Where is the 2 + 7 HST services they seem to be missing from Great Western Express as they’re not showing in the menu I have noticed that since the update I don’t know if it’s a bug or have they just remove them?
Agree, I have lost that option, and all the other liveries I have saved and can no longer download liveries from creators club! Plus the windscreen wipers no longer clear the screen! So all in all a terrible experience!
The First Great Western livery for it is also gone, but I don't know if it's been removed outright (unlikely as the 166 still has it) or just made incompatible by the update. If we can figure out the Steam depot for GWE before the update we can use the Steam console to roll back to the previous version. I don't mind about losing livery editor functionality for the HST - Creator's Club reskins are rarely very good and the system barely works anyway. Were the services removed entirely, or were they just amalgamated into the 2+8 consist?
I’m sure it was removed due to that I don’t think theirs a way implemented to select a livery and select a alternate consist. It’s currently one or the other.
I know, and now it's broken again. The 166s work fine but the FGW HST doesn't spawn and can't be selected after the update.
The 7car formations were turned into 8car formations to remove the duplicate train selection in the timetable menu. The FGW Blue HST that was never finished from original development and was never supported was also removed now that Livery Designer functionality is enabled on the train.
No, I believe the gen8 console version still has the shorter HST formations due to memory limitation. Gen9 consoles get the PC version.
Damn. I'll try to look for the depot before the update so that we can still play with it. I'm very angry they removed it.
It was never finished during development, never approved by First Group, never officially part of the route, never used in any supplied gameplay, never meant to be included, never supported and only accessible via a hack. Conversely there are now dozens of high quality reskins of the train available for free on Creators Club for all to enjoy, no hacks required.
Pretty sure the 2+7's are still running on the route, they just don't seem to be selectable from the menu anymore, I maybe wrong on that though and miss counted other HST services when I played it last.
Sorry but that's utter rubbish. The FGW liveries were practically complete and only cut because of licensing. The Class 166 livery hasn't been removed. The HST even had different interior models. It's also worth noting that 1. Creator's Club reskins cannot accurately recreate liveries due to the low resolution of liveries, lack of ability to import textures and the limited functions of it. Therefore any recreations will have the incorrect font, incorrect colours, incorrect gradients on the 166 and no dynamic numbering. 2. The interiors of the FGW HST and 166 cannot be put onto the GWR liveries, meaning any recreations of the FGW liveries will be inaccurate. I will take the official DTG liveries over the pitiful excuse for a livery editor any day. My advice for people who like nice things is to make a backup of the TSW2PaddingtonReading.pak file before DTG remove the Class 166 livery as well. I am stunned that DTG are removing this stuff from the game. The release new content with the FGW liveries in Train Simulator, I find it extremely hard to believe FirstGroup would ask them to remove only one instance of the FGW livery in TSW six years after the route first came out. I would ask for DTG to add it back but they won't do it.
God damn. I have not played GWE for quite a while now, wanted to do it again, but of course I noticed the FGW liveries are not working. Did they really just completely delete them? Thanks for making the route basically worthless then, because with just the dark green GWR liveries it is simply unenjoyable to me. I wonder if there is a way to mod them back by the community?
It was done a while back. I complained about it a lot and tried to figure out a way to get them back. It made the route worthless for me as well (now I'm looking for a TSW2 Steam key to play with them again), although a DTG staff member called me a self-entitled moron for wanting them back. There is no legal reason they did it as the FGW Class 166s are still working (in TSW3 at least), just idiotic decision-making.
Yes, there is. The license only includes GWE green; First Group doesn't want, for whatever reason, the FGW blue to be in the game. Doesn't matter if FG's reasons are good or bad, it's their IP. As for why the HST blue disappeared- because they rebuilt the model to be Livery Designer compliant. That surgery apparently did a Buffalo Bill on the FGW skin.
I explained why the legal argument was rubbish. The FGW livery is still present on the 166. If FirstGroup genuinely had an issue with the First Great Western liveries then they'd request all references to their former brand to be removed, including the FGW logos in the HST cab... Which are still there. Plus, it is still possible to buy First Great Western-branded trains in TS and you have been able to for a very long time. It isn't just limited to the European Loco and Asset Pack, as the Class 150 and Riviera Line both have fully branded FGW liveries too and they're relatively recent. The Arriva Trains Wales DMU pack also included a FGW 158, but it was withdrawn at Arriva's request, not First's. It is only incompetency to blame for the FGW HST livery being removed. Never before has a livery designer update meant the removal of content. There is no explainable way adding a new version of the HST meant that there would be no option but to remove the FGW livery - the brilliantly made and fully complete FGW livery.
The FGW Class 166 can be selected and used in TSW3 sure, but from my experience it won't spawn as AI, so the rest of the traffic around you will still be fully GWR green. If that was the reason, then the FGW 166 would have also been completely removed. I can't imagine people at First Group sitting at their office and suddenly thinking "do you guys remember that train simulator thing we did 6 years ago? I sure as hell remember them having hidden FGW skins in the game files! Let's give them a call."
I think it's more likely that making the HST livery designer compatible required some edits to the GWR livery. Since the FGW livery was no longer officially being used they didn't waste the time upgrading it to be compatible, so it's no longer linked up to the Livery Maker Compatible HST. It's the only reason that makes sense with the 166 FGW still being present.
That's a sensible reason to be fair. It's still annoying that it was removed, and I'd rather they kept it in the game as even if it was broken it could be made to work again by the community as they did with the 166, but at least it's a plausible explanation.
The blue liveries were NOT usable, except by using a hack (on PC only, not console). DTG never made it available to players; and as long as it lurked as hidden code, inaccessible except via cracking, there was no real legal issue. FG never demanded a "Hot Coffee" recall of older editions! But then the HST was reworked to be LD-compatible. That process effectively killed off the old 3D model, for which the FGW skin existed, and replaced it with a new model which had no such livery. No, it's not like First Group has bothered with the matter since they suppressed the blue back in 2017- but DTG had no incentive to preserve it, since they cam't legally use it.
That isn't completely true, at least in the case of the HST. The FGW HST could be played on console and on TSW2 there are scenarios available that allow you to. The 'hacking' is more in the case of making it available as a driveable train rather than bruteforcing it to work. Effectively, the HST was there in its entirety but could not be selected. In fact many of the updates made to the GWE HST were made to the FGW as well. The 166 was in a similar state but clearly earlier on in development. The passenger seats don't work (for me at least) and no updates were made to it after its initial version - unmodded, the train uses TSW1's HUD, which interestingly also means the HUD is not game-side like it is in TS, but train-dependent instead.
I know, that what I have been saying as well. Because who I replied to implied that the FGW liveries are gone because of legal reasons, which I find unlikely. I understand that it is likely a side effect of the HST getting Livery Designer functionality. Though I would have assumed that the GWR HST getting redone should have no effect on the FGW variant, as they are entirely separate, with different interiors, slightly different models, etc.
