The section of line between Peterborough and London is as dull to drive as watching paint dry. The only good part of it is when you overtake a slow train when your both at speed, it still brings a smile to my face after years and years. From Peterborough to Doncaster/York would be great or even York to Newcastle, though the 'racetrack' is also incredibly dull in an 80x but that is made up for by the scenery towards Durham and Newcastle.

Licensing wise you can pretty much rule out VTEC and FCC really.

The racetrack is only good in a underpowered loco tbh

It was good when we had the vp185s from EM as the sound they made was bliss. Actually even in the MTUs and class 91 (not dvt) it's fairly decent but not as good as a Deltic or a Peak boming along there. The 80xs are lovely units but ain't half dull on sections of track like this!

I referred to the idea of 'just hoping' delusional. Not the licensing discussion. That was incredibly clear.

    "Hey, let's make ECMLS!"
    > "Sure, how long will that take?"
    "A year."
    > "Sure, let's just dedicate a full development team to it for a year"
    "Glad we agree! Let's go."
    ...
    *10 months later, DTG bankrupt.*

That's it in a nutshell. Exaggerating a bit. They wouldn't go fully bankrupt, obviously- but they'd lose a load of money.

Call me what you want for this but that is just a blatant lack of knowledge of how development in gaming works.
In fact, "delusion" may be more appropriate this time.

The Engine has nothing to do with the length of a route. It's Time + Money.

That’s because the 80xs accelerate like a bullet on electric, compared to a HST (MTU) that won’t hit 125 before thirsk, or a valenta/91 that accelerates a lot slower

Yes the 80xs are certainly fast off the mark. From what I remember the MTUs would have got to line speed by Thirsk and just be cruising along. They were slow but not that slow. Having experience with all of them the VP185s are the best engines out of all of them closely followed by the MTUs.

    MTUs were extremely underpowered

Not really, they did the job and never caused a fuss. When they first replaced the Valentas there was a clear difference with the MTUs seeming to have a bit more pull about them. They did the job and served their purpose so they can't be complainted about too much really.

From an enthusiast's point of view every day of the week, yes!
