I don’t think I heard many gen 8 players complaining of crashes. Not that I’m aware of

Nor me. It’s not the Gen8 players fault (I haven’t seen a single person complaining and demanding a pared back timetable), someone at DTG has made a very bad call here and they need to accept that and sort it out.

Then give the series s a pared back timetable.

The rest of us that bought the product were doing just fine.

Unfortunately, X and S run the same software (that's a Microsoft thing, not a DTG thing).

Totally agree! This should have been only enabled on the older platforms. Haven't had any notable performance problems on PS5! This is absurd and should be taken back in the new generation platforms!!

PC and Xbox X progress down the tubes. Actually I think I’m going to need a break. It feels like your hard drive in two different computers just failed and all your information is gone

I must say it's a very frustrating and quite baffling decision - especially when, if I remember correctly during the Rush Hour days of TSW 2, that it was previously mentioned that Gen 8 consoles wouldn't hold back PC/Gen 9, hence why the likes of London Commuter didn't get the full timetable on older console. :|

Oh boy, I haven't seen this much vituperation since, let me see, oh yes they removed the save game.
If you remember we yelled and screamed that feature back into the game.

    Lesson here? ;)

Well they definitely are holding us back now. I'd bet that's why route lengths are shorter as well.

Anyone from DTG care to step in an explain how you are going to make this right? People like ticking off services in a timetable so why make everyone start again? At the very least make sure that one timetable mirrors the other so that when you have completed a service it ticks off on both lists.

I have literally not seen a single person on these forums say the game has crashed since the 700 was released.

First off I play on Series S. The funny part is that I self-removed LGV in anticipation of the issues with SEHS, not knowing that this was the layer that was getting removed anyway. I also do not own any DLC that would give the HST or 385 layers. So, my "reduced" and "expanded" timetables are exactly the same.

If Microsoft insists that both X and S have the same gameplay then I suppose separate timetables was one way of achieving that. However, why not keep one timetable, and just get rid of AI moves and static stock for everyone? As usual, we have poor communication from DTG. We have never been told what the differences were between the two timetables, not even with the patch notes. Nobody bothered to mention that all current progress was going to be with the reduced timetable. It's actually pretty comical because there is so little apparent difference between the timetables anway, it's like why even bother? There was no other way? And also, why can't a run in one timetable count in the other as well? This is not an ECW situation where a different unit is running some of the services. This is also not to mention the effect that having two separate timetables has on Quick Play, if the point of that is to play a service that you haven't done before, because of course with multiple iterations of the same services the effect of this is diluted. Although, to be sure, Quick Play already gives you services that you have played before, so I guess it's not any more broken that it already was.

I would have liked someone to post a video explaining why this was the best solution, exactly what the differences were going to be, and what everyone's progress was going to look like. Instead it was mostly glossed over and has resulted in yet another unforced error. When we complain about a lack of communication, this is what we are talking about.

We don't want "AI moves and static stock for everyone" removed either, I want more added of both. The game runs 100% fine on my PC, I don't want it being downgraded, and reduced because some of the consoles can't run it. Downgrade it for them, not for everyone.

Why are we getting a worse experience because some consoles can't handle it?

You mean gen 9 as well since it also affects the series s which is why the light timetable was created

I agree with your comment. I play on Xbox Series. X and It runs smoothly with the Full Timetable!.. Also, the Reduce Timetable is unnecessary on Series X Please revert the change back DTG.
Thank You for reading my comment!!!!.....

Yes, that is another point, even if there was a necessity of having Series S and X be the same, which should be noted has not been explicitly stated by anyone at DTG, then why not have a separate timetable just for Xbox?

Personally I feel like DTG didn't do themselves any favors by putting layers such the 385, TGV and even ICE in there anyway. They probably knew in advance that they eventually wanted to add a 700. They should have guessed about poor performance on Series S, especially with the example of LBN. And, some players don't appreciate the more "unrealistic" layers anyway. But add them they did, and here we are.

Remember when DTG promised us PC players the console releases at the time would not hinder or affect the PC versions ? First we discover BML is hindered from adding the Class 700 due to memory issues on the old consoles so due to parity it is applied to all platforms and now this

Pc players can also be on the lower end of the spectrum and barely meet or just meet minimum specs so couldn't they also hinder pcs

Absolutley ok with gen 8 consoles and im not for dropping them, im even ok with tsw on the gameboy or even releasing for magnavox odyssey (1972).

    But:
Dont involve me and my highend pc machine with the performance problems of whatever other platforms.
I made the decision to go with a my platform for a specific reason: to have no annoyance with performance and using all mods of my choice.

DTG stop try to win the race by create the scope of content orienting on the weakest platform.

Enhanced fullscale time tables for the strong systems, diet timetable for gen 8 (they made their choice too).

Rather prefere the multiple timetables for change of rolling stock in the same era than for system capability reasons.

PC by design is an open platform. Any PC game worth its salt will not change the gameplay features to accomodate the lowest common denominator. In TSWs case, we were led to believe the console and PC versions would not affect each other....but we are seeing that is not the case as time went on

If DTG drops Gen 8 for the next game (if it releases next year) it'll be fine as I should be getting a Gen 9 console for Christmas :)

Just jumping in here. We'll review it this morning.

Just to clarify a few things:
    • Players who play on 8th-gen consoles make up a significant proportion of our players, so we want to ensure they are able to play content
    • This patch was intended as a way for them (and Series S players) to be able to use the Class 700, as we saw some issues in testing, whilst the majority of players would be able to use the full timetable without issue
    • Series S and Series X use the same builds on Microsoft's back-end
    • Players losing their existing progress is not an intended byproduct
We'll be reviewing our options today, and report back when we have a plan.

I appreciate players' frustrations, but also want to remind everyone this is a family forum, so please try to avoid using bad language.

Thanks JD, the update is not one of the best on the SEHS side and hopefully you can get the team to implement scores/medals on the Full Timetable as well, which will (hopefully) benefit everyone so nobody has to repeat runs again :)

I think the point to hopefully take away here is that do what you will with Gen8, but the vast majority of PC users and (I’d guess) all Gen9 players are getting a bit fed up with having to use an inferior product as a result.

We know this isn’t just about timetables, and we’ve seen over the last couple of weeks from various sources that Gen8 memory issues are indeed holding route builders back.

What you’ve done here though is to release the flippin’ thing with full timetable and journey modes then after a couple of days patch the game and take something away, intentionally hampering the game for me in the mode I play most. It’s rubbish.

I asked on the roadmap stream that you rethink this decision before release because it was frankly pretty obvious what the consequences of following through with it were going to be. I hate to say it, but told you so.

Off Topic, but I hope this thread reminds them that no future TSW should be made without the option to carry over progress, like we did from TSW2 to 3.

Thing is, I remember as a 10 or so year old child playing games on my Dad’s work PC. I desperately wanted to play some games that the PC just couldn’t handle (particularly Microprose GP) and had to accept that as much as I wanted it, what I had at my disposal simply wasn’t up to the job.

What I didn't do was expect the game maker to trash their games for everyone else to make it playable on my brick in the name of being fair.

Haven't checked if I lost any progress yet, but I gotta admit I was unpleasantly surprised seeing that Journey Mode would use the reduced timetable. Journey Mode should use the busiest timetable available, at least on those platforms that can handle such a timetable.

DTG JD, This doesn’t in anyway change my feelings on the matter, but I’ve just checked and I haven’t lost my progress (on Journey Mode at least). I also had no issue with getting the correct price on Steam. Could it be that there’s an account issue for some people?

There seems to be a way to "sync" the progress between the two timetables. Rivet did that (accidentally?) with their two Arosa timetables. As long as the timetables both have the same internal name and the services are named the same (which should be that way as those two timetables are just duplicates of each other) the progress should always count towards both timetables. So fixing this would just require moving one of the timetables in another folder and renaming it so both have the exact same name.

Rather than this half-baked solution that really helps no-one, what we need is a way to disabling layers.

This is something I suggested after Rush Hour and should have been baked into Add-On Manager.

That way player have choice of how intensive / realisistic the game is and no one is forced into a particular experiance or loses progress.

Personally this doesn't affect me too much as I am not 'grinding the timetable'; but I can totally see where all the frustration is coming from. I am more concerned how this is going to affect all future content if those old gen 8 consoles are holding the rest of the platforms back. Will the timetables in future routes be all they can be or have they been nerfed to accomodate the old consoles ?

Maybe it is time for UE5 / TSW4 so we can progress forwards

Timetable mode isn't the real issue here, as you can have multiple timetables on a route. Journey mode is where the problem is, as apprently DTG decided everyone should be stuck with a reduced traffic Journey mode because some people's consoles can't handle busy traffic.

Not related to the sparse vs. busy timetables on SEHS, BUT to another part of the patch.

Let me try to understand this: You fixed THIS while it wasn´t even an issue, other than a 12 minutes delay in front of a red signal to play that scenario then E2E???

But you didn´t touch the notorious and complaint for ages BR 143 Introduction Bug??? The *real* game breaker!

    Is this for real?

I've been thinking, why not do a London Commuter and remove all the layers on Gen 8 so it should look a little but like this:

    Gen 8:
    Playable:
    Class 37/7 ROG (+ Class 375 SEW)
Class 66 EWS (+ RHTT (if owned))
    Class 375 SEB
    Class 395 SEB
    Class 465 SEW
    Class 700 TL (if owned)

    AI:
700 AI at Belle Isle (if you own the 700 and Gen 8 can handle it)

    Gen 9:
    Playable:
    LMS Jubilee
    Class 33 GRN
    Class 37/7 ROG (+ Class 375 SEW)
    Class 47/4 BLU
Class 66 EWS (+ RHTT (if owned))
    Class 375 SEB
    Class 395 SEB
    Class 465 SEW
    Class 700 TL (if owned)
    TGV Duplex CM 200

    AI:
    Everything there currently

I think that could resolve part of the issue :)

Journey mode using a nerfed timetable is most definitely an issue, I am not overlooking that. My point was more about the fact that the reduced timetable was created after the full timetable to accomodate the old consoles. Future content may release with a reduced timetable for all we know (Now we know these old consoles struggle with full timetables)....or are we going to have a NYT situation where naer-empty timetables are released and patched later ?

This all seems to come down to a lack of forward planning. Surely the performance hit or rather potential performance hit on older consoles should have been tested and anticipated before release. Then rather than nerf the game for everyone sell the Gen 8 version with a strong caveat that performance is not guaranteed.

What with this, plus the state of the sound level, non functioning PIS after loading a saved game, the inability to put one train an hour in each direction in a layer on BML as a token gesture and all the other issues in the main thread it looks like this rushed to the finished line, no doubt to beat whatever the big summer announcement is going to be.

^This. I feel like the update was a bit rushed because of the 700 release and DTG wanting to get a patch in as soon as they could but I feel that they have done it too soon, why not hold off until you put the stop boards in and that way SEHS gets a big update all at once with post-700 improvements in?

honestly as a gen 8 player i see no point in this update it will still lag like hell it wont improve things and it effects gen 9 players and pc players i gotta admit that is abit unfair they should just separate the two versions and just leave gen 9 with the old timetable as the saying goes if i ain't broken dont fix it

I do find it ironic that the layers which had stretched authenticity to the maximum have caused so much problems.

It's been brought up so many times before but a layer toggle switch could have avoided the issue entirely.

I'm normally quite positive but this has really annoyed me. I know that a lot of people on here don't give a fig for the medals or completion, and I'm totally understanding of that. But for me, it's an important part of the game.

I get the attempt to serve gen 8 players and understand that decision will need to be made to accommodate that (while also placating Microsoft and their GamePass requirements for parity across all platforms) - but the implementation and "unforeseen" result of wiping progress on the "proper" timetable for PC users (I don't know about others) is a very serious issue.

I hope you (DTG) will be able to roll out a better solution for affected people quickly, and maintain strong and regular communications on the issue.

Well, you can hardly blame (all?) console users, not even the Gen8 players alone, for an ill-conceived DTG patch which nobody asked for. And it isn´t the first one either.

DTG and their amateurish patch handling is the real root cause here.

If there were still morals in this business, a professional stance would be to declare publicly that Gen8 hardware is on its knees with the TSW3 demands, fix the broken legacy routes that are running still OK on them - there´re quite a few - draw a line there and move on without development for outdated hardware.

Sure, this would several hit the `katchiiiiing - momentum`...
