, I might need to give it a try.

Actually played through a game on PS3 a couple of days ago. Not going to lie, it was rough coming back to the PS3 after having got used to the 60fps on PS5, but I was amazed that she still works without any hiccup. The controllers though, that’s a different story.

Still going strong on my PS4! Will probably be getting a PS5 before the end of the year though.

It is what it is, all generations come to an end. Gen 8 had a pretty good run though. Was great while it lasted. These consoles are still a pretty good value proposition though, considering how long a generation lasts and the capital spend for buying one pales in comparison to some of these PC upgrades.

Some people will stay on Gen 8. And some people still use flip phones.

I'm still on PS4. I'm not a big gamer but I enjoy battlefield and TSW.

It works just fine. My only regret is that I miss out on some layers but otherwise I've got no issues.

Oh man, that generation was the roughest for framerates.
    Crysis 2 on PS3 regularly hitting 15fps...

The thing which really irked me about that generation of PS hardware was the reliance on a terrible Quincunx antialiasing implementation that made it look like the console was smearing vaseline all over your screen.

Two things putting me off upgrading to PS5. One, the thing is enormous and looks awful, and two, the thought of downloading everything again. Hopefully Sony will release a slim version soon. However, I find I'm not playing tsw anywhere near as much as I used to and can't really get excited about buying a new console at the moment.

Gen8 isn't going anywhere yet - the responses on this poll don't match the reality even closely. For TSW at least, gen9 is edging ahead, but it's closer to an even match still. At least on Playstation anyway, not seen numbers for Xbox.

    Matt.

I'd expect 9th gen uptake to be somewhat higher on XBox, simply due to having the Series S around at the £200-250 price point.

I mainly use my Series S for gaming purposes and my Xbox one and PS4 are sitting there, gathering dust. Although, I still use my Xbox one as a Blu-Ray player occasionally.

I'm 8 gen (ps4 pro) and will be for a long time to come (i cannot afford to upgrade to ps5)

i almost only play tsw3 these days, and as much as i'd love to play on ps5 and access all the layers i miss out on such as with london-brighton, i definitely can't justify upgrading to ps5 just for that reason

so i really hope ps4 is still going to be supported by DTG for train sim world for a long time yet.. or at least until some version of the ECML is released so i can happily play that on ps4 for years to come!

Was on Xbox One when TSW first made it to Xbox, switched over to One X before TSW2 came around. Now, for the past year or 2 I'm on the Series X along with my Switch, but did use my One X for streaming and watching movies on disc. And now giving my One X to someone that could have a use for it.

I do try to keep up with the current gen of consoles, no matter how obsolete the previous gen is gonna be sooner or later. And while I don't have TSW3 already, I will not be surprised if the next upgrade to TSW does leave Gen 8 behind to keep up with improving the base game overall (but I do somehow suspect they will still support Gen 8 no matter what). It's only a matter of time.

So we will be held back because of 8th gen?

I know its been said that 8th gen won't hold the game back, but it kind of seems like it is. I don't really see them taking advantage of the stronger system.

Otherwise there would be more content limitations for 8th gen then we have seen.

Well, I play TSW on PC, but most of my gaming I do on an XBox One; few new games get me excited enough to be worth making the upgrade, especially since up until now most were released in both formats.

I reckon I'll make the jump when GTA 6 comes out.

Nope, DTG has said many times that they develop for current systems and scale down for older ones as necessary. They've also said that they try to keep the downscaling away from the gameplay as much as possible. So if you're not seeing as much difference as you expect to, then they're doing a better job than you're expecting. :)
