…Well I put off getting this for so long as the initial reviews were mixed and my preconception it was a flat straight route across the northern German plains. After finally grabbing it as part of the latest Humble Bundle deal, happy to report I was massively wrong. In fact it is rapidly becoming one of my favourite German routes.

Far from being flat, there are a few grades to keep you on your toes. Quite curvy in places with low hills either side of the line. Unlike BBO it provides a fairly extended run at moderately decent speeds. There’s a couple of sudden speed restriction changes which can catch you out if not paying attention particularly southbound. Freight at Hamburg seems to take a slightly different route through the city than the passenger main line. Lots of layers, not sure if the 103 is in there as I still need to rebuy LFR. A night run with a 155 on a freight from Lubeck was incredibly zen.

    A couple of caveats, naturally!
Like BBO the route seems prone to red signal lock ups resuming a save game.
There needs to be a layer for the Puttgarden and through services to Copenhagen, possibly subbing the 612 or 628 for the DSB DMUs now used on these services.
In an ideal world the route itself should have continued on to Puttgarden or at least included Travemunde.

Anyhow it’s official. I’m hooked. Even to the point of a huge dilemma later when I buy the 700 whether I go play with that or continue my adventures to and from Lubeck.

Good to see you’re enjoying it.

Currently, going through the journey mode now however finding the RE8 services quite repetitive. Overall though, it’s a nice route with some decent traffic heading into Hamburg HBF.

The 103 won´t be there. I think she wouldn´t fit into the time period anyway. Maybe as a railtour only.
Still quite a few layers to deal with ...
Too bad the S-Bahn isn´t there, at least as AI.

Hamburg Hbf is very entertaining. Having been there in real life in April apart from the lack of some of the Trains like Metronom and flix in TSW its a decent representation. I also haven't seen much freight through it in TSW but saw a fair bit during my Class 218/101 hunt. Also missing is the S Bahn local stuff.

I have the 363 DLC but it won’t layer on the shunting services, I’m guessing I have to have DCZ for it to work.

Ah I see, but I´m not sure the BR363 is from DCZ. I´d rather think she comes from RSN. The DCZ and DRA 363 share the same timetable (also the G6 from RRO).

    Hi,
as I see it, you need only the RSN BR 363 to begin with. *IF*, by any chance, you have the 363s from DRA and DCZ and the G6 from RRO, they´ll layer in also and assume the original timetable from the RSN 363.

Hello! The shunting services required RSN, the RSN 363 and the 101. Not any of the other DLCs are required.

While you're here then Joe (!), is there anything in there to reflect the Puttgarden/Kobenhavn services or were these left out?

These trains are running via Neumünster and Flensburg for quite a while now, so they would not appear on this route.

Thanks! I last travelled that way in 1999 when the EC trains were actually 3 car DSB DMU's.

I had the route for the longest time but for some reason didn’t get into it until recently. Night runs going into Hamburg are always pretty cool with the wheel all lit up, and the station looks great as well (always a nice amount of traffic).

Believe it or not I like to do a few of the short 24 minute cab car runs into Hamburg. It’s a nice run when you don’t have much time to play, plus you’re driving into the part of the route with the most action anyway- I often get quite a few adverse signals on those services.

Not sure when, but I think in the early 2010s the route via Lübeck and ferry was discontinued, the trains now run via Flensburg (to avoid using the ferry). Still using the rubbernosed danish IC trains, but that should change soon as well :)

Basically now is as Cramnor said. Back when this route was being made they used to. I remember well because I'd be happy when I saw another IC I could include, before realising it's another one we have no stock for. So yeah nothing is there in its place as such.

Ah that's a shame but can't expect the DSB "White Worm" DMU's unless they were on a future Danish route, probably unlikely.

At a pinch the 612's could sub.

I may have considered that if the 612 existed at the time. But I wanna try not using the 612 for services it would not typically run, like those on BRO. The 612 is of course an express train and I don't really want it to become know as an all-stop RB. Same reason I didn't add it to RBs on DCZ, especially considering the 612 already does IRE on there.

I just don't want to take its identity away, if that makes sense.

Well IIRC the through trains to and from Copenhagen were classified as EC (yes, you had to pay a supplement to travel on a DMU!) and only stopped at Bad Oldesloe (I think) between Hamburg and Lubek.
