MP mentioned on the stream that they have whittled the list down some and he has to go through the remaining names to ensure diversity between platforms. Weeks, perhaps. It's not for me, but good luck if that's for you
Fingers crossed. I've always thought I'd be out of (and likely still will be) as a player only without working on the rails but I'd like to think with 2500hrs invested in the game I can spot the odd anomaly and add value. Time will tell
IMHO, most bugs present at release are there because there is no time/budget to fix them, not because the beta testers did not report them.
Quick update on this. We've shortlisted our ~25 new beta players (from about 500 applicants, thank you everyone!). We'll be in contact with an NDA likely next week (some holiday in our Licensing team this week).
Seems to have been mentioned in the Roadmap notes that the new testers have been notified. So "Yer name's not down, yer not coming in." At this point. Part of me is relieved that I don't appear to be among the chosen ones. Already apparent that some of those we know have gone inside recently are posting much less on the forum. I would also regret losing my time in game to testing rather than continuing to use it as I enjoy. Or occasionally taking a break and doing something completely different.
I assume those who are selected for the program won't like to discuss that on the forums. So we'll never know who they are... *Among Us flashbacks*
Indeed. Beta Club is like Fight Club. First rule of Beta Club is we don’t talk about Beta Club! It will be interesting to see what hitherto active faces suddenly vanish from the forum. Me, guess I’m here till the lights go out…
I hear you! Despite having professional railway experience, being owner of multiple hardware platforms and plenty of spare time, it looks like I didn’t make the grade. As you say Vern, perhaps it’s for the best. I applied because thought my input might make a difference, but hey ho.
Yes I worked on the railway for 41 years before taking early retirement in 2018 (shift work starting to take its toll), the majority spent in various Control Offices. But hey ho, part of me is relieved and as noted above I can at least still keep chipping away for my Mark One RMB Buffet Car!! As I said earlier, expecting the call from Matt any day now to go down and do the motion capture for the steward, at which point I become like the eponymous Roman soldier doomed to walk the earth forever. Except I’ll be stood at the buffet counter for eternity serving light refreshments…
There will be more opportunities and you might end up getting picked since dtg still has the applications to be in consideration for future beta testing opportunities
Didn't want to be part of that, so I'll be here causing trouble and holding feet to the fire as long as these o!d bones will allow. I too have noticed absences, which is a shame, but someone has to stick around and balance out the apologists and DTG wannabes. In any case I've never been very good about keeping my mouth shut, so an NDA would be a red flag for me.
Exactly what happened when I did beta testing for Trainz years ago. Anything that wasn’t a red flag for release just got tossed to one side.
Hey folks, Just wanted to extend a thank you to everyone who volunteered. We had over 300 applicants for what was intended as 15-or-so people joining the program (ended up inviting around 25), so we tried to spread the interest groups, locations, and platforms as widely as we could with those who applied. We have everyone's interest logged for any future expansion of the programme, but thanks again for throwing your collective hats into the room.
I once beta tested and moderated an online version of Football Manager. It took over my life and became a chore rather than a pleasure. Net result I've not played any reiteration of FM in over 15 years.
Agree in addition to Trainz I did some testing on another title a few years back. It just became so repetitive, in the end I just let it lapse. In fact building my own routes in Trainz or TSC, I find the testing phase tedious in the extreme. Find a slight aberration, fix it back to the start then a few miles further there's another bush in the middle of the track... Or Trainz where you can't get the interlocking towers to set up properly. Yes I'm actually quite glad my evening hour or two set aside for gaming hasn't ended up beta testing.
