I would prefer a modern day one. The pacers were very uncomfortable, bouncy and made an already hard commute even worse in my opinion.

I don’t think you’ll have to worry about those side affects in TSW except maybe the bounce :D

I got into TSW the day after the humble bundle ended so my entry was unfortunately more expensive :(

Referring to what dtg said a while back on how they wouldn't consider moving to ue5 unless the major developers moved to it themselves and it became more mainstream overall. So far, there is not a whole lot of ue5 games. Some are made by smaller studios, some big but not for all games.

So they actually have two more months and almost 3 roadmaps before TSW4 launches so this is most likely in heavy development. I suspect if you pre order you will probably get early access as they did for TSW3

I don't think they will do that. Has DTG ever released a 3rd party route as part of the release bundle?
They didn't in TSW, I'm not sure about Train Simulator.

    This.

Core updates or the summer bundle tend to be “in house” projects. May well be some of the work has been outsourced to third parties but it will still be released under the DTG badge. However as I mused a few weeks ago I have a strong feeling we won’t see the JT route until after DTG release whatever they are planning. They’re not going to want any distractions or abstraction of revenue from their big cheese!

All the talk or bigger & better things with TSW4 has me worried! Being an old fart who's not very tech savvy I have a question. Will the minimum PC specs have to change to cope with the TSW4 or do I need to start saving for a better spec'd PC? My PC set up isn't far off the minimum specs already.
    Thanks in advance.

If they drop Gen8 console support, possibly, if not, then I think you should be ok.

They also said they wouldn't go back to NY-Trenton but they have. They change their mind on a whim it seems.

They are going to run out of things to talk about on the August Roadmap broadcast if they don't deal with the elephant in the room that' s for sure.

When I actually use my gpu on my laptop, it puts me at the minimum specs in terms of the gpu and it runs the game alright. If you want better performance and want to play modern games, you will most likely want to upgrade. Of course you will need a good cpu, memory and adequate storage. I personally don't think anything will change for tsw4 since the leaks show all the dlc is porting again which means the engine version is unlikely to change so expect similar performance

Actually they never said they wouldn’t go back to ny-Trenton

they said at the time they were asked that they weren’t working on anything timetable related at that time. Then they did.

Don't know about a whim but the save game, SEHS and NYT " turnarounds " provide some evidence that DTG will respond to widespread complaints on occasion.

Not that I know, but it has a big publisher now and having a Just Trains name included is good advertising.

Although it was fun, ultimately it was a waste of money and a backfire. The product never lived up to the hype and created unrealistic expectations. When they finally took the lid off and showed a game that was 98% the same as the previous coupled with worse performance they were harshly ridiculed and many walked away. I mean, more power to them if they want to double down on something like this, but you'd think they'd be better off spending their money more wisely this year.

My prediction is if we have a roadmap next week they will not mentioned anything about TSW4. All the questions about it will be ignored. We'll probably get a teasers August 21st with an official announcement August 22 with pre-sales going live that day.

    Nope …. Neither

Unlike many here I don’t turn what they did say which is “we don’t have plans to address the time table at this time” and never say never to be “we arent ever going to fix it.

    so I guess I’m a realist

Doubt they would, it complicates things considering the content isn’t actually theirs, so then there is the need to split profit etc, rather than just allowing the third/second party to publish whatever they want and claim they’re owns back.

I guess on the flip side you have evidence that nobody walked away? I look at usage charts that do tell a story, but mock that as you wish.

Usage charts that are for Steam specifically, hardly an accurate way to gauge Tsw's entire player base is it?

Nope, but it is an indicator. Along with many posts in here from long time users who have either reduced or stopped purchases altogether. It does add up to tell a story. I've seen no evidence to the contrary, but again people can believe what they wish.

From what I've seen, many of these long term players end up coming back, plus if you've been paying attention to the forums and various social media sites you'll see that there has been a decent number of new players joining as well.

Me being one of them, just started with the Humble Bundle, and picked up most of the other DLC in the steam sale.

Oh you're not wrong. That Humble Bundle tax writeoff sale did jump the population recently. It's a win win for struggling franchises. Dump everything in a high visibility bargain bin that helps a good cause and people will come even out of sheer curiosity. The hope is that at least a certain percentage will stick around. Time will tell if that's the case, but until recently all I've seen was a downward trend from media engagement and usage stats.

There has been a downturn in engagement because of the states of the recent routes, from Bremen Oldburg all the way down to Midland Mainline, there has been a very negative overall feedback to the state of dlcs , with the few outliers being the Glossop line and Bad Vibel - Stockheim, also a lot of highly requested routes are already available on TSC, meaning that most people would just rather play a game with what they have

There has been sporadic activity on the forums from DTG, notably Matt, but a few things are pretty much getting blanked.

Other than an eventual curt acknowledgement from JD regarding the Class 700 sound isues, there has been no confirmation if this is considered a "hot" item.

The frenzy and rumour mill regarding late summer releases and or TSW4 coming have had zero official response.

Yea and unfortunately we are not going to get anything if they have the roadmap next week. It will be ignored.we probably have to wait for around august 20th when we might get a teaser of something but other than that I don’t see anything happening. Last year was the same and I remember the august roadmap was delay and august 10th was when they had the 2 part roadmap
On another note I was just remembering the launch last year what ever happened to the hot air balloons. Did that even make it to the game?

Any trendline can be manipulated just by choosing the right endpoints. Are sales down from the COVID years? Yes- for the videogame industry as a whole. Lockdowns and forced unemployment are good for home entertainment.

Focus would not have bought a company they thought was failing- and they have seen the numbers, we haven't.

I have it on good authority that numbers have been increasing not decreasing since TSW3 launched, so it does not seem to of impacted the play base much. A reason imo this will be a TSW4 release.

The point is that the number of concurrent users on TSW3 on steam has never got remotely close to the maximum number of concurrent users that TSW2 had on launch. There is for sure a whole set of people who never upgraded to TSW3, or at least the launch wasn't as popular by far. This means those same people cannot have bought any of the DLC issued in the last 12 months. Potentially they stopped playing TSW2 well before TSW3 ever came out. comp.png

Now maybe console patterns are different to steam PC and it evens out over all platforms, maybe steam users switched to epic, but assuming it is a like-for-like comparison of Steam PC TSW2 vs Steam PC TSW3 (and people generally go from console->pc rather than pc->console if they ever switch) then something is up.

Add in TSW2020, and the pattern is even starker:
    comp1.png

The first circle is the release of GWE, 2nd is SEHS, third is either Mainz Koblenz or Niddertalbahn. There is a clear upward trend in the life of TSW2020 and this continues into TSW2. TSW3 - hard to see the growth really.

It would be interesting to see the player numbers for Xbox, Playstation and epic. Shame that there doesn't seem to be a way to do so

Tsw 3 does look great indeed, would not go back to tsw2.

But to me the "new" features dont justify an entire new part of the franchais. Its more like a tsw 2.5. On top the massive drop in quality where 5 dlcs release in one month. Yes they are working on updates, but for me going lazy with timetables was the final shot in the wrong direction.

I guess they have to come up with a true improvement to get people back on board. The only and really ONLY improvement that matters, for also keeping players instead of short high peaks is the massive feature rich scenario planner 2.0.

I do enjoy the many dlcs, also the old ones. But its seriously time for bringing freedome to players.

Immagine the acceleration of this game with a scenario planner and timetable editor in the hands of a community.

The low amount of paths currently in scpl is just ridiculous. If they really want to improve tsw, they have to change their pattern.

A creative community is also a boost for a game.

Of course therein lies some of the problem. I have so many TSW routes installed sometimes it’s hard to choose what to do, or you end up taking a few runs on your shiny new route then lo and behold the next one is out. I have routes like GWE and WSR where I haven’t even done 50% of the Journey mode let alone all the timetable runs and scenarios. So in some ways I do believe the time has come for DTG to focus on longer more in depth route experiences than the fire and forget relatively short one train, one hit routes we have seen of late being churned out at regular intervals.

I think in today's disposable world another quick one handled TOC advert route is more profitable than giving us Preston Carlisle throughout in the early 70s.....the passion for building routes enthusiasts would have liked (and still would) has been binned for stuff you can see right now and will shift telephone numbers on consoles. The JT route could be the exception to this as is the Steam stuff.

The state of TSW as interpreted by players based on Steam charts. A good example of incomplete data, bad data analysis, confirmation bias and ooh look a pie chart…

I think there’s major profitability for older routes especially when they’re well done like NTP and TVL and any WCML content atm since we have so little in game.

We were told it doesn't sell and have had years of nothing despite 08s, 20s, 31s, 33s, 37s, 40s, 45s, 47, 52s and 101 DMU plus rolling stock existing. With that back catalogue existing sales must have been so bad it was worth almost writing the lot off or someone up top detests the BR diesel era. Either way Cathcart set in the 80s could have had a Glasgow Central far busier for example. Or Cross City could have been a very busy diesel version.

Yeah, there's too much to consider for us players to figure out how TSW is really doing. I've also seen no mention of epic, which has become a sizable distribution channel aswell. I guess we won't know, and honestly I wouldn't know what to do with the information if I did have it. Feel vindicted because a company that once sold me unsatisfactory DLC isn't growing anymore? Feel happy because I own DLC from a growing company with many more DLCs coming?

Honestly what exactly is the point of this discussion?
