What are everyone’s thoughts on the class 700 sounds? Personally I think that they are alright, but the siren like sound shouldn’t be there when moving at high speed, you only hear it when departing or arriving
Never travelled on one or seen one in the flesh so to speak but there seem to be conflicting accounts already in the feedback as to how well they have been implemented. We probably need more than a 60 second clip to go on is my thought at this stage.
My honest thought, tsw has a good community with ambitious and talented modders, and yes im glad i choose the right platform
If they’ve done the best they could with what they have then it is what it is. The bit I’m struggling to understand is why AP provided the AC sounds but not the DC? You can only speculate as to why that is the case but it seems a strange turn of events either way. Have AP raised their prices for providing sounds in the same way they’ve raised them for customers, to the point it makes their use no longer viable at DTG’s price point? Pure speculation obviously, but there has to be a reason.
^ So am I, I mean they got AC sounds perfectly fine so what's stopping them from getting the DC too? There might be reasons behind-the-scenes from either DTG or AP on the matter but I just find that very peculiar that you could get the half of the sounds that are required for Scenario Planner scenarios on AC routes or on HS1 on SEHS. I get that DTG sourced the DC sounds of a 700 but if you have sounds from an external source, why not use the sounds that external source (AP) provides. I find that very strange but I hope we can get answers on tomorrow's preview stream about this
On the AP side, I can only imagine that DC sounds were unavailable for some reason. I don’t see any reason why DTG would prioritise AC sounds (it it was about cost for example) when it’s DC sounds they need for now.
Not sure this is true... they do make a whining noise when travelling I'll have a jaunt up to Hoo junction and get some video...
You may remember when AP made the 350 Enhancement Pack they originally used their 450 sounds (everything being at the wrong pitch) before everyone pointed out that they were wrong. I feel it's probable that someone over there wasn't really paying much attention when acquiring the files, I obviously am just speculating though.
That wasnt about a platform being better or worse than an other, but i like to use mods, so yes i really think when going with tsw its important to think about that too. This franchais can get very expensive, so good luck after spending 1500 Bucks in PS5 dlcs and realise a pc mod can solve the "annoying damn " bug, sound or enhancement when dtg just doesnt seem to bother. Mybe im not up to date, is there a dlc transfer possible for example from xbox to steam? This would be nothing than fair.
Yeah the sounds are not the right ones but we should be lucky that they aren't as bad the default class 385 sounds they where God awful. But let's hope that the 700 sounds are actually good I've been waiting for a long time for this train even though I live up north.
Maybe it's not about prioritizing but more a case of "they run DC around our company, let's save on those and record them ourselves."
I hope DTG have not followed that route but I feel they have done to save time rather than use top-notch sounds courtesy of AP
Now I think the reason why they didn't use AP'S class 700 DC sounds is because AP reused the same sounds in there EP for the 700 from the 450/444 EP sounds who where provided by DriverReg455864. And when AP made the 700 pack the reused DriverReg455864 sounds without his permission as seen in a comment from Yawwie's video what I will add a attachment to the screenshot.
I’m happy with what I heard overall, but I didn’t catch the brake release sound I was hoping for. cf. here, for example: It’s the sort of intermittent hissing just as the unit sets off. Very distinctive in real life. Maybe it was just because they always talked over the departing sounds, but that’d be quite a bummer for me if left out.
It was good of Matt to explain a little more of the intricacies of sound. How they tried to work something out with AP for the dc sounds which unfortunately couldn't be done and how they couldn't physically have a recording trip with a running unit.
As I explained above I think that's why Dovetail couldn't get all the sounds off AP because of the comment as seen on Yawwie's video.
I think those two bits of information fit together pretty well and might possibly hit the nail on the head.
