Maybe but it wasn't new was it? If they are going to charge us a full game price for what amounts to a core update which a lot of gaming devs give their customers for free, then at least give us 3 new routes as they did with TSW2.

I suspect that there is no TSW4! Some have been saying that DTG should make TSW like TSC and have a core that they update and have everything else as DLC. Well if you think about it that's exactly what they have done with TSW3! The ONLY part of the game you HAVE to have is the Training Centre (spelled correctly!) Everything else is DLC. Loco packs are now attached to the Training Centre instead of specific routes i.e you can buy the RHTT, ROG 37 and 700 without having to own SEHS. I get the feeling that from now on we're going to be getting something along the lines of the Rush Hour release (only not so messed up)

The thing is people said this last year... 'oh it cant be TSW3' then came along the announcement, as was leaked and expected. I guess only time will tell if this is a repeat.

    Do you think they will?
If "TSW 4 the pink polka dot with red white and blue stripes" edition is in fact a thing do you think they will tell us just after its been leaked in an announcement?
After months or weeks of planning the date and locking it down. Then planning a host of announcements concluding in the date. Do you think they are going to abandon that and say yes TSW 4 the pink polka dot with red white and blue stripes" edition is coming exactly as it says in the leaked article?. I dont think so. They will carry on regardless until said date of release of news to the community.

The only response to release a the next tsw is for multiple player, guard mode and on board announcements but that does have copyright issues, it will be for at least one of these for a feature. Island Line 2022 did add a new feature in which was sparks which is now standard in the game now. Glossop has added a guard mode as a new feature.
Tsw4 quite possibly of been a move by the company that owns DTG for something, so a French route could be on the way as one of the base routes

Love how this thread is still going, hasn't been locked and no one from DTG has shot down the speculation

How are we going to get multiplayer when we don't have a dispatching/signalling system that can work around things such as trains that decide they have gone to cook Sunday Lunch while leaving the player in the cab. TSW hasn't been built well for multiplayer and would need other features bringing in first.

Multiplayer is the last thing TSW needs.

I agree no need for Multiplayer and we do need another game full of bugs. DTG lets get TSW3 running correctly and well. Happy for yearly add ons like Rush Hour etc, but not a TSW4. So much to do yet to improve TSW3. Get TSW3 right and then drop the 3. TSC and TSW is the way forward imo.

That’s what they have done in the past and will do again in the future.

Can't disagree multiplayer isn't needed the game wasn't built for it. As you say about the bugs, people leaving the game to do other things and not existing the game will get annoying it does happen in other game you get the players that dont move. Tsw4 doesn't need to happen to be honest at the moment future yes now no

hi all I don't think TSW4 will come out as we only just got TSW3 last September I think what you will see is a core update from UE4 to UE5they will probably do a UE4 4.27 update for the older Gen
leaving out the older Gen console and older PC that's PS4 and Xbox one and even older PC on Windows 7/8
you will probably see TSW4 in 2026 on UE5 for PS5 and Xbox s/X and Newer pc leaving out older Gen
I think what will happen is
that PS5 user will haptic feedback
and the rest will get the standard as the New xbox s/x and pc don't have haptic feedback
    better Lighting and better graphics
what I like to in TSW3 is sitting down on the Seat's on the platforms like we have in training centre
I like to Train station announcement and onboard announcement
longer routes I thing DGT should add the thameslink core from Bedford to brighton via London bridge

I wouldn't believe what other people stay

all what Im staying is my own opnion

"Fix TSW3 before releasing TSW4" sounds very much like "Why did they release TSW3 without fixing TSW2"

The evidence is unfortunately quite strong in opposition of this. The most damning IMHO is the removal of 3 from Game Pass and a suspicious lack of routes on the roadmap, with a focus on 'core improvements' (as others have noted this was exactly the events in the leadup to 3's release).

The real question is what will it contain? Guard mode? Multiplayer? A NYC Subway route? More Tube?

Same as TSW2020. Also never properly fixed. However with TSW3, the user interface is better than in TSW2, but just as bug ridden.

I'd agree, evidence that something is going on by the fact it's all gone quiet and the road map is bare. New owners now also and any major new feature will need to be funded somehow. Many games have a yearly edition it's just most don't allow previous content to be rolled forward. The next roadmap probably be either an announcement or a diversion article talking about fixes......

"Not developing further upgrades" is not the same as "stopping support." Microsoft stopped development (i.e new editions) of Vista, 7 and 8 years ago, but only this year announced stopping support (i.e. bugfixes and security updates) for the former two, while 8 is still supported.

I agree. The timespan after TSW3 is too short. In addition, they already said somehow, that they now focus on improvements as far as I remember.

This thread must be a source of great entertainment for DTG, and I imagine there is much chuckling being had behind the scenes as forum folks throw their guesses and tin-foil hat theories in the ring. :D

TSW could be moving to a yearly new game release. It may have moved to a yearly new game release last year but we didn’t know because it was the first one.

    2022 TSW3
    2023 TSW4
    2024 TSW5
    2025 TSW6

    …and so on.

I haven't been around too much here recently but stumbled upon a one-man UE5 project on Youtube recently:

    Was this discussed around here?

If one person was able to create THIS and DTG was upon the first companies to be working with UE5 (whatever that meant) I wonder what the outcome could be...
Most likely it comes down to the possibility of finding a way to convert current TSW3 products to UE5 with the minimum possible effort... which then would explain breaching the usual 2-year product cycle.

Let's hope, I personally fear driving something like the above video sounds too good to be true - but with Cities Skylines 2 and Forza Motorsport upcoming I fear it will be a busy autumn ;)

That does look interesting but a bit abstract - is it for an official industry driver training scheme, a new train sim in development or just a concept knocked together. Obviously the signal logic not addressed as all showing green.

It’s just a small scene by the looks of it. It just happens to be a railway station with trains in it. Who knows how many months of work went into this one small scene.

That silence from DTG and almost empty road map can only mean that TSW 4 is coming. It was the same last year. I dont think we will see UE5 this year as its only one year since DTG started playing with UE5. So maybe TSW 5 will come with UE5. So far TSW 3 is already using some stuff from UE5 so they are mixing engine versions like with 4.16. So i can imagine that they will not use UE5 because of World Composition and they will stick with UE 4 and they will just keep adding features from UE5 to keep it compatible with World Composition. Or they will just add that World Composition support to the UE5 :) Lets just wait what will TSW 4 bring to us. I hope in something big.

If DTG were to treat its customers openly then yes they should now say so now that the the 'cat is out of the bag', not everyone is well off and a couple of months notice would be very welcome I'm sure. But that isn't the point. The point is they HAVE NOT denied it like they usually do when someone asks something about the game which has people reasonably thinking that it is true, don't you?

Going by DTG's track record (pun not intended) they will go ahead like they did with TWS 2 and ignoring all the bugs there including all the bugs with Rush Hour which is still not implemented right. With TSW3 all they did was import all the bugs from TSW2. DTG come across childlike as they can only see the next shiny thing and not getting the bugs sorted so the next shiny thing can run properly. TBH the only way they solve the bugs is to start again but I cannot see that either.

In the youtube comments the creator says there is no physics behind it, so its just an art project. Mind you, if DTG were looking for UE artists, its not a bad resume...

I am not convinced TSW4 is coming this year; going by release history we are more likely to see a Rush Hour-esque release for the summer. The roadmap also went quiet leading up to the Rush Hour release in 2021....but hey, it's fun to speculate

What is rush hour now? Passengers stand at the stations and do not even get on the train. There were also very few of them. I do not understand why they turned off the whole idea with passengers? And umbrellas in the snow...

I don’t know what kind of chip they will shove into part 4. But TSW 3 was a great disappointment.

The new thing will have a feature. As long as it sells then then it's a success in DTGs eyes regardless of bugs. My moneys on some kind of ECML set modern day with the 700 and an Azuma. People will buy it even if it has a permanent nuclear sky, Passengers flying straight up and down at high speed, Lights on the wrong end of trains (reds on front), 66s on RHTTs for the 10th time, A kings Cross so quiet that it could be Christmas day, no saves, stutters, Signals stuck at red and a promise that all will be patched up sometime......

  42. That is way too boring. Maybe the Adelaide to Port Augusta section......

But I think they will do a Sydney or Melbourne commuter route first.

Blacktown to Chatswood would give a massive variety plus you get to go over the Harbour bridge.

Melbourne could have the Frankston line or Pakenham, or Lilydale with branches to Glen Waverly.....

A freight in the country line would be nice, but I am unsure it will sell much.

You would need to find a bunch of us Aussies who want to make one and crowd fund. We could pay for 3d models to be made and then volunteer to build it ourselves or pay a team to do it. If we crowd fund enough we could have our development team.

But no one wants to do it.

It will probably be Puffing Billy…

Still rate the old Coals To Newcastle route from MSTS, very well done and a pleasure to drive, in Open Rails at any rate. But as you say it looks like the bulk of the Australian train sim community have little or no interest in TSW (or TSC) with most tending to gravitate towards Trainz.

You open the doors at start of a journey: everyone out, noone in. Get the fully empty train all the way. That's perfect, no need to fix.

  45. Very good points indeed.

Would need something that would be marketable world wide. Running across the Sydney Harbour Bridge might do the trick.

Coal lines in the Hunter....nice but would it sell?

Puffing Billy, you probably have a list of 50 heritage railways worlwide before they even get to that....

There is a strong demand for steam in Europe and the USA.... so I think Australia won't be on the current to do list.

And then Puffing Billy would be just one train and very little to do.

Might work as an extra to the Dandenong line actually called Belgrave line a branch off Lilydale.

Whatever is - or isn’t - coming soon as the big summer blockbuster release… keep in mind boys and girls that upgrades or new product releases on TSW often equals disappointment/frustration/headaches/broken dreams/broken promises/tears before bedtime

Whatever is (or isn’t) heading our way, I will be keeping hold of my pennies until I have seen the reviews and feedback on here. Don’t get caught up in the hype and don’t be a beta tester, would be my advice
